  • This Dell Optiplex 9010 was having a power button issue
It's a i5-3rd gen barebones small form factor PC
The power supply is really easy to change and if you need to order one, most local computer shops will carry them. Just call and ask. These are literally a dime a dozen.

    Hey very informative vid!
I have the same prob. My pc Dell optiplex 9020 wont turn on after a power outage. The power button does not even light up.
But when I press the button at the back of the power supply, the green LED lights up and turns off when I released the button.
    Please advise.

Glad you enjoy it! It’s always changing. Thats the issue. I don’t do as many computers anymore. Just lost interest.

I was given a sortalike Optiplex (990 SFF), because it too suffered from a defective PSU. Because of the behaviour of the PSU diagnostic button and the power button LED, I assumed it to be a defective capacitor. I took the PSU out, took it apart and whaddya know! A bulging 10V 2200uF capacitor!
I replaced the capacitor and reassembled the PSU, and it's running KDE Neon like a charm now.
I however couldn't figure out how to put that blue PSU bracket back on. Turns out I hadn't placed the PSU quite right in the case 😅
I honestly love this era of Optiplexes. Their silver cheesegrater design is quite timeless in my opinion.

Is this a PSU issue or a motherboard issue?

Thank you for a very informative video. My computer is the same as yours and I heard a loud pop and it went dead. Your power button flashes orange, but my power button does not even light up. Is my problem still a faulty power supply unit? Thank you in advance for your expert reply.

Sounds like a fuse or a capacitor on the board. Thats the first thing I’d check
