Hey Tom! You could start with some carb cleaner, tearing down the carbs and giving them a good soak. I went one step further and purchased an ultrasonic cleaner cheap on Amazon, and that works a treat!

My buddy gave it to me, and I'm not sure where he got it, but you could use anything, even something like an adjustable wrench, just open it up enough to miss the valve stem and keepers and use it as a pry bar the same way this tool was used! Hello - I have just purchased pretty much the exact model and year you have there - the previous owner passed away and son sold bike to me. It all looks good and will turn over however the previous owner took off whatever that is connected to the rear of the cylinder head on the right hand side of the bike as you are sitting on it. A worm gear protrudes from the rear of that cylinder head to the rear when removed - I have no idea what that is and why the previous owner would remove it - do you know what that is for? it has the two grey vacuum hoses coming from it. Trying to work out why he would have removed it. Thank you your videos are very useful.

Hey Britcheflee. That is actually the fuel pump, and also where the tach cable gets connected. You can see it here:

Since some parts of the fuel tank are pretty low, lower than where the carbs are fed, I don't think gravity feed will work on this bike unless it is totally topped off with fuel, and then once it gets down so far it'll be no good again. No issues without a tachometer cable hooked up, but a fuel pump is a requirement for sure.
