1959 Citroën 2CV AZ - walkaround and POV drive

- A walkaround and short drive with my ripple bonnet 2CV. It has the slightly more powerful 425 cc engine (in 1959 the original 375 cc version was still available as well), which gives the car a top speed of about 80 km/h. On a flat road that is. Going uphill or with some headwind (or - God forbid - both) the speed potential decreases dramatically. Nonetheless, few cars are more fun to drive than a 2CV. It´s a true icon of automotive history, filled to the brim with ingenious technical solutions.

Now that's a proper 2CV. Ripple bonnet, forward-opening front doors, all as it should be. The larger engine (all things are relative) is a nice touch.
I was in college in France in '79 and one of my french friends had a 2CV from the 60's (I think). We'd all pile in and that thing and somehow got us to our destination every time. Absolutely the basics in this vehicle.
Très très belle auto félicitations.🥰👍
Merci beaucoup!
Démarrage au quart de tour et superbe 2cv !
Citroën 2CV AZ 1959. Me rappelle mon infance.
What a beauty! I would like to take a drive... with the very same driver ;)
Yess! I knew this car was going to be a babe magnet! ;-)
Très belle auto félicitations.
Merci! Mais je l'ai acheté comme ça et j'ai juste amélioré quelques détails... J'admire que vous fassiez tout vous-même.
This is a car where simplicity is a plus! Amazing video!
Beautiful car, I have a 1954 ripple bonnet that's never had a serious restoration so I'm amazed to see how little yours rattles and squeaks! Quick question, what kind of driveshafts are you running? I've got the original universal joint ones that make it very hard to drive around tight corners. I've heard of people modifying them to run later CV joint driveshafts, your car just doesn't seem to jerk back and forth around those village turns like mine does.
Hi! Nice to hear from a fellow ripple bonneteer ;-). In fact mine has the normal universal joints as well, maybe it doesn´t really show in the video but it jerks like a moody donkey too. What I sometimes try to do when making a tight turn (but you probably already know this from experience) is first gain some speed and then take the turn with the clutch down, that way it doesn´t jerk at all. But of course in many situations that´s not possible. I don´t know, it´s certainly a very uncomfortable phenomenon, but it´s also part of the car´s character, so personally I decided to live with it. Cheers!
@@ericcrama2221 thanks! Most of my experience in 2cvs is with a much later car, I’m still getting the hang of the older one, but I love it
That part at 5:00 is scary when it can barely go up the small hill.
Yep, should have left it in first gear 😅
Wat is ze prachtig 😊
Ze zegt bedankt! 😄
The engine seems stronger than original?
Hi. I don´t think it is, it´s completely original. Maybe in the first driving shots at 3:15 the engine seems stronger because it goes downhill... that makes a big difference...
Hi. But not like 9HP original engine I guess. What's the displacement / power of this one? Looks fast. Ps I had that same uphill reduction from 2nd into not synchronized 1st gear .... moments ... in polish Fiat 126 😅
0:55 What's that thing you get from the gas cap?
That´s the dipstick to measure how much fuel is in the tank. 2CV´s of this era did not have a fuel gauge. Wonderful, isn´t it? ;-)
@@ericcrama2221 Yes it's really cool! :)
how much is it worth, so beautifull..
Some things cannot be expressed in money ;-)
ชอบมากน่าจะมีขาย
😂😂😂👏👏👏👏🇪🇸🇪🇸
Acceleratiion is phenomenal, who needs a Tesla.
I drive circles around Teslas.
Whole car weighs roughly the same as the Tesla battery pack.
