One funny thing about Drow is that they unlike any other form of elve have actually pretty high birth rates. Which by DnD elve matephysics means that they either get new elve spirits or that Lolth simply endlessly forces her follower to reincarnate.
Huh I didn’t see that anywhere, definitely higher than typical elves where I think children are more rare. I don’t think drow souls would reincarnate like elves though, they are denied access, at least typically I think
@@The_NaturalOnes I thought that them being barred from Arvendor was the reason why they had such an high birth rate, since their spirits could only go to the demon web of Lolth or back to the prime material. Considering that they are murdering and sacrificing each other all the time and have to wage a permanent war against all the other nasties in the Under Dark and that they are not dying out but growing in power they must have higher than normal birth rates.
@@D--FENS That would explain why Drow don't experience anything while trancing and don't remember their previous lives. On the other hand that would mean that they are in a way not real elves any more. Fun fact the elve spirit thing is the reason why when a bloodline gets any human blood you will only get half-elves no matter how many elves you add to the genepool. For Dwarves it is the opposit, there are no half-dwarves only slightly taller dwarves with one human parent and even the slight height difference disapears after one generation.
Great video, I would’ve liked to see a mention of eilistraee especially when talking about the “good drow” because she seems to be the biggest factor in those drow leaving the under dark to pursue redemption on the surface.
Great video!! The Dark Elf trilogy were some of the best stories I ever read. I’m only seven books into the Legend of Drizz’t. I don’t think the Drow would ever become a threat because they spend so much time plotting and scheming on each other.
Ilythiiri labor with zeal to liberate all life from the drow curse. Knowing all too well what unwise choices result in with unintelligent responses having had to purify their own caste long before.
The Drow are basically the Ultimate losers of DnD rather that accepting that they lost and trying to change stir sit under ground being pissed off at everyone else because they didn’t let them win.
@@The_NaturalOnes the fact that they’re religious tells of events sounds like coping rather that an accurate recording of events is absolutely hilarious
Not a dnd nerd(no offense. much respect). Played tabletop a few times as a ranger around 11 or 12 with a buddies family. His father would dm once a week with his wife and my friend. It was pretty cool. Never played anything like that before or after. Here I am 30yrs later and grabbed bg3..made an innocent looking "female" drow cleric 😂 Well, when I got to the goblin camp and certain dialog options were coming up I started asking questions about drow and looked into the lore. I had no idea how nasty they can be. 😬 Merri is extrodinarily naive for a female drow. Likely because they(adding male genitalia to this makes it even more entertaining against the lore)were an orphan found abandoned at the surface and taken in and sheltered away from society by a high cleric matriarch led family that was undercover in their own right. Merri has yet to confront Kethric or make a decision to give into the parasite. They may utimately give into the parasite as the relationship between Drow and Illithid might be more than skin deep. 😁
Mishmash of 5ed and 4ed lore, little to none from 2ed and 3ed. Talking about 2-3 and you said nothing about drow city states ruled by ghonadaur and vhearaun, how dragonrage mythal killed allmost all drow(drow served dragon during thier wars with gigant) and then creation of evermeet pushed surface drow to Lolth(3ed lore) .Ilithiri brown drow ancestors are 4ed thing, black skin curse was way older than that.
Ya there is a ton on Drow in dnd, unfortunately I didn’t include absolutely everything but would love to revisit this video one day and update with a part 2 that’s a bit more comprehensive . They’ve also changed a lot so sometimes if there’s 3 different origin stories it can be confusing to go through each one
I got into DnD through the War of the Spider Queen books, I play a drow whenever I get the chance.
For me it was the Drizzt series. Then I read war of the spider queen books after. Such a cool race.
Same

I would assume they get their souls the way other non-elf, non-dwarf humanoids do: fresh from the Positive Energy Plane.
@@D--FENS ya that’s probably right, although Lolth has a few tricks up her sleeve

Nice work on the video! Drow are the S tier fantasy race, Eberron's version of drow are worth looking into as well.
Yes I completely agree, awesome story and abilities. Ya I’ll check that out for sure!
We need a huge vid about the abyss and 9 hells! $$$❤

Check out the drow origins in the book Evermeet: Island of Elves by Elaine Cunningham.

Just found your channel watched few vids
Good stuff New sub
Keep up good work
Vault of the Crow and Queen of the Spider Web Pits were great first edition adventures.
Drizzt D'Ourden one of the few good Drow.
How come you have so little views and likes for such quality of videos?
Or read Evermeet.

Yes exactly, they took their consolation prize of ruling the underdark and subjecting all other species down there to their tantrum

Former not latter
Gygax' drow already had the silent tongue, why do you mention it as if it were a 3rd ed innovation?
