To everyone laughing in the comments: thank you. I have turned my Tourette's into an ice breaker. I look at it as a gift. It lightens the mood once people know what is really happening. Yes I did laugh at this. I am probably going to hell. But I really do admire these people for having such an optimistic view and being able to laugh at themselves. That's something we need more of in the world.
+Miriam R Yep yep yep yep yep! The man that said he has grown to realize that Torettes is a part of him, a part of his identity that he wouldn't want to change. I admire that. It doesn't seem like it would take long if you spent time with them to filter out their ticks and just see the real person behind them.
Many of us with Tourette Syndrome are actually very intelligent. Our IQ's are often higher than the average person. Why? Because when you have Tourette Syndrome and you like something and you can focus on it you forget that you have Tourette Syndrome altogether. You can study a subject you love, dive into art, play sports, or do anything at a slightly higher level because your concentration peaks when you love something, because it's total relief.
I watched a video last month with 3 men who have Tourette's syndrome go on a road trip and I laughed so hard. At least they were laughing along and saw the bright side of things.
Someone at my school suffers from this, and they have 'laughing attacks'. It's actually really scary because at random times they just drop to the ground laughing like they just saw a llama in a bikini hopping away from a dinosaur
I have known about this condition, but now I understand it even more. I've seen people making fun of Tourette's movements and the ticks and it was wrong before I even learned about it tonight. My blessings to those who go through this. You won my respect more than before.
Ok_Nigga Baked omg I’m dead!!!! I love it! I too have Tourette’s so I feel that I’m allowed to laugh. Also - I think those without should feel no shame in laughing either. IT IS FUNNY.
Thank you sir, god bless you :D Tourettes people are normal do haha, I'm lucky my tourette is extremely mild and I keep losing it for large amount of time
I know Tourettes is a very serious thing but regardless the shit the girl was saying had me crying laughing. people with Tourettes say some creative things some times.
+Moretreats yeah, she is very attractive and unfortunate she has to live with such a handicap but... "Knock, Knock. Whose there? Lucifer", smh what...? I would like to find the source from which this phrase originated that is now in her memory. I hope it was some prick, messing with her feeding lines to her for shits and giggles. That would be a new level of sick.
I have to admit, this brought me to a new awareness. If I was walking along and she blurted out "faggot," I would be horribly offended and probably confront her...I have to remember, we never know EVERYBODY'S story. I would only be offended because I am gay, but it's nothing I haven't been called before. LOL I actually have a tic (a fake cough) that gets worse if I have too much sugar or caffeine (I owe it to my previous meth use). I am not sure if it is Tourette's or a residual effect from 10 years of meth use. Clean 10 years now, but when I'm stressed, nervous or caffeinated up, there it is.
Finally a video that respects people who have the Tourette's ! My brother has it and sometimes he can really be bad but he doesn't mean too... I love him A LOT! There's another video I saw that was so offending and rude about Tourette's
I agree. I know a couple of people with Tourette's. Making fun of people with Tourette's and disrespecting people who have it is like making fun of someone for being gay or for having a different skin color than you. It's not that they can control it and it is part of what makes them themselves, so appreciating them for who they are will make you seem like less of a dick (not YOU just people in general).
All seem like really cool people. It's important to understand things like tourettes so that we can see more than just the syndrome but the whole person. I wish I could thank all these great folks who participated in this program.
*Lady with tourettes* "Knock knock? Who's there? Lucifer. Hello Lucifer." *Friend of lady with tourettes* "Let's take Lucifer shopping." That was so hysterical. Seriously. Lol. NO MEAN TO DIRESPECT WHATSOEVER! Just found that so hilarious.
Amazing people. So appreciate them being so open and sharing of themselves. My daughter just diagnosed,,,,,, learned a lot from their experiences. Shed a few tears. Thank you
Natalie Catt i have tourettes and usually when i really consentrate on something without being interrupted, i can do it without most of the tics.for example i have made precise lab exercises in uni. it's also connected to stress, and as i'm socially awkward, the symptoms are much worse when with strangers.
In spite of the difficulties that they each have to deal with every day, l’m struck by how kind, gentle and genuinely nice people they are. No seething resentment, no bitter ‘why me?’, nothing remotely like feeling sorry for the hand they’ve been dealt. These astounding personal traits have had their roots in sheer courage and a relentless ethic of not allowing their condition to define them. I think they may well be among the very bravest of people we are likely to see. I wish them all the very best.
+hockeyprogoalie she could've got them before she developed tourettes, you can be born with it or catch it on later in life, or if she was born with it it could have been less grave at the time she got them
I know people who can suppress their tourettes for a time. My friend had his braces done with tourettes. When she was thinking about how long it had been since she went shopping, she didn't tic or curse once.
Scientists and doctors dont really understand Tourettes because they never had it. Take it from someone who has been diagnosed with Tourettes and is now as normal as any one of ypu, I am now tic free. Tourettes is not a neurological disorder its really an addiction disorder. We have all been addicted to things in our lives so just imagine being deprived of your addiction it drives your brain nuts doesnt it? So in Tourettes its an addiction to actions. Now to anyone who has Tourettes your brain is not really different from other people per say but you have overstimulated certain motor pathways in your pathway which have now been transformed into habits. Notice how one girl loses her ticks when she sings this should tell you that tourettes is exacerbated by brain stimulation and diminished by brain relaxation. This is why antipsychotic drugs like Haloperidol is used. Tourettes is an addiction disorder not an actual neurological disorderlike Autism or Down Syndrome so you wont find any differences in their brains. One day I hope to inform the Medical Community of there great misunderstanding. People with Tourettes are just normal people who picked up terrible habits when they were young thats all it is.
Well my story isnt all that graceful, but I will share. If you notice that one of the girls figured out a way to stop her tics by singing. Well what she was basically doing is replacing her tic impulse with the calming nerve signals she recieves to her brain when she sings. Now for me lets just say I got a girlfriend who accepted my disorder and one night with her I discovered natures most powerful relaxers, need I say more. It was after we did the deed that she pointed out the observation to me I had learned one way to put my brain in a relaxed state. Well after that I looked for other powerful relaxants for my brain that were natural and less embarrassing. After finding out the things that relaxed me after some time my tics gradually died and even when I did the action I the urges werent so powerful to do it again. After about 3 years I was completely tic free and I remain to this day well not quite... check this out even today when I get really really nervous my main tic which was blinking and clearing my throat comes back temporarily. lol it makes perfect sense to me.
So it's sort of like people with aphasia(?). They can speak more complete with musical therapy, though aphasia is actually a neurological problem brought on by brain/head trauma. Your tics weren't as bad as the comedian's tics (i worry over my teeth and seeing him clack his teeth together with such force made me uncomfortable), and people with more serious tics like those would benefit from a sort of relaxation therapy.
Precisely, but it is definitely not genetic or trauma related, so it saddens me to see in another video doctors implanting electrodes into a girls brain who had severe Tourettes, its such an invasive procedure and I wasnt surprised when it did not really work. Also notice how they all have very unique and bizarre tics that are very specific, in a way its very similar to ocd but with an addiction component. You also have main tics and the minor tics that you do less frequently that the main one, both main and minor tic frequencies increase with anxiety or brain stimulation.
oh my god i am dying listening to the biscuit lady! i am way too high for this, i love how she just drops the word in like its how she breathes & just comes out while she's talking, it's almost like really awesome at some points sort of like beat boxers who can somehow manage crazy tongue twisting technical sounding mixtures of sounds at one time
My heart goes out to these people. It must be so hard :( I have a very mild form of Tourette's, and it's extremely controllable, so I guess you can say just the tendencies are there, but even tics that are as small as mine are no fun, so I can only imagine how awful it must be for these people. Stay strong, all of you :)
I did because I laughed but I just couldn't help it. I know it's bad to laugh at such things I just can't do anything about it. Then I got scared because this could happen to me.. something like karma so I stopped. Did you feel it that way too?

