    I'm curious on the temporary bullnose? Did you just rip a board with the female end? This would really help me to lnow your technique. Thank you!

    I pulled up our carpet stairs to find red oak treads unfinished and in great shape, but the 37x37 landing is plywood. The last riser/step below the landing is a bit short, about 4 inches, so I was considering gluing and top-nailing some oak lumber or treads with the bullnose removed for a more solid landing. Any thoughts, or stick with the oak flooring idea, assuming I can find some unfinished?

    Great job.. You can't beet a a man at is craft. you make it look so easy , .... Can you please tell me what size trowel notch you use when putting glue down for a engineer hardwood floor over concrete....

      I always use recommendations from the glue manufacturers. You can find the size of trowel on each bucket of glue. Hope it helps.

    All-Pro! Question: I'm replacing carpet on stairs to hardwood. The stairs end at carpet on 2nd floor. should I create a landing at the top or leave the last tread as carpet? I'm not sure if it will look "weird" to look up the completed wooden stairs and see the nose of the last tread is carpeted. Any advice or opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Nice. Instead of wood I would like to install laminate flooring for my landings. When installing for laminate, is a vapor barrier and underlayment required? Also, if I use a construction adhesive am I required to _nail_ down them as well, if I don't make room for any expansion gaps? Thank you.

    • @MrYoucandoityourself
      @MrYoucandoityourself  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      S Thunda You don't need a vapor barrier and underlayment. Just use construction glue and nails. You don't need extension gaps on landing. You should leave them (gaps) only for the laminate you installed in the rooms.

    Thank you for the video. I have two landings covered with carpet in my finished basement. Do you think this kind of install is ok for them?

    • @MrYoucandoityourself
      @MrYoucandoityourself  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, why not?

    • @pni5ewz
      @pni5ewz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrYoucandoityourself from humidity condition stand point. I saw somewhere that hardwood should not be installed below grade (like basement). My landings are not on the concrete but they are in the basement. Still think it is fine?

    I am putting in 3/4 inch hardwood this weekend on my landings. What made you use glue instead of staples? I am putting this down over particle board.. Also is there a reason you should lay the flooring perpendicular to the stair nose? Thanks for any info! Tom

    • @MrYoucandoityourself
      @MrYoucandoityourself  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      racerx1121 1. You MUST use glue on stair landing (PL 400 or construction glue).
      2. Landing floor direction is always parallel to the direction of the main floor.

    • @racerx1121
      @racerx1121 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrYoucandoityourself Why is glue on landings mandatory? Is the direction of the material strictly for aesthetics?

    • @MrYoucandoityourself
      @MrYoucandoityourself  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glue keeps boards (especially particle boards) more stronger. About floor direction - it is a rule but it is up to you and customer's wishes. You can do what ever you want with your floor and choose even diagonal direction.

  • @galbmill

    I see that glue is being used in most video. Do you have to do glue down install for the stair landing? What about 3/4" (31/4") hardwood plank?

    • @MrYoucandoityourself
      @MrYoucandoityourself  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      For 3/4 (31/4) I would use nail down technique and construction glue (close to the walls) :)

    Why can’t put just big piece of wood measure it and cut it to cover entire landing and set it up instead of the multiple parts?

    why not run the floor the other way so it's parallel to the stair nosing trim? wouldn't that look better?

    I hate when people put down flooring or tile and leave the baseboards. They end up being 2 inches tall which looks stupid. Just remove the baseboards and nail it back on top of flooring or tile. And I have removed glued down flooring that was water damaged. It was a royal pain in the rear end. It took 15 minutes to get up each piece of laminate that were 4" by 4 feet. Find another way to install without gluing.
