  • Since I'd still like to make my driveway just a little bit smoother, I decide to try a cheap chain link harrow. Come along to see how it works. Spoiler alert; not all of my ideas work..

On my chain link drag, I have a pallet strapped to the top, with some leftover bags of paver sand and/or landscaping blocks depending what I'm using it for. - I just bungee or strap the load down. I'll adjust the weight depending if I'm trying to drag the driveway, or the pasture.

Thanks Dach. All good ideas. I just can't seem to smooth the driveway further by dragging anything over top beacuse of the #3 stones just below the surface that get pulled up. Probably need a roller of sorts. Am leaving "good enough" alone for now. Have too much $$ and time already invested. Driving over it is helping anyway, so I'll move onto the 100 other projects that are waiting.
Thanks again for your good ideas to keep weight on the harrow. And thanks for watching..

That’s what a harrow does it pulls up your rocks . You don’t u defat and harrow . You need a roller if you want to smooth something out

I later figured out that if I took the weight off, and kept the mental bar up off the ground, dragging only the fence, it actually did a good job. I get what you're saying though; that is indeed the point of a harrow. Thanks for your comments.

What about a tow behind box blade? I bet that would work fantastically for what you're trying to accomplish!

Thanks for your suggestion Allen. In earlier videos I used both a box blade ( th-cam.com/video/3h3hlKSx_kQ/w-d-xo.html ) on the area close to my house, and a land plane ( th-cam.com/video/XyQgqlYP53o/w-d-xo.html ) on the area close to the road. The box blade does a good job moving stuff around, but doesn't leave a smooth, level surface. That's what the land plane is for. Both brought the #3 rock to the surface; as did the harrow. Unfortunately that larger rock in the foundation just wants to work it's way to the top and I can't stop it. I'm guessing a proper roller would be the best solution, but I no longer have patience or funds to spend on that. It's just going to have to be good enough.
Thanks again for your comment and for watching.

Get a land plane for your tractor. I use one on our ranch roads here in Texas

Thanks. In an earlier video I did that. Same problem with #3 stone getting pulled to the top. I've had suggestions since that video to adjust my land plane differently, so will try that next time.

Your going way too fast and yes having those large rocks close to the surface is bad. The more aggressive you get the worse that will be. You are expecting way to much out of that drag. It will be nice once you get enough small stone on top but even then the washboard condition will never be fixed with that drag.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's always a learning process and I don't always get it right the 1st time. So thanks for your advice and support. And thanks for watching my channel. Much appreciated.

Thanks. I haven't given up on it yet. I'm going to give it another try soon, only this time keeping the metal bar up off of the stone. Hoping that will work better. May take more passes, but worth it if the big stones don't get pulled up.
