1959 Citroën 2CV AZ - walkaround and POV drive
A walkaround and short drive with my ripple bonnet 2CV. It has the slightly more powerful 425 cc engine (in 1959 the original 375 cc version was still available as well), which gives the car a top speed of about 80 km/h. On a flat road that is. Going uphill or with some headwind (or - God forbid - both) the speed potential decreases dramatically. Nonetheless, few cars are more fun to drive than a 2CV. It´s a true icon of automotive history, filled to the brim with ingenious technical solutions.

Beautiful car, I have a 1954 ripple bonnet that's never had a serious restoration so I'm amazed to see how little yours rattles and squeaks! Quick question, what kind of driveshafts are you running? I've got the original universal joint ones that make it very hard to drive around tight corners. I've heard of people modifying them to run later CV joint driveshafts, your car just doesn't seem to jerk back and forth around those village turns like mine does.
Hi! Nice to hear from a fellow ripple bonneteer ;-). In fact mine has the normal universal joints as well, maybe it doesn´t really show in the video but it jerks like a moody donkey too. What I sometimes try to do when making a tight turn (but you probably already know this from experience) is first gain some speed and then take the turn with the clutch down, that way it doesn´t jerk at all. But of course in many situations that´s not possible. I don´t know, it´s certainly a very uncomfortable phenomenon, but it´s also part of the car´s character, so personally I decided to live with it. Ciao Luigi. Spero che Google traduca correttamente la mia risposta. Non c'è molta differenza in termini di coppia e accelerazione assoluta tra le due vetture, ma l'Alfetta ha chiaramente più potenza ai bassi regimi. Accelera in modo molto uniforme. La BMW accelera meno forte ai bassi regimi e "improvvisamente" diventa più potente esattamente a 4000 giri/min. Per quanto riguarda tenuta di strada e frenata: guido le mie auto abbastanza rilassato, come le classiche, quindi non posso dirtelo in dettaglio. Ma la BMW sembra un'auto più moderna, quindi la frenata e la tenuta di strada danno al guidatore maggiore sicurezza. Spero che aiuti! Ciao, Eric.

@@LUIGIANSIDEI La cosa principale che ricordo è che anche in frenata la BMW sembrava più un'auto moderna (e lo era, ovviamente) rispetto all'Alfetta. Un po' più facile da dosare forse. Ma non credo che l'Alfa avesse bisogno di più distanza per fermarsi. Entrambi hanno frenato molto bene.
Citroën 2CV AZ 1959. Me rappelle mon infance. Tous les prêtres et religieuses en avaient une à Buenos Aires. Ils s'agissait de voitures importées de Belgique ou de France. Toit en toile, capot nervuré, ils n'existaient qu'en une seule couleur, gris bleute.
Merci de partager ces souvenirs. Je ne savais pas qu´ils étaient aussi populaires en Argentine.

Now that's a proper 2CV. Ripple bonnet, forward-opening front doors, all as it should be. The larger engine (all things are relative) is a nice touch.

Hij staat op oldtimer kenteken, dus de wegentaks is maar 100 euro (99,99 om precies te zijn) per jaar. BIV weet ik niet meer, maar was ook niet veel.

That´s the dipstick to measure how much fuel is in the tank. 2CV´s of this era did not have a fuel gauge. Wonderful, isn´t it? ;-)

I was in college in France in '79 and one of my french friends had a 2CV from the 60's (I think). We'd all pile in and that thing and somehow got us to our destination every time. Absolutely the basics in this vehicle.

Hi. I don´t think it is, it´s completely original. Maybe in the first driving shots at 3:15 the engine seems stronger because it goes downhill... that makes a big difference...

Hola saludos desde Argentina. Tuve Renault 18 y Fuego. Pero no conocía esa versión de Renault fuego gtl . Qué equipamiento traia ? Y que motor? No lo conozco. Saludos y felicitaciones
Hola! El coche es de origen holandés, allí la versión más básica fue el TL con motor 1.4. El GTL fue la siguiente versión, tiene un 1.6 con 74 pk. También había el GTS, con el mismo 1.6 pero con 96 pk. Y luego por supuesto los 2.0 y el Turbo. Bastante complicado todo ;-) Gracias y saludos!
@@ericcrama2221 gracias por la respuesta. Es raro en Argentina fueron todos 2.0 o 2.2 y este tiene las tazas del Renault 18 gtl 1.4 ( mismo motor del Renault 12 que luego fue llevado a 1.6) motor varillero de camisas flotantes. Realmente no idéntifico el motor que trae
Creo que este 1.6 se llama A2M, es una versión del motor conocido como el "Cléon-Alu". Es muy económico, gasta muy poco. Pero no me importaría tener un poco más potencia bajo el capo como teníais en Argentina... @@javiermiguens5340
@@ericcrama2221 si aquí fue un suceso y tuvo varios rediseños el último se llamó Renault Fuego GTA Max y traía un 2.2 de 123 cv con una máxima de casi 200 kilómetros por hora ( hoy un auto de 3 cilindros trae eso jajaja 😂) pero era muy lindo y con una estética diferente a la europea. Se vendió hasta 1992 ( yo tuve una color rojo y era un sueño. Iba a cargar combustible y me pedían fotos o la filmaban .fue en 2017 era un auto de colección) la versión del video tiene elementos extraños. Volante de Renault 18. Reloj de hora analógico, aquí en el 18 gtx se había ofrecido, y no veo que traiga parlantes delanteros en las puertas. Encima le agregaron techo corredizo solar