Many of us with Tourette Syndrome are actually very intelligent. Our IQ's are often higher than the average person. Why? Because when you have Tourette Syndrome and you like something and you can focus on it you forget that you have Tourette Syndrome altogether. You can study a subject you love, dive into art, play sports, or do anything at a slightly higher level because your concentration peaks when you love something, because it's total relief.

Julia Reilly thank you for agreeing :)

Natalie Catt i have tourettes and usually when i really consentrate on something without being interrupted, i can do it without most of the tics.for example i have made precise lab exercises in uni. it's also connected to stress, and as i'm socially awkward, the symptoms are much worse when with strangers.
because they are faking.
Hatsikuji Mayonez wow that's interesting! thanks
This stuff is for sure triggered by anxiety.
Tourette's can be a lot worse with anxiety, but anything can trigger tics, and sometimes they happen for no reason at all.
how did she get all those piercings when her head is always moving?
+hockeyprogoalie Singing prob.
the piercings were probably created from it moving
+Steveguy124 OHHHHHBNNHHSGSHBD biscuit
+hockeyprogoalie she could've got them before she developed tourettes, you can be born with it or catch it on later in life, or if she was born with it it could have been less grave at the time she got them
I know people who can suppress their tourettes for a time. My friend had his braces done with tourettes. When she was thinking about how long it had been since she went shopping, she didn't tic or curse once.
I watched the road within and I'm here now hahaha.

This is very interesting. How did you get rid of your tics? Abstinence?
Abstaining, rather. Not abstinence.
Change the world , one biscuit at a time.
oh my god i am dying listening to the biscuit lady! i am way too high for this, i love how she just drops the word in like its how she breathes & just comes out while she's talking, it's almost like really awesome at some points sort of like beat boxers who can somehow manage crazy tongue twisting technical sounding mixtures of sounds at one time
My heart goes out to these people. It must be so hard :( I have a very mild form of Tourette's, and it's extremely controllable, so I guess you can say just the tendencies are there, but even tics that are as small as mine are no fun, so I can only imagine how awful it must be for these people. Stay strong, all of you :)
