either valve spring removal tool will work. The first one is what I've used in the past. But hell, what a crafty invention you came up with.

Man bro I purchased the Lisle 36050 Valve Keeper Remover and Installer Kit on Amazon for just over $60.00 USD and I would have gladly paid 3 times that to avoid going through what you did to do such a simple task!

Indeed ... it’s always easier when you have the correct tool. My issue is; that tool would have cost me $125 (Cdn funds) to complete a job I’ll only ever do once! A scrap of wood, a threaded rod and a bit of ingenuity were readily available!
      Cheers

Does it solved the oil smoke when the engine is cold ? i've read that all the old goldwings are smoking due to engine design when it on it's side stand

I just used a short 30x30 angle with 3 holes drilled in it and a open end spanner worked just fine as.

Why not just pull the head and use a standard valve spring compressor. Seems like more work making that contraption than it would have been to pluck the head.

      Hello Eric,
Thank you for taking the time to comment on my video. I agree that the valve stem seals are easily replaced once the head is removed.
In my case, my original Honda head gaskets showed no signs of leakage or deterioration and I didn’t want to invest the extra time and expense to replace them. This video presents a minimally invasive procedure, allowing those persons that need to replace the valve stem seals to do so, without disturbing the heads!
      Cheers!

Do you know if this same procedure would work on a gl1000?

      Hello Justin,
Thank you for viewing my video.I have never tried this valve stem seal replacement procedure on the GL1000, but I suspect it
could be used as the engine is essentially the same as the GL1100. Please let us know if it works for you.
      Cheers!

Be very careful if you try this. Those aren't "rocker assembly bolts" they are the cylinder head bolts so all that's holding the heads on is the gasket. If you turn the wrench on the alternator bolt too hard you might pop the head off...
    Otherwise its a neat solution.

Thank you for viewing my video and taking the time to post a comment. In fact, while performing this procedure, there is no need to touch the six 10mm (black cap) head bolts, which are clearly visible around the perimeter of the head. (The small 6mm bolt at the bottom is not visible). The 6 bolts I use to mount the valve spring compressor assembly are, in fact, the camshaft assembly retainer bolts. Just thought you’d like to know.
      Safe riding!

D'oh! I don't know how I could have thought that. As a matter of fact, I have the heads off of an '82 GL1100 right now so I should have known better. I must have been thinking about my other bike (CX650) because the supports for its rockers are held in place by the head bolts.
