    Today we are reviewing a watch I wanted for a very very long time, a Doxa Sub.
    With the end of Marei era and Jenny family taking over Doxa again, the older models are getting more and more rare, so my original idea of getting a 1200T got replaced by the idea of getting a readily available 300T from the current offering.
    I had some doubts about it and sadly they for confirmed in this video.
    So watch it and see me going from fully excited to fully disappointed 😭😭😭

    Enjoyed your review. Well done . I have owned a Sub 6000t for four years. It is a bit large for everyday wear but I’ve gotten used to it. Perhaps the smaller cased Sub 1200T would have been a better choice for everyday. As I dive, I do like the ruggedness and visibility. The bezel on mine is rock solid with excellent action.
    I had the opportunity to meet Jacques Cousteau’s oldest son, Jean-Michel , a couple years ago and he was wearing his well worn/loved orange Doxa.
    I knew there were changes at Doxa in the last few years, but didn’t know all the details. I can only speak to the quality on my watch and the few others I have come into contact with and have to say they are built for real use.

    There's 2 watches that I always want as soon as I see them and for some reason when I have the money I don't buy them. Seiko Tuna SBBN031 black bezel and this style of Doxa. I don't know what's holding me back.

  • @surfitli

    I did not know that about The Jenny Family taking control of Doxa again. Last year they released a number of models, this, the smaller Sub 200, and a re-release of the larger Sub 1500T.
    I have the Aquamarine version of this. I do really like it. I have a larger wrist so I don’t have that issue with the end link.
    Thanks would agree with the lume, but this is not new. I also have a 1200T sharkhunter, which has like me which is not up to modern expectations.
    One thing with price. This is a very involved case, dial, and bezel, plus it’s using an actual ETA. It is not clear who is making the case and dial.

    I purchased the 750T Sharkhunter re-edition in 2007 for about $1300, and the 1000T Professional in 2009 for the same price. I think the $1300 price point is about right. Current models are way over priced for what they are offering. Love the watch, but the only thing keeping me from picking up a 3rd Doxa is the price. There are far too many offerings that are just as good or even better for much less.

    Great review. This is the best version of the Beads Of Rice I’ve seen on a watch. The clasp was always the downside though. Glad they fixed that. The bezel movement was a little disappointing to see. You said it was on earlier models, have they fixed that?

  • @thomasmoll8822
    @thomasmoll8822 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Per WUS, you can actually mount the SUB300 (no-T) bracelet with the 300T end links and thereby get rid of the flared out first links… but you lose the ratcheting clasp, obviously.

    • @whereRbearsTeeth
      @whereRbearsTeeth 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or you can very easily get the endlinks to fully articulate by slightly sanding them down. I did this on my 300T in about 15 minutes and it now drapes across the wrist beautifully, just like the 300..

  • @cmdrflint9115
    @cmdrflint9115 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My 1200T Caribbean also had the issue with the bezel play, so I don't think it's anything new.
    Picked up a 300T Pro on launch, and do slightly prefer it vs the 1200T, flat crystal and no more massive Jenny fish on the caseback, both still daily wearers, although the 1200T is in desperate need of a service.
    Didn't know the story of how Jenny screwed over Rick Marei, so thanks for the enlightenment. I had an early 2000s 300T with a horrid bracelet that was apparently "Marei era", wish i hadnt sold it now, probably be worth more than the £800 it went for!

    Great video!!
    And great summary on how the Jenny family f.....over Rick Marei once the distribution contract run out.
    I've bought one of the last Marei 1200 T Professional orange dial in 2019. And I don't regret it !! It's such a beautiful watch. Now that Rick M. Isn't with Doxa anymore, Doxa unfortunately changed for the worse!! They're customer service is just horrible!!! I've had my share of angry moments with new Doxa!!! But I agree, the bracelet on the 1200 T is much better than the 300 version. Except the ratchet clasp. But all in all I love my 1200 to death and never would sell it! They'd have to cut it of my dead wrist!!!!

    • @whereRbearsTeeth
      @whereRbearsTeeth 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That issue is easily fixed by slightly sanding down the links. I did this in about 15 minutes on my 300T and now it wears beautifully on wrist, just like the 300

  • @markedfortime
    @markedfortime 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lol.."CW, are you listening?"
    I wear my CW Trident Pro 600 GMT frequently and like the look of their name at 9. I have a black dial, so the logo at 12 is hardly noticeable. This one issue is what polarizes collectors over CW. If it were not for this one issue, I think CW would explode in fans. I can use this watch as a torch at night with its lume. It's super comfortable and it gets more wrist time than many in my collection.
    As for this Doxa, I really like the brand, the history and the looks. However, I'm a lume junkie and Doxa is just a major fail. For this price, you'd think they could paint a few more layers of lume in the markers.

      You're confusing the new Sub 300 with the 300T, both are current production models, but the 300 is a homage to the original 1967 Sub 300 with its slim case and domed crystal. The 300T is based on the 1970s model, thicker case and flat crystal.
      They did update the 300T for the 2020 batch, added a helium escape valve (like the older 1200t) but no major changes.
      +All doxa subs in the last 20 yrs have been made by Walca in Switzerland, there's a thread here that shows the exact spot they're produced www.watchuseek.com/threads/doxa-factory.5216714/

    An excellent review. I just acquired a 1200T, and seems like this was the correct decision as I think the value of the 1200T will always be greater than the later 300T due to several factors, which one is of course better build quality. Still, the new Doxa watches are better value than most other watch brands as quality is still very good and prices are competitive.
