    I use everyday the new citaro busses in germany ^^. But not as an hybrid, they need CNG Gas for´their Fuelcell.
    And the best is, I'm just making my driver Liecen's for Bus^^

    @ritariassafani They still develope them. The difference is, that the citaroGbluetech hybrid is a standart fuel based hybrid (like a Prius) and this one here has a new FuelCell engine combined with a hybrid, so you see, two different things:D
    I hope I could help you...

    @1100HondaCB The only advantage a diesel engine has over this fuel cell technology is safety against explosion or burst. In rest, fuel cell is king. If you're less than 50 years old, you won't see to much around the good old diesel engine. Have a good day!

      Diesel can be eco-friendly, only if the diesel engine use renewable diesel HVO, an eco-friendly fuel low on emissions.

    I also want to see regenerative braking systems fitted on all busses, today. This goal should have been attended to a decade ago.
    It does not matter if it is feeding into a resistor grid. Even diesel busses benefit from regenerative breaking. Hot brakes do not work too well on heavy vehicles. By keeping the brake temperature down, the safety and efficiency of those braking systems are increased. Look up the Voith fluid retarder; an accessory which mounts onto the vehicle's gearbox.
    As vehicle body producers become accustomed to installing these dynamos, they can gradually start storing power in the vehicles ignition and accessory battery systems. Finally, an advanced regenerative braking system can be fitted to this fuel cell vehicle, storing everything it generates 100% of the time.

    @MercedesF700 you can just go overseas they have many buses like this and even better in most large cities of western europe. Me personally I prefer the trolleybuses over anything else, they are environment friendly and the closets things to trams you'll ever get to ride, and the engines sound amazing.

    Farewell to old diesel noise and pollution, welcome to 21st century technology. All city buses should be like this one. Good job Mercedes !

    @Kitfugl Nope. That's how the Ballard fuel cell powertrain sounds like on the Citaro. I haven't been on this model but I did try the older Fuel Cell Citaros when they were operating the RV1 route in London a few years back and they do have this characteristic high pitched whine.

    @gecalsthom It's a concept in testing for now. But when it will get into series production, it won't cost to much comparable to a standard diesel bus - maximum 20% more.

  • @gecalsthom
    @gecalsthom 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @cookj1132 It's significantly more than that I would assume. I do not know exactly but I would estimate upwards of a $1million.

    Hydrogen was not neccesary. Fuel cells are more efficient than internal combustion engines. You could use Natural Gas. provided the fuel cell technology allows it. Also hydrogen is expensive and is taken out mostly from natural gas compared to electrolysis. It is more difficult to store hydrogen than Natural gas as hydrogen leaks. Also we can create methane gas through human waste. In India we use cow dung.

      Use one technology will causes deficiency and energy crisis, the best way for get the efficiency is a balance, and the most important, contribute to the ecology, green electricity, biofuels, hydrogen (H2-ICE and fuel cells) and e fuels, using them together we will get real efficiency and net 0 🌱♻️

    They have full electric buses too, i believe they have them in test in LA. Special drive under power station charged in 10 minutes, non conductive body. Buses these days or like from scifi movie

    • @druhyprogram
      @druhyprogram 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are now exploited in Europe, e.g. in Vienna. A bus is charged, connected to the wires for, let's say, 10 minutes, then rides for 20 minutes. But so far only small buses and short routes with minimum elevation are feasible. If you want full scale electric power, you still have to resort to trolley-bus use, which draws the power from overhead wiring. Such system is long known in San Francisco.

    I think they have cheated and put an engine sound from a Learjet 45 in on the bus when it runs by the camera...

    I don't like this fuel cell and Lithium ion stuff etc. I hope the good old diesel engine is still around long after I depart. Long live the internal combustion engine.
