Many of you have asked what caused the failure. My Best guess for the failure is it had some surface rust in the case and crank from storage. Good fuel and gas after it came out of storage. No air leaks or carb issues.
I'm having to do the same thing on MS440. my question is where did you get your crank bearings? I don't want to get the crank bearings with the plastic cages. Thanks for your help. I really like your oil videos. I think the Stihl Ultra at 50-1 might be what caused my crank rod bearing to fry. I'm going to run Amsoil Saber 40-1 and see how that works out. Amsoil is cheaper than some of the other oils, when I order it from their website with the oil for my Harley.
A better two stroke oil will help. Premium oils like Saber, Dominator. Red Armor and motorcycle oils have better viscosity and will cling to the internals longer. Once or twice a year you should fire up your saw (with fresh mixed fuel). I can't stress enough 3-4 months for non-ethanol fuel and 30-45 days for ethanol fuel is the limits for storage. Not my opinion, but the advise from the gas companies.
Richard, may I ask you a question?. If a person ran 50-1 ratio would that have caused the interior rust which caused the failure on that cherry saw?. I was just wondering because the saw looks hardly used.
Richard...Owner ever give any insight as to what caused the failure? People who take that good of care of their saws have a pretty good idea how they screwed up. Just curious!

Do you think cheap oil. Why do you think it rusted. I’ve seen older saws sit for years without doing that.
That’s awesome I got 461 with 56 mm piston and custom parts from Gordy at west coast it’s 92 cc 461
