@@darealbarbie1932 it works just fine. I can’t find a way to have favorite contacts on the phone menu, but since I always have the phone plug in, I just use the phone menu from car play. I do regret one thing: i was not able to use the same microphone from my car. I think the microphone that came with the unit is of less quality. One more thing: If you are listening to the radio and your passenger wants to check IG or other app the unit switches to audio input from your phone. I find it a little annoying.
christopher graziano I have the ax100 also. Just recently installed. That thing boots up with in a couple seconds. And when I get out of the car for a little bit to grab something and get back in, it boots immediately. Firmware 1.02.06
I have the a question. I just got mine installed today, but I don’t see steering wheel in my settings? I can use the volume and radio seek, but my phone and voice button doesn’t work. The shop told me that sometimes they can’t get all the buttons to work? I’m wondering if they didn’t put a Harness in? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Does the hands-free calling feature work even if you're playing audio from the tuner? i.e. do you have to engage BT audio in order for hands-free calling to work? or does the head unit software interrupt tuner / other audio when a call comes in? Seamless hands-free calling is a priority feature.
If you have car play it will just stop the media and have the voice call ring through. Same for Bluetooth but it must be connected to the phone which after pairing, it will do it automatically.
I have andriod phone. When I plug it in the USB 1. It's telling me to apply parking brake. I did and no andriod interface pop up on the Sony ax5000. What am I doing wrong?
You said the unit is wobbly, but I have the same radio and mine doesn't do that, so the only assumption I can make is that you bought the wrong installation kit. It is a really great radio though and you are correct that it does look so original in my 2005 Avalanche.
J Chacon the mounting frames for a Chevy Avalanche and Jeep wrangler are different. But i might have messed up with the installation. Its hasent caused any issues after a year of usage so im not worrying much about it.

I have steering wheel controls and I bought the installation kit that enables steering wheel controls and I wanted onstar capabilities, so I made sure the kit said that 2. Bought the kit on amazon, so look it up for your vehicle with these parameters
The only hard part is the wiring that needs to be done. If you mess up with the wires there's a big possibility that you can damage the device or even your car. I would really recommend to have it done by a professional but thediagrams that are included in the kits are fairly easy to read if that helps. Also I would recommend to solder your cables together rather then splice them or just knot them together sinceit isnt easy to pull the head unit out when ever you like.
thanks for the review. can you connect the usb output from the the back of the stereo to the native usb outputs in your truck? it looks like you have a free-floating usb cable coming out your dash. i'd like to use my truck's existing usb outputs, but it looks like you're not able to. thanks in advance.
Can you discuss the iPod functionality? IPod touch doesn't have carplay, so I'm curious if the USB port will read the iPod complete with playlists etc. Sony is normally pretty good about functionality in this respect their quick browzer feature is amazing if you can find unit attached with it. Last question how many devices can you have Bluetoothed at one time?
djberto690 you can connect your ipod into the usb portion of the two usb connections and it should work fine but dont take my word for it im just guessing it would work since there is a dedicated usb device connection next to the car play usb connection. You can only have 1 bluetooth device connected at a time.
Hey, i have installed this in my Honda Jazz. its great. But i have issues with reverse cam. Hard to see the display during bright sunny day. The Screen goes too dark . How is it performing for you? Thanks
renzart not having any issues at the moment. It might be due to the fact that your camera might not be a good quality on. Im not having any brightness issues.
you can set up your buttons to a custom lay out with voice recognition. You can play video from a USB device. If you want to play it while you drive, you have to ground the parking break wire to have it working.

SCHWHEELZ the dimmer is adjustable with the auto dimmer when you turn your headlights on. The dimmer control in the car does not affect the dimmer on the radio but the radio has a built in dimmer that you can adjust in the menu. You can turn off the display while driving at night but the ambient control lights stay on and do not adjust with the dimmer. It is really small buttons so you dont really see it they are not that bright. I hope this answered your question!
I have read a few reviews on this unit saying that since the screen is bigger it is pixelated? What are your thoughts on if the screen appears pixelated or not? Or pixelated when using Apple CarPlay?
The video was shot with a 4k camera but the video quality is 1080p in the video. As you can tell the display is very clear and no pixelation is noticeable. The only real noticeable factor of the screen is it is not fully black so it does absorb some light while using which is hardly noticeable. If you compare it with OEM car play units that come with the newer jeeps out of the factory, it is not as bright but the text and display pixelation are unnoticeable.

