- in this video I'm gonna bring you along with me as I diagnose and fix a 2013 BMW X3 that was brought to our shop with a Crank No Start Condition,
in this video I share with you the step by step process to figure out the cause of a no start condition! Enjoy!

It’s great to see you mentoring Abraham! He’ll grow up to be a smart man.
Bart Young Yeah! I hope he does!
This is the best video on the N20/N26 crank no start fix video. Properly explained. This is exceptional. Thanks to Abraham too. Such a great help.
@f30hotep3 Thank you!
Wow....this is one of the greatest videos and mechanic I've ever seen 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦👏👏👏 tracing the problem very well

@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair thanks for the video! I’ve got a fuel pump out on my x3 same model/year it appears. Going to attempt tomorrow.
I am a beginner and i am learning how to fix my own car. So far i already replace and diagnose ignition coil misfire. Changed coil, spark plug, break pads, absorbers. Etc. Your video is one of the best for beginners like me to fully understand. Thank you so much. Godbless

Nice to see a car repair video with someone younger. Turning a wrench is a dying skill that we need to do a better job passing down.

This is a heck of a technician, many shops are not qualified to work on bmw's and they'll charge a lot of money to probe around and still not fix the issue.

Great video! My 2011 X3-28i (108K miles) cranks & would not start just like this one. It suddenly shot off at a traffic light and it went right into "P"ark and it just cranks after that. Had it towed to this mechanic which said it is the timing chain and that it would be $5,500 to fix. Having it towed home tomorrow so I can clear my mind and decide what to do. But, this video has brighten up a spot in mind brain; I will try to follow some of your diagnosis and see how far I can get. Thanks for being so thorough and complete.

Ok. A couple things. Great video. Great helper. Did you say you say that car didn’t have a dipstick?
Stephen Treadwell Thanks! the oil level is checked electronically!!
One of the worst things to take away is the engine oil dipstick.
NO_EYES_ON_ME hahah you have to check the oil electronically on this vehicle!
As a long time BMW owner and DIYer I was immediately suspicious of that indicated half a tank level when you checked for fuel. Because of the fuel tank design, BMWs have 2 level sensors, one stand-alone one on the driver's side and one integrated in the fuel pump on the passenger side. The driver's side of the tank is siphoned into the passenger side during normal operation. When you reach half a tank, the driver's side sensor reports empty and the passenger side (on the pump) reports full, and you get the half tank shown on the gauge. If either level sensor fails you get that false half a tank reading as you saw.
Tangent360 Yes! exactly, Thanks for your comment!
In my view, this was a very educational video, you showed most of the tec matters involved, perhaps just missing the tabs on the electric connectors that need to be pressed in order to unplug them. Besides that, and as an owner of a BMW X5 it is a remainder (not that I need reminding) that BMW vehicles are prone to technical issues, not that I have had a chance to forget. Parts are expensive, and often difficult to replace, so NOT a vehicle for someone without plenty of money, or the ability and willingness to deal with the various issues that crop up.
In my view BMW vehicles are for people who can afford to buy them new and replace them after a few year's, or enthusiasts who is prepared to get a fine looking older BMW comparably cheap (they depriciate quickly for a reason) and fix it up as needed.
They are somewhat like racehorces, quick and attractive and generally rather expensive to maintain, especially if you can't do it yourself. $$$ !!! 😓
Stay safe, regards Niels 💕

Quick question do you know where the fuel pump relay is located on a 2013 BMW X3
@devinjohnson4968 it's in the fuse box in the trunk!
That's what I was wondering enemy possible I can get a picture can really use your help
So at 12:19 good spark great compression fuel delivery must be the problem. Will it be no injection bad fob or just a fuel pump and or camshaft sensor issue because of a cheap oil change. I cant wait to see the resolution. Thanks great video and good to see you have a protege that will keep your legacy going for our children.
Minute 32:24 awsome simple fix especially being German engendered that really can get bad. Your son was awesome and that you for sharing your knowledge to us and your son...I hope he is If not sorry.😁👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯

What scan tool are you using?
@marshc123 the snapon zeus!
What a ride...🍻🍻🍻 What would have happened if you used a current clamp to test the fuel pump...?
Electrically....the clamp would have shown good commutation not a dead fuel pump. But when no fuel was flowing....I would still have pulled the pump. Good job K!
john mwangi I like Next Level Auto Diagnostics answer, I could have not seen a fault using an amp clamp! or maybe the amperage draw was gonna be a bit lower than normal!!

My fuel pump stopped working and suddenly it started working. I did some troubleshooting on the relay and found that I have 14volts coming in but only 9.9volts coming out to the pump. What voltage should be going out to the pump? Is my relay failing?
@nandosbeat yes! most likely!
great video thanks
dan man Thank you!!
The level sensor only measures the half tank that’s why it shows half quantity the problem is the fuel filter at the second half of the tank
Saied Abushadi the level gauge started working well after I replaced the level sensor!

