    The thing is Eren was only able to save the Eldians from castration by convincing the Founder to disobey royal blood. That’s huge. The partial Rumbling plan was contingent on the idea that they could maintain control of the Founder’s power after Eren dies from the 13-year curse. But Eren’s interaction with Ymir seems to have completely changed the basis of how the Founder operates. As of now, I would say that there is no guarantee that future holders would even be able to control the Founding Titan after this, so a so-called partial Rumbling may not be feasible anymore.

    All nations are culpable in Marley's invasion of Paradis because none of them fought to stop it. Considering that they risked the Rumbling not only by calling Fritz's bluff, but also by fighting in titan form near the walls, the expedition was deadly reckless, showing a callous disregard for the lives of every person on the planet.
    The Rumbling could have been easily prevented if those other nations besides Marley and Hizuru had sent diplomatic envoys to the island once the titans there had disappeared. Their failure to do so, alongside their thunderous applause of Tyber's declaration of war, implied very strongly that there was an active state of war, and the territorial integrity of Paradis was in extreme danger. Further, it is likely that Eren only had one shot at it. I've not read the manga so I can't say that for sure. The setup is almost exactly like the trigger for MAD in the real world. Imagine NATO declaring war on Russia, invading their territory, destroying a major city, conducting military operations in their capital, and expecting Russia not to use nukes. The difference being that, of course, NATO also has nukes, while Tybur's global alliance doesn't have their own force of titans. So they are extraordinarily stupid in addition to being insanely hateful.
    Gotta say, the set up was such that any reasonable person would trigger a full or nearly full scale rumbling (I would spare Hizuru myself IF I knew that I could do it again if I had to. If I couldn't, I'd have to stomp them too). Western philosophy has degraded to the point that most people are incapable of seeing that such a move was completely necessary. The scary part about that is that our general inability to see that means we risk provoking such moves ourselves. If we keep going the way we are going, nukes are going to fly. Orthodox realpolitik is famous, and they won't hesitate when the time comes. Western refusal to see it, while signalling virtue with war policy, will bring it about.

    I only feel bad for the innocent people, especially the eldian.

    • @Peter_Siri
      @Peter_Siri 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      that then begs two questions; are the people that form or live under any security alignment in response to a ready-to-deploy WMD inherently dangerous to the people outside of them? Are currently oppressed minorities dangerous? The governments outside of Marley began to form an alliance because Willy Tybur revealed the truth at the worst possible moment - knowing that Eren himself has the capacity to start The Rumbling is bound to rally every country because their governments couldn't accept such disproportionate power that could be used against them.
      I know how the people outside of Marley and Paradis would react if Eren only attacks the Marleyan state - they, too, wouldn't give the Eldians the benefit of doubt, given the possibility that Eren's founding titan can be inherited by somebody who only recognizes power. The real-world side effect of having an equivalent to nuclear weapons is that you become a high value target.
      Titan-shifting really is a curse, and it is not fair for the Eldians to encounter social barriers which strips away their dignity. Nevertheless, even the gypsy encampments are full of those voiceless refugees who were denied protection by the state. They, too, will suffer either in the hands of Marley or the wrath of Ymir. While all the solutions are shitty, I wouldn't quickly condone the actual start of The Rumbling, a weapon used primarily as a deterrent. That could only re-affirm the opposition's perception of Paradis and the security dilemma at large.
      I'm increasingly aligned with Malcolm X myself, yet I'd rather live with a world where every stranger gets a chance to be a real piece of shit, and so far it's grown on me.

    • @grugnotice7746
      @grugnotice7746 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@Peter_Siri Honestly I would like to see some material explaining why nobody except Hizuru sent diplomats to Paradis. It would be like not having diplomatic relations with the US after it became a nuclear power. At the time there was no guarantee that Paradis would be hostile, so it would make sense to minimize that risk, even if it means setting aside pride and hatred. But only one nation would do that.