prince owiredu The head unit does charge the phone and allow carplay simultaneously. Also if you will be using your stock speakers, there will not be a need for an amp since it provides a good amount of power. But if you want more you can always attach an amplifier that meets your needs.
I'm not totally sure. There weren't any wallpapers included with the unit, but I believe you can with external USB flash disc. I will keep you updated after I try it out.
I've seen people say that they can't customize the wallpaper, but I've asked Crutchfield, and ABT electronics and they both said you can customize the wallpaper when you plug in your USB/Thumb drive. Is that the case? Have you tried customizing the wallpaper? I am getting this unit installed tomorrow!
If you go to Crutchfield and add your vehicle, when you go to the listing for this unit you will see a link that says "See the installation gear you'll need" and it will show you the different packages they offer for it. For my vehicle it lists 5 different options.
Can you change the theme of the UI for the apple carplay? I see the background for this is mostly black. Is it possible to change it to white or anything else?
The theme can be changed for both the UI on the sony menu as well as on Apple Car Play UI. With the update of ios 14 coming up, they have given the option to change the background of the UI.
Did you loose out on any of the Jeeps functionality. I'm looking at crutchfield.com and even with their harness it says you loose UCONNECT functions and can't reuse the factory USB.
Im sorry to say that I would not have any detail on UConnect since my jeep did not include that function. I specifically got the jeep without the uconnect or nav just so I can add the apple car play onto it. It was alot cheaper this way and didnt really lose any functionality either. Wish I could have been more of a help regarding the UConnect. Otherwise, all the steering controls, volume and what not work fine and can be customized for your preference.
I just saw this, I have a 2017 Wrangler and you're right. The speakers SUCK. I might buy it out (it's a lease) soon and I really am thinking of getting this! So you're saying you didn't have to switch the speakers at all? Just installing this unit improved your sound quality?
It made them noticeably louder so it does feel better when you listen to music but after about 6 months, the right speaker blew and i swapped them out with jbl speakers. Now it sounds much better especially with a sub under the front seats.
Do you have links for everything else you needed to buy to fit this into the JK Wrangler? Does it need a bracket and what is the wiring required? Did you have the stock subwoofer and does it work with it?
that is the link to my purchase. No problems with it 6 months in. I dont have the sub but I have heard the wiring harness will provide power to the amp for the sub. You just wire it a bit differently.
I think I will be adding this to my 2015 Rubicon. I have the Alpine speakers with sub. Need a little more research, but it looks like it is easy to clean. Subtle install. I like. Wonder if I can get the Alpine bracket.
How to fix the flexing of the unit: Get a flat metal bar that’s about an inch or 2 wide and about an inch to an inch and a half longer then the unit on both sides. Bend the excess and make mounting holes in the bent parts. Now mount the metal bar to your side brackets; making sure the bar is resting against the head unit. Now the bottom of the head unit is supported and shouldn’t move when using the buttons. I want to get this unit for my 2012 Jeep Wrangler and get rid of that poor excuse of a unit (130N) that came with the Jeep.
Fredricke Engels you can add up to 3 cameras. One revers and the other two for where ever you want it. Offline navigation maps require a navigation device sony sells which works with tom tom. You would have to look into that since i dont know the details but am aware that there is a navigation feature that you can add on to the device.
Great video. After seeing this I purchased this head unit for my 2011 Wrangler however installation is not going well. I am having a problem with the plastic installation brackets that go on both sides of the unit. In your video, it fits perfect with a nice thin clean line between the unit and the plastic bracket which makes it look like it came from the factory. I have a rather larger quarter inch gap which clearly makes it look after market. Do you remember where you got the installation kit from? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Steven Roth i had the kit purchased from a seller on ebay. I dont remember exactly who it was but it was not a fancy store or anything. What i realized while doing the installation is if the screws are on too tight, the plastic bends a little so you have to adjust it. Also you have to adjust how depth of it and dont screw back the top bracket screw under the plastic mat on the dash as there is no slot besides the unit itself for the screw to hold on to and you can damage your unit.
I put one in a 2001 Wrangler. It is not an easy install. The brackets from the Metro kit don't line up with the radio. You must cut the entire bottom out of the radio bay in the dash to fit the brackets. Including cutting off the standard Chrysler bottom mounting tab, so you're not going back to a standard mount radio. You must also cut the factory alignment tabs off of the climate control panel to mount the unit. Hopefully a better mounting kit will come out, but once you cut that tab off no going back.
I have a mustang as well. I see you wrote this two years ago but did you follow through? I'm looking to upgrade the base model infotainment in my stang for this.
I like the unit but I passed on it for one reason. I have a 5channel amp running my speakers. The preamp outputs on this unit are only 2A. Also, it only has one sub preamp so I would need to put a Y splitter dropping it from 2A to 1A. I’d probably need a line driver. If not for that, I would definitely buy this unit.😩
Ben Cook I actually ended up getting this unit and the sound is not diminished in comparison to my other pioneer unit that was 4V preout. The sound is actually better in some respects. the Sony has minimal features. It’s a basic unit with a really nice screen. For about the same money, the Kenwood ddx9704s has a capacitive screen and tons more features.
It shows the album art when it is connected to Carplay. I think I've also seen artwork with Bluetooth as well. I might be mistaken. I havent tried it with a USB flash drive yet.

