      As a professional, do you see just laminate flooring on steps often, or do you feel it is too slippery for stairs, as someone else mentioned. I’m not fond of carpet personally, due to the dust it harbors, but for steps, I did laminate flooring and then a 2’ carpet runner down the middle, for safety purposes only, as the person I installed it for was elderly, and I was concerned with her falling. Didn’t turn out too bad honestly, and she was happy I thought of her safety when I convinced her to go with the runner.

    • @19jody72

      @@PickAUserID I can't even remember last time I seen Laminate on stairs and I would never recommend it. It's just to slippery.

      @@19jody72 totally agree. Wasn’t my choice, it was the homeowners, but being the one to install it, I wasn’t going to take the chance liability wise, especially with her age, so I’m glad I was able to talk her into the carpet runner. The only stairs I ever put laminate on to date, and the last for sure. lol.

    Around town where I live there are quite a few stair shops that specialize in making square nosings out of basically any type of flooring to match the rest of your floor. The back of the nosing is left with the original locking edge so all you do is cut a plank to complete the depth of your tread and boom! your tread is perfectly flush, perfectly color matched and you can order your desired nose overhang.
    Also I’d definitely recommend to use a more heavy duty adhesive that doesn’t dry hard and cracks like wood glue

    • @mrvvoo
      @mrvvoo ปีที่แล้ว

      I learned about these local options too that my flooring dealer made me aware of. The only problem is that this doesn’t work well for laminate and vinyl. The mitered edges that are necessary inevitably end up with super sharp corners (which will also be fragile) or gaps with exposed MDF below the finished surface. The sales guy agreed this isn’t ideal for laminate/vinyl because you have to address this gap with a commercial-grade wax crayon to match the finish.
      This does work really well, however, for engineered hardwood floors. Especially ones with thick enough of a veneer. You can even route out a tiny round-overed edge and it would be perfect.
      For laminate/vinyl, not so much.

      @2008romboy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrvvoo
      That’s actually very surprising to me. What city are you in? I’m in Seattle area and the shop that I use makes them out of pretty much every type of flooring including lvp and laminate. And they ease the edges of mitered corners and color match with special blended stain in a way that it looks and feels like a solid piece of material. It sounds like the guys you’re using just aren’t using appropriate tools to manufacture them 🤔

    Nice job young man. I first started doing laminate flooring on stairs 24 years ago when PERGO laminate flooring was just becoming popular. I remember being a little intimidated on my first set of stairs as I had never done them before in laminate.. Now I can do them in my sleep. They are very simple to do once you get it down.
    The only time they get involved is if you have railings and spindles with open stairs on one side or both. This means you have to remove the railings and spindles, hole saw precise holes on the sides of your treads for the spindles to go back in after the tread is installed. You also have to 45 your front and side pieces of stair nose molding very precisely and then put the spindles and railing back together. One wrong hole or cut and you will be pulling your hair out doing the tread over!!!

    • @velvelhertz9698
      @velvelhertz9698 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is there any other way about going about this with spindles? Is there a way to do this without removing spindles and railing?

    I would have used acrylic caulk. Dirt will embed into the silicone, making it impossible to clean, where as acrylic will harden and be easily cleanable for its life.

    • @ericmuller3339

      Acrylic will eventually crack, letting water seep in. Silicone will never crack and remain pliable.

    • @keith_dixon

      @@ericmuller3339 if acrylic caulk cracks, it's because it wasn't applied properly. And silicone will crack, just like acrylic and for the same reason, it will also crack for reasons that acrylic won't. A quick search on acrylic vs silicone will yield a ton of info such as...........
      Although acrylic caulking can be used to guard against water penetration, due to its propensity to shrink and distort over time, it is not the best choice.