What if you have fuel in the rail? Still crank No start?
Train Wreck check for spark and injector pulse
No spark. How do I check for pulse?
F15 x5 n55. 1f4a10 with wastegate codes. Just replaced whole valve cover with one from fcp. Car was running fine but a strong smell of fuel had me recheck my fuel lines. After going to start the car to pressurize the fuel lines and check for leaks it would crank but not start. Checked everything except the fuel pump/module. But I’m getting fuel pressure in the rails. Even opened the ism to check the fuses. All good. Swapped ism from another n55 car I have and still no start. I’m at wits end.
Also to add. I replaced all 6 injectors with new oem injectors.
Nice
Engineer Hussien Thanks!
Good video the engine sounds very noisy and tappy
Richard Taylor Yes!
My great engineer, Please help!
Recently, a client called me to fix his 2000 Toyota Avalon car that cranked but wasn't starting.
From the onset, the car experienced several mechanical, as well as, electrical issues. Some of those problems were:-
(1) Engine Oil consumption;
(2) Engine misfire;
(3) Engine rattling;
(4) Intermittent hard starting after shutdown;
(5) Hard to engage in drive, except engine is hot; etc.
Hence, he took the car to a garage inorder to rectify the excessive Engine oil consumption and other car problems highlighted above. Consequently, the car problems exacerbated after engine rebuild by the engineer!
The car owner wasn't satisfied with his repairs because it seems the engineer was deceitful. Although the car started after the rebuild, the problems still persisted. Valves weren't grinded after engine overhaul, engine still misfired at idle and when accelerating, etc.
The engineer whose garage the car is presently being parked, requested for another engine overhau/ rebuildl. After engine rebuild the car started, the oil was mixed with water; the engine was still misfiring, rattling, etc. It was obvious, that he didn't use durable parts to do his work.
Hence, the car owner moved the car to another garage for better repairs. The new garage suggested to the car owner that another engine rebuild is pertinent for optimal engine operation.
During my conversation with this engineer, whose garage the car is presently being parked, he told me that: "when the car was first brought in, he noticed a black smoke ( maybe he was mistaken for blue smoke, at exhaust tail at idle). When accelerating, there's a loss of power, engine bucking, popping,etc. After the rebuild, the car didn't start because the mechanic didn't unlock the car with the remote but proceeded directly to cranking the engine. In addition, the security relay wasn't actuated for starting to take place. Electrician did some wire cutting around that axis which he said was corrected to factory, opened with a remote before the car started.
Fortunately, after everything, the car started again. But there was still an intermittent misfire. What the car owner said was that, 'even when the second mechanic did engine rebuild, the car still misfired. Until he personally bypassed earth from the COP wire to the solenoids very close to the fuel injector often tightened with 10mm knot and depicted with blue and green colors on the picture. Car owner verified that the reasons for the misfire from both mechanics which still prevailed, was due to the solenoid valve that wasn't opening. That's why when accelerating it experienced a loss of power, similar to that experienced by a faulty fuel pump.
After gear oil replacement and test driven by the second mechanic , smoke started emanating from the engine bay. Precisely, from the fan relay that the car owner connected by himself. Within few minutes, the car shutdown by itself as if fuel is finished. As he tried to restart it, the car refused to. Infact, when the ignition switch was turned to Acc/ ignition position, battery and fuel light was not displaying in the dashboard/ instrument cluster. However, during cranking battery light glew faintly and start. But when throttled, it would shutdown. Electrician verified and replaced the alternator diode with a new one. When Ignition switch was turned to Acc/ ignition position, the battery and other lights came out brightly but when cranked to start engine wouldn't start again. Sadly, it still wouldn't start.
I tried to scan for DTC codes, but my scanner wasn't communicating. I checked all fuses, power and ground at obd port, those checked ok. but my scanner isn't compatible to read CAN network. there are only 4 wires intact for the obd2 port.
Furthermore, I added fuel through the intake to the engine, no change at all. I checked for spark and injector pulse. These things weren't present. But there was power to injector with just the key at ignition or ACC and COP had 1 ground and 1 power as usual.
Electrician from that garage, who also worked on the car said that he sniffed burning smell from the ECU, however personally I didn't when I went to start the car. I don't know how certain that was. Hence, I pulled out the ECU to a laptop board engineer to test the components inside. He said: "everything looks ok and test fine, however the IC he doesn't have the right tools to proceed with the test. With the ECU removed battery connected, Engine light would come ON. with ECU connected check light still comes ON.
Before I left, I checked the MAF sensor 5 wires and noticed that 3 wires were earth instead of 2 and 1 power; no ignition current/ power was available for the remaining 2 wires.
Please, what should I do to start the car?
david essien I recommend you take it to a pro mechanic who is good at diagnostic that can diagnose it for you!

@y22dtr1 the starter was fine my friend!
Why would you assume all the coils produce spark? Just because one coil sparks does not mean you can assume others are. Say there is one bad ground controlling three coils, then you only have three coils producing spark…
mike sabin if you have 3 coils that are firing the engine will start or try to start!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair thats not really the point i was making.. i made that scenario up to exhibit that you cannot assume that all other coils fire just because one did. THATS THE POINT!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair lets try this made up scenario instead…
You have a power wire coming in and it only reaches the one coil you tested.. the power wire has a broken splice and does not feed any other coil… boom… spark on the one coil you tested

@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair yes sometimes it’s just that ppl remove them and tweak on them and move shot around unless it’s been your car for years then most likely you have a better idea of what’s wrong with it what’s the name of that big fuse box there black and light green and square I’ll get back at you with the correct name for it it’s the main 2 big fuses on top in the glove box
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair the light green box fuse box I’m talking about I think it’s called a relay I have a question how many should be connected because I let some one use my car for 4 months and this motherfreakers tweaked on my car not cool but I was having a problem trying to turn it on until I remember little things about it and check the fuse box and see that the relay was not connected but the relay was in the backseat so after connecting in the car started but I still have a couple of other relays left a black one and a light green one as well so in total is three after the car, not turning on, I connected the relay in the car started
