      Out of curiosity, did you guys have to remove the shield around the power switch header to do this? I tried going that route with my (admittedly very old) donor case and my case's power switch cable just did not want to slot in. Ended up modifying a bracket to hold the Dell switch.

    • @TheNetGuy
      @TheNetGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. I removed it and left it off for my custom case build. When I returned it to the Dell original case I put it back on. It takes some finesse but it comes in and out.

This video really helped out since I missed a lot of stuff from the old case like the front fan and intruder thing. 17:55 Your ment to have the power supply fan facing down because it's meant to intake fresh air from the bottom and exhaust it out the back. But if you have it facing up, it might suffocate due to the lack of air intake which might lead to the power supply dying soon due to it overheating. The fan is not for "blowing" , It's for intake only!!!
    The only "blowing" happening is the hot exhaust air being blown out the back.
    But this is still a great vid, keep up the great content.

    I did the same thing with a 7010 tower. For the front panel connectors I took off the housing and routed the usb and audio to the front of the case. In my case the front panel jacks were removable and I was able to route the dell ones through for a seamless solution. It’s well worth buying these boards because they’re so cheap and plentiful. The front connectors were really the only downside

    What's the reason behind the case switch in the first place? The Dell case doesn't have good air intake, but that can be fixed by cutting off the HDD cage and mounting a 120 or 140 mm fan on the bottom of the front panel. The 2 x 5.2 optical bays on the top can be repurposed as intake as well.

    I had thought of something like this as well. I, however, went the other route. I modified the Dell case itself by removing the hard drive cage which made room for larger GPUs and mounted a fan on the front of the case. I feel this is a cheaper solution but nothing wrong with putting the insides in another case. Fresh ideas are always welcome.
    Another TH-camr shows how to easily modify the case. Well if you have the correct tools. ;)

    • @TheNetGuy
      @TheNetGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For some the visual appeal of an RGB case and additional room can be motivators. Since you already have a good mobo, cpu, ram, drives, etc from the 9020 that can be reused.

I assume i would find a pinout image of some sort and stick them on accordingly from there. Dont wanna have to buy an adapter rn. I'm not too worried about connectors that arent required (assuming the case would still function properly) all i really need is a way to power the fans, id be willing to use the PSU itself. Good point. In my new case the front fans were already installed and hook up via molex connector. Hello, this does not seem to apply to the SFF 9020, where the CPU heatsink applies directly to the case. Any ideas on how to move SFF to a new case? Not sure how to attach the heat sink. Or is there a way to attach a normal heatsink to it? The 5pin connector is an issue there. Thanks.

      Great name BTW - but you're absolutely right. I found some bolts that you can use as a backing for the SFF board - I'm going to do a video soon on the HP 800 G2 which is my "Dell Killer" upgrade which will show this.

      HP 800 G3 does not align. Most Dell 3020, 7020, 9020 do. It’s all based on the motherboard make up. 👍

    hello, i need your help, where did you put RGB fans switches(because my RGB fans are not fitting into the motherboard) or power on board
    and how to place another HD audio, led, reset switches???
    Please response me fast
    Thanks

    • @TheNetGuy
      @TheNetGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      HD audio I skipped because using the front panel audio headers is not normally recommended - there can be more noise on those than the back panel. Led and Reset I didn’t need - just power. USB 3 I use occasionally so I did hook that up because it’s a normal standard connector. Your RGB fans will have to run off Molex - or check out my video on the Aelous M2 1204 fan kit - very cool upgrade.

    • @TheNetGuy
      @TheNetGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and no - that power from the board is to lower the amount of wiring, though if you wanted to add more drives or additional loads - if you have the power supply connectors free it saves you from some extra power draw on the motherboard adapter.