    • @Peter_Siri
      @Peter_Siri 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@grugnotice7746 I'd wish there could be some more material explaining that as well. Hizuru did seem to leverage her relations with both Marley and Paradis because she was in an ideal position to do so, being a supplier of advanced anti-Titan weaponry. I wonder how Marley hasn't probed them yet while it wages war with a more tech-savvy alliance what resembles the Near East. My best guess was that because after the founding Titan was used to wipe the memories of people in the past about King Fritz' renunciation of war, only the Marleyans and Hizuru's country would know about having titan-shifters without remembering the context of the founder. That is partly why the Marleyans tend to have a xenophobic outlook on the world even after having control over much of the world's resources they still fear the possibility of any foreigner is a Titan shifter. Is it safe to say that the militaries opposing Marley would not give a damn how it handled Paradis until Willy made a public disclosure?
      In real-life, states tend to care primarily about the bottomline - if any country vital to its interests is shifting course or being meddled by a neighboring country, it's developments couldn't be ignored. But the human costs of these developments are seldom accounted for (think Afghanistan). Much of the West condemned Afghans for not having a leadership like in Ukraine while the Afghans condemn the entire world for how it handled or took advantage of their weakened political system. It also just so happens that most developing countries don't have nukes - perhaps we would care more if they did. Much of the world is desensitized to what happens to the people of Paradis and have other priorities. Hence, apathy is bliss until they realize that Eren has inherited the founding Titan.

  • @IshkenJD
    @IshkenJD 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    I always laugh when people try to defend Eren's actions as "The only solution" to the Eldia/Marley conflict.
    If Eren ultimately wanted to save the fate of the entire island, he would have partially followed Zeke’s plan, activated a small-scale Rumbling to ward off or destroy the Global military alliance. Then build up the island technologically while strengthening their international relations by trade through the island’s resources such as Ice-Burst stone and oil, making the island the sole supplier and creating interdependence. True, it would have forced them to pass the titans down a couple of generations, but would have saved the island and the Eldians in the long run.
    With the possession of the Colossal titan, Paradis could have studied it further and possibly be the first to manufacture nuclear weapons, securing their safety through Mutually Assured Destruction, as the Rumbling would only be effective until nukes.
    Eren however, didn’t care for the island. He cared for his friends and wanted them to live a long and happy life, while also wanting to fulfil his childhood dream of exploring a vast and empty world, which would only be possible if the entire world was wiped clean through the Rumbling. This killed two birds with one stone. It was selfish, and the Rumbling legitimised every singly fear the world held of island inhabitants, ultimately sealing Paradis’ fate.

    You know eren was trying to find an excuse on why he shouldn't do the rumbling. He travelled the world and met many people. The weak didnt care about the eldian devils. The strong wished to take control and destroy them. The suppressed brainwashed to believe their own people are monsters. It is all about war. Not everyone is evil but if the majority believe the eldians are evil even those that think some eldians are good people won't admit it. Because we've seen how some reactions when they learn their husband was an eldian (she killed herself and her child). The small scale rumbling may have stopped them for 50 years but eren doesn't have that time. He would only live for a few more years due to the 13 year curse. If he dies who's going to take his place who would dare to threaten and use his power to protect those he cares about. Its not the best option but the only outcome he could see occurring to protect those he cares about

    • @miguelyanezlorenzo5037
      @miguelyanezlorenzo5037 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure, but what Eren is doing would be like a country having war declared at them by several others because they are the only ones with the technology to produce and use nukes, making all others understandably scared of them, and then deciding that the best course of action is to nuke the rest of the world.
      War and opression are always wrong, but genociding the rest of the world to solve it will never be a good solution. If you look at it in sheer numbers, Eren is slaughering an ammount of inocent people several hundred times larger than his own country, even if we only count the children who are not old enough to understand hate as "innocent". Even if there weren't that many, Paradis had allies in countries like Hizuru and may have been able to acquire more negotiating with their natural resources as leverage. We can also see how even brainwashed Marley loyalists like Gabi can have their minds changed simply by getting to know them.
      The Rumbling is tragic because we see many examples of how it could have been prevented but wasn't because those making the coices weren't willing to take their chances, just like Marley's operation to retake the Founding Titan. Maybe diplomacy wouldn't have stopped the upcoming war against Paradis, but there was a chance. All they needed was the time a small scale rumbling might have bought them, but Eren wasn't willing to compromise, die and leave the future to other people because he is, and always has been, a deranged and selfish person.