Holy!!! The only thing I took from this review is how nice his dash kit looked. What brand is that kit? Metra or Scosche kits don't look that good in any of those Chrysler applications. I actually installed one of those source units "today" and it is so utterly basic it reminded me of a Boss Audio source. The only thing this source has going for it is the Apple Car Play and Android Auto features. If all you need is Apple Car Play or Android Auto to match up with a DSP it may be worth your while, but there are WAAAAAY better source units available for the money you would pay for this piece of crap!

Yes you do need a dash kit. Really cheep to get or you can just get the whole thing in the link above.

I did, very simple to do. Green wire behind any screw in the dash.

Im not really sure, since I have only used it with iOS apple car play. It does work but the video does not play on the screen for iPhones.

It comes with it. I removed it to be able to stick it somewhere on my roll bar since it was a tight fit.

the 100 has a resistive touch display so it has a laggier display compared to the 5000 that has a capasitive touch display
How to fix the flexing of the unit: Get a flat metal bar that’s about an inch or 2 wide and about an inch to an inch and a half longer then the unit on both sides. Bend the excess and make mounting holes in the bent parts. Now mount the metal bar to your side brackets; making sure the bar is resting against the head unit. Now the bottom of the head unit is supported and shouldn’t move when using the buttons. I want to get this unit for my 2012 Jeep Wrangler and get rid of that poor excuse of a unit (130N) that came with the Jeep.
Hi, can we connect multiple cameras? Any possibility of loading offline navigation maps?
Fredricke Engels you can add up to 3 cameras. One revers and the other two for where ever you want it. Offline navigation maps require a navigation device sony sells which works with tom tom. You would have to look into that since i dont know the details but am aware that there is a navigation feature that you can add on to the device.

Great video. After seeing this I purchased this head unit for my 2011 Wrangler however installation is not going well. I am having a problem with the plastic installation brackets that go on both sides of the unit. In your video, it fits perfect with a nice thin clean line between the unit and the plastic bracket which makes it look like it came from the factory. I have a rather larger quarter inch gap which clearly makes it look after market. Do you remember where you got the installation kit from? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Steven Roth i had the kit purchased from a seller on ebay. I dont remember exactly who it was but it was not a fancy store or anything. What i realized while doing the installation is if the screws are on too tight, the plastic bends a little so you have to adjust it. Also you have to adjust how depth of it and dont screw back the top bracket screw under the plastic mat on the dash as there is no slot besides the unit itself for the screw to hold on to and you can damage your unit.
I put one in a 2001 Wrangler. It is not an easy install. The brackets from the Metro kit don't line up with the radio. You must cut the entire bottom out of the radio bay in the dash to fit the brackets. Including cutting off the standard Chrysler bottom mounting tab, so you're not going back to a standard mount radio. You must also cut the factory alignment tabs off of the climate control panel to mount the unit. Hopefully a better mounting kit will come out, but once you cut that tab off no going back.

selim demir its not internal, you connect it from a mic connection on the back, however there is a microphone included in the box.

I like the unit but I passed on it for one reason. I have a 5channel amp running my speakers. The preamp outputs on this unit are only 2A. Also, it only has one sub preamp so I would need to put a Y splitter dropping it from 2A to 1A. I’d probably need a line driver. If not for that, I would definitely buy this unit.😩

Ben Cook I actually ended up getting this unit and the sound is not diminished in comparison to my other pioneer unit that was 4V preout. The sound is actually better in some respects. the Sony has minimal features. It’s a basic unit with a really nice screen. For about the same money, the Kenwood ddx9704s has a capacitive screen and tons more features.
I have the ddx9703 in one of my cars that I like. Except if the sun is out, it's hard to see the screen on it
How about you take it all apart and do a step by step install video on the whole install including the steering wheel retaining kit.

It shows the album art when it is connected to Carplay. I think I've also seen artwork with Bluetooth as well. I might be mistaken. I havent tried it with a USB flash drive yet.

Holy!!! The only thing I took from this review is how nice his dash kit looked. What brand is that kit? Metra or Scosche kits don't look that good in any of those Chrysler applications. I actually installed one of those source units "today" and it is so utterly basic it reminded me of a Boss Audio source. The only thing this source has going for it is the Apple Car Play and Android Auto features. If all you need is Apple Car Play or Android Auto to match up with a DSP it may be worth your while, but there are WAAAAAY better source units available for the money you would pay for this piece of crap!
