Fencing for Sheep and Goats that works

  • This is the cheapest and most effective way I have found to keep sheep and goats in. You don't need a fence that will hold water. We rarely have anyone get out. Our animals are born and raised around it. I've used this for 20 years and I wouldn't be in this business if it didn't work. Make sure to use the hottest charger possible and 12.5 gauge wire. Make sure they have plenty of good forage. This will not work for small paddocks and rotational grazing. You are trying to crowd the animals too much and force them to eat what they do not like. Plus, you usually do not have a backup barb wire fence. We use 3 wire electric for that.

What are you using for fiberglass rods (diameter and length)? Thanks for the info.

Thanks Greg for the information. Do you find the single wire works to keep the livestock guardian dogs in as well. I don't worry about my goats too much anymore, but my dogs will test the fence

It is almost impossible to keep a lgd in if he wants out. Why does he not stay with the livestock? This is probably a dog problem more than a fence problem.