    • @komarunaegi7460
      @komarunaegi7460 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@miguelyanezlorenzo5037 There was no way diplomacy would have stopped the upcoming war against Paradis. Zeke wanted to end his race through his euthanization plan. The small-scale Rumbling they were going to use to buy time and modernize with Hizuru’s help and (hopefully) find more allies (which isn’t likely) would mean going back to the old ways of having children eat their parents and continue the cycle of Titan rule.
      Armin's values of diplomacy are naïve--it took a *lot* of time to only get only a *handful* of the Marleyan volunteers (like Nicolo) to stop being racist, and some of them only faked their friendship and continued to hate the “island devils” after over four years (Yelena had to shoot Griez in Season 4 Part 2 to shut him up, if you remember.) Gabi herself had to go through a lot of traumatic experiences and had to kill innocent people to learn the truth. She was so stubborn she had to murder Sasha, traumatize her family, was lucky that they were so nice that they didn't seek out justified revenge on her, and killed innocent guards in the process. It wasn't just a matter of "getting to know them." It was an arduous process.
      Other times Armin tried resolving issues through words alone didn't work, either. The officer he tried to convince in Season 1 to not execute them because he was terrified of Eren's Titan form refused to listen to a single point Armin made. He was more than ready to execute them anyway, so all Armin did was buy time for Pixis to stop him-and he only stopped because Pixis was his superior. The manga parallels this moment by having Armin attempt to negotiate with a similar terrified, irrational officer after Eren ends the Titan curse. And just like in Season 1, his efforts were futile. War and fear and oppression continued on, and eventually, Paradis was destroyed anyway. All he did was buy time.
      Hizuru was their only ally, but they only allied with Paradis for their own benefit. The show makes this clear multiple times. They're money-grubbers that just want their resources. Most other countries would refuse to have anything to do with Paradis, especially because of Willy Tybur's speech rallying the literal REST of the world, to join him. He even invited Hizuru, and the Azumabito had to play along to avoid getting branded as an enemy... but literally EVERY other nation in every part of the world was moved by his speech, and was more than willing to form the Global Alliance with him out of fear of the Rumbling.
      Eren literally waited until the last second of Willy's speech to make his attack on Liberio, because he didn't want to do it. He wanted to be sure there wasn't a shadow of a doubt that Willy was beyond reason and that his actions would only bring death to Paradis. Does that sound deranged and selfish to you?
      I agree that there are many minorities and innocent people that didn't deserve to die during the Rumbling, or during the Liberio attack, and don't care about the Global Alliance, but when it's every major country declaring war... What else is there to do? It was thanks to Eren's Liberio attack that the Global Alliance's attack was postponed, at the cost of motivating them to want to eliminate them even more. So what other solution is there?
      It's tragic and you obviously can't condone it, but AoT has always been about morally grey issues and making sacrifices, being forced to become monsters for the sake of self-preservation. Armin preaches this all throughout Seasons 1-3, until he loses that mentality by Season 4.
      Eren even angrily asks Hange what other solution she might have when he’s locked up in his cell in Season 4 Part 1. He’s genuinely tried everything he could and doesn’t want to do it, but he’s fed up and has already made up his mind, especially after over four years of basically no real progress-just a few options that no one likes (euthanasia) or ones that go back to the Royal Family’s old ways and run a high risk of leaving them for dead anyway (the 50-year plan to modernize using a small-scale Rumbling to buy more time, even though four years had the characters admitting they barely got anywhere in hindsight.)
      And Hange didn’t even have an answer for Eren. She just deflected the question, called him a pervert, and left, to hide the fact she was pooped and just as clueless on what to do.
      There’s no denying genocide is wrong, and there’s no denying Eren’s plan is selfish. But to say he wasn’t willing to compromise at all, when he did his best hoping the future he saw when he kissed Historia’s hand wouldn’t happen? He only made up his mind deep into the four-year timeskip, when he saw their only chance at support from Marley, an Eldian support group, was only willing to support Eldians from outside Paradis, and wanted to slaughter the “island devils” just like everyone else. Every other nation (barring minorities, much smaller nations, and civilians that aren’t as involved in politics, but many of which were swayed by the news of Willy Tybur’s propaganda anyway) was willing to genocide Eldians and *especially* Paradis regardless, so that’s why Eren was driven into a corner to genocide them back.

    Either all of Paradise is wiped out, or the world. There’s no middle ground. Even if they wiped out the military humanity would rise again to try and wipe out paradise. There is no in between.

      Not at all pointless, just realistic. Like Pyxis said in season 1, conflict will never end until there is only 1 human being remaining. Whether you agree with Eren's choice or not, it's foolish to believe that the conflict would end even if Eren kills everyone outside the walls because eventually Eldians will have inner conflicts on their ideals and the fighting will continue. Marley wiping out Eldia or vice verse does not end human nature which is the true villain of the story and the entire point of it. It may no be satisfying but it is REAL.

      Spoiler…
      I was disappointed when Erens goal was “I’ll make myself the ultimate bad guy so Eldia can save the world” because I feel like it flew in the face of his story.
      Eren was always a character that did the extreme and cared little for consequences. It makes more sense for him to complete the rumbling than to have this Code Geoss situation.
      However, the extended ending. With Eldia engaging in was and being wiped out anyway I think fits the tone. Eren didn’t try to save Eldia. His main concern was his friends to live a long and happy life. Eren accomplished that goal. They most likely died old and in peace. Mikasa surrounded by the family she made.
      However, empires rise and fall. Conflict will never end. Eventually, be it 100 years or 1,000 years, the new Eldia empire would fall. They probably ended up becoming evil themselves, probably into a Nazi or Communist styled dictatorship.
      So thematically I loved it. Character wise not so much. I would have been happier with either Eren completing the rumbling or he was defeated legitimately with no plans to unite the world.

    I would just like to add that Eren could make the rumbling even deadlier if he wanted to. If Karl Fritz could alter the memories of everyone on Paradis (minus Ackermans), there's no reason to assume Eren can't do the same for every Eldian in the world. There is no way Paradis can win a war against literally the entire world specially keeping in mind their technology is at least a century behind while in the last war Titans have started to lose to weapons it's only a matter of time for them to make nukes and leaving survivors with the partial rumbling you mentioned will only drive more fear/motivation for the world to prepare for such an attack, and on top of all that, Eren only has like 2 years at most to live so he won't even be able to fight when the enemy comes for his friends. The reason he becomes distant and edgy is because he feels guilt at what he is planning and doesn’t want his friends to feel the same guilt if they helped him do it.
    The reason he did it was because he personally *wanted* to. His character’s motivation has always been tied up within his dream, to defeat the enemy outside the walls and reclaim the outside world to be free to travel across this new frontier unbound by walls and barriers. His enemy changing from mindless titans to innocent humans gave him pause but it was not enough to change his mind. His entire character arc is that he has none, he forcefully fights against changing himself and his mind.
    Everyone defending Eren’s actions is doing so based on his lies and against his own logic on what would have been right.

There are billions of people outside the walls who can out number them by 1 to 100 and they have better technology than the eldians can ever have, Anti-titan weaponry. Children outside the walls will learn to hate eldians and will become tools of war just like gabi before she changed which is a bad thing but there is no better solution to stop this when the world hates your ass and want you dead without knowing you deeply.
      And I assure you talking out of this is useless (think about it in reality, normally lets say you made a "Horrible" thing to a complete stranger. Will they forgive you? Do I have to answer that?) Its just logic

    It was the King Fritz 80 years ago that created the walls, not the original one. It was always an empty threat to him, but it needed to look real. Problem is that, like you said, people were so afraid of the threat that they acted anyway. And threats are only as valuable as they are actionable. The rumbling is terrible, but all 3 options available in the show are some form of genocide. Even a small scale rumbling is still genocide, and remember what Udo said: Marley actually treats Subjects of Ymir the best out of the countries (except Hizuru as we're shown). And the entire world decided to commit genocide on the Paradisians. It's a situation of kill or be killed taken to its utmost extreme, a tragedy in every sense of the word.

    To think of it, Eren fucked the whole island as well. Flattening everything in the world will definitely have some serious consequences. Apart from billions of people dying, the earth outside the walls would possibly be an unhabitable wasteland because there would be no more trees to supply oxygen. The ice caps in Antarctica would've melted with the heat from the collosals, the refugees from outside the walls will *definitely* make their own revenge/restorationist move from inside the island, and Paradis would become the last empire ruling the dying earth.

      *Spoilers!*
      Everybody gangster till Eren summons Ancient Titans including WarHammer Titan in our world that shoots arrow and spears.
      In AoT Eren lost. Because of his firends and some people on Marley. And they have Titan Shifting Powers. *Well Eren can just take away their powers, but he didn't so giving them a chance to fight. That is what Eren planned to make his friends hero to the world, to stop this hatred at least for a few years.*

    Man, I'm one of those people. I'm Team Rumbling. The Marleyan army is pushing to rally several other nations against Paradis.
    Eren had no choice. The anime/Manga doesn't present another possible alternative that can enable Eren & the people of Paradis to live peacefully, The assholes from Marley ignited their own doom and dragged the world into this. Time loop silliness or not, it all begins with them pushing to kidnap the founding titan and push Eren to this extreme.

    I think Isayama should have had the balls to make a true ending for what the Rumbling would have meant for the PLANET and not just for humanity. Both the Island and the rest of the world should have respectively be partially or completely flattened. Ecosystems, animals, habitats, the whole planet should have been destroyed.
    That’s why I was so scared of Eren and hoped he had another plan because, as it should have been in reality. The world should have died because of his actions. It shouldn’t have kept going like nothing happened and nations kept warring on each other. The rumbling was supposed to be apocalypse incarnate.
    Wasn’t its power and destruction and description by everyone supposed to represent what a nuclear war would cause to the entire world?
    Guess not. It was all about love and romance 😍😍 mwah Eremika 😘🥰so cute kissing the head of a corpse instead of taking the time to develop a relationship when they became adults and had pretty much peace for four years after going through several life and death situations in their lives.
    So beautiful Isayama thank you for opening my eyes on what this story WAS ABOUT THIS WHOLE TIME. So many were blinded by the seriousness of the series that they couldn’t understand the great potential you have in writing romance- that you self criticized on being awful at writing- why did you say you were awful at it? No one’s ever written such a love story, not even the precious gem that is Twilight or the beatiful After movies.
    It was so glorious to read about Mikasa loving and kissing Eren when he was dead and the people with the highest body count left on the planet become ambassadors of peace for the world.
    PURE FUCKING GENIUS
    It didn’t disappoint any of my expectations because I had none the moment I saw reintroduce Annie in the story with a trash, cringe award worthy scene of her eating a fucking pie while Connie laughed after wasting everyone’s time trying to feed a kid to his mother before changing his mind when humanity’s forced lord and Savior (Arlert for plot armor and story convenience) tried to sacrifice himself thinking Connie would stop.
    Man what the hell this story was pure gold- and still is at least until the ocean scene and maybe, if we want to close our eyes and enjoy fights and battles, ‘til the Liberio raid.
    From then on it slowly falls apart for me.
    The man that should realistically be bringing armageddon, Ragnarok or whatever the fuck you want to call it: is actually thinking about living with Mikasa after not showing anything other than familiar love and affection for her in the rest of the story. Along with a deep depression in what he’s decided to do for Paradis, despite clearly not understanding every single consequence of his actions, because he can’t accept dying with the thought that Paradis will have to keep fighting for decades after his death and that he’ll just have to trust others to change everything.
    Wasn’t that the point of his growth? Only trusting himself and making the choice that he can’t regret despite the chance that it could be the wrong one?
    My favorite characters are the Warriors, except for Zeke, because it was obvious they would have never won, but they were badasses that kept fighting despite the ignored greater potential they had in breaking from their chains and fighting for freedom for their kind- and not just goddamn Paradis- instead of against it after all the hate they got.
    But even I can say that I loved Eren for his drive and sorrowful demeanor for all the destruction he was giving. In the end even the potential he was emitting was squandered.
    It’s so sad seriously. An incredible story with THE PERFECT ANIME that brought it to skyrocket into Mars and then plummet back to Earth because of outside pressure.
    What a shame. I guess it’s a good parallel to see that Eren NEVER was in control of anything since the future is supposed to be predetermined I guess, because Isayama clearly wasn’t in control of his own work at the end of his masterpiece.
    I REFUSE THE WISH OF OTHERS TO FORCE ME INTO THINKING THIS WAS HIS PLAN ALL ALONG.
    It’s simply impossible… and that’s all I have to say about that.
    Well, I’m gonna go do something useful with my life now instead of writing this crap. Hopefully youtube doesn’t shadow ban this comment because of the many curses I wrote.
    Peace to anyone reading this ✌🏻 ☮️ goodbye
