It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). She starts low, rising in intensity throughout and finishes in an unexpected and practically operatic style. You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). This is when I realized that Angelina was more than just a little girl who could really sing, she actually is a genius! A little girl, just over 9, has no business even knowing this song, let alone getting it so well that she can dig into the circus act that is the original and pull out a piece of music like that. She did the arrangement (how would you teach someone to do that?) and there wasn't a second of that performance where she isn't pulling some master-level tricks with her astonishing voice. Angelina then takes control of the band and studio to ensure it gets done her way. Angelina is a musical genius and blessed with the most soulful, emotional voice I have ever heard.
As you learned, she was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. To my knowledge, she is the only singer who adapted Hawkin's style of singing in her cover of this song, although she did not need his "over the top" theatrics. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. In this video did you notice:Angelina finishing some notes and handing them to the pianist, who smiled as he read them? I discovered Angelina Jordan within the last year and I was also totally blown away by her incredible talent and her personality and stage presence and the crazy thing is that she just keeps getting better and better as she gets older.

The spell has been cast - Angelina will steal your heart! Angelina studied the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins theatrical version of this and somehow extracted a song from it! The notes at the beginning were her changes to the musical arrangement. This was a one off performance - like a concept performance, later she had a more refined, production version, that she used in a concert in Seoul, South Korea and a TV show in Germany when she was 11 years old.
I enjoyed the reaction! This song floors me and I listen to it at least daily. At age 15 now, she has developed the ability to sing in so many styles, but very recognizable as Angelina. Looking forward to more or you reactions to her.

This is the homage of Angelina to Screamin' Hawkins (the portrait on the candle) and isn't an imitation, rather a tribute to a singer she has much listened to and admires. Not all adults know this great performer, but certainly the only girl of 9 years in the world who knows him and who also thinks of singing his song without any fear, is she. It's incredible that this adaptation is all her own (the sheets written) and that at that age she was able to evaluate and transform, according to her sensitivity, such a particular and powerful song 😊 ❤️ This is Angelina, the incredible magical little girl and this is probably one of the best reinterpretations made by a singer in over 60 years of this song.

To me the last breath lasts over 15 seconds and held the last note with vibrato decrescendo perfectly in tune for 10 seconds and she had just turned 9 !! Norwegian-born Angelina Jordan is a music prodigy she started singing at age of 1.5 years and more than that she started with Billy Holiday Jazz. I've followed her from the age of 5 years here is a few facts I've found mostly from her fans: Angelina speaks and sings in 3 languages, designs her own clothes and has written a best-selling book called "Mellon to jheter" (Between two Hearts) published 2015 Angelina was 9 years old it's a story about why she sings barefoot and like her name she truly is an angel with a heart of gold. Angelina won Norway's got talent when she was 7 years old Her younger years before age 13 she was watched over by her mother (Sara) and her Uncle who just wanted her to grow up normal. Her mother and uncle Turned down almost 90% of all requests for her to perform but even so from age 7 years to 12 years old or so, she has been all over the world (Mother never more than a breath away) Angelina has produced over 130 covers, and she makes all of them her own, all of which will astound you. New people to Angelina get sucked down this road of experience not believing what they're hearing her excellent vocals and unique way of singing, Angelina is a master at music structure her ability to show absolute recognition to a cover while she makes it her own. Angelina writes her own music and produces it. Angelina's mother (Sara) is Norwegian, her father is from Sweeden The artist grandmother on her mother's side (May Zamani) is from Iran and her grandfather (recently deceased) from Japan both grandparents are very involved with Angelina's growing up, Angelina's song a million miles is about losing her grandfather. Shortly after her appearance on Americas Got Talent Angelina was signed by Republic Records and has produced Million Miles, 7th Heaven, Heal The World, shes on her way to the world market which I'm sure she will dominate.
I fully understand your wish to raise Angelina to the sky, but be a little careful in making her a super human. Many comments are based on other comments, and some of them are very excessive. And it is very tempting to add more excessions thus creating something unreal. I am not sure if this creating of a legend is good for her. Let us be a bit more realistic and go to sources we know are reliable when we are writing about her. Several of the "facts" here are not to be trusted. Shall we go through the list? Yes, she can speak several languages (Norwegian, Swedish, Farsi and English) She has learnt some German in school, but I don't know her ability to speak it (she once were interviewed in German, but with few and simple questions and answers). Probably she know a little Japanese, but when she was in Japan, she had to have an interpreter when interviewed on Japanese radio/TV, and all Norwegians read Danish without problems. She usually sings in English, but in Japan she performed a song in Japanese, and by one occasion I have seen her singing in Norwegian. So yes, she probably can sing in most languages, but at least up to now very seldom performs in other languages than English. Her book "Mellom to hjerter"(2015) is not a bestseller. But it is a touching and very well written book with throughout art by her grandmother, recommended for all to read. It is now translated to English and can be bought as an e-book on her official page. - And she is the youngest author ever published in Norway. She did not win the NGT at 7. She is born on January 10th 2006. At the first audition (recorded November 13th 2013) she was 7, but the following performances at NGT took place in 2014 with the final on May 23rd. She thus won at 8! On the AGT she rememberd wrong. After all, the NGT happened almost half a lifetime ago, and there was no time to calculate on that stage. Yes, she is fortunate to have a loving and protecting family around her with her uncle as manager. And I am pretty sure they are still protecting her yet even if she has signed with Republic Records, which obviously has agreed on giving her time to developing herself in relatively peace. Exactly how much Angelina herself is doing on her covers and originals we do not know, and there are very many rumours circulating among her followers. She clearly knows what she wants, but it is reasonable to believe that there are people around her making the arrangements for her which she then probably alters to suit her sense of the music. That is in the least true for her CD/album "It's magic" where others were making all the arrangements. And when she is invited to sing others songs like "Song for A", the songs of Alan Walker, the Quincy Jones performance, and the EDM song by TRXD, "Above the Water", the arrangements are clearly made by others. - But again: Where there are other musicians involved, there is probably a cooperation where Angelina launches her ideas and the arrangers/musicians are following them. There are videos where the backing musicians are more or less destroying the perfomance, and where she evidently has had very little to say about the arrangement. Many of her covers are made to previously made backtracks or with a guitarist more or less playing chords. (Very beautifully, though, and Angelina certainly have set the mood for the guitarist before the recordings). - And she has producers doing what producers do in settings other than the private recordings. She has recently lost both her grandfathers, in 2018 and 2019. She sang "Always on my mind" for her Swedish paternal grandfather and made "Million Miles" for her Japanese maternal grandfather. How involved they were in her growing up, we don't know, but she evidently showed great love to them both through her singing. Yes, Angelina Jordan is an exceptional vocalist and artist, hopefully with a great career to come when the time is ripe. Until then let us keep her on the ground and pray that those around her have the wisdom to know when she is mentally ready to be put out for the whole world to see. Superstars need a solid growth to be strong enough to stand firm in the potential destroying waves of stardom.

Angelina was born with a gift that we are lucky enough to be witness of, she has many natural movements of an adult arranging their music. She was 7 on the first audition of the NGT, but she sang "Summertime" in the final which took place 6 months later, and then she was 8. (At the AGT she remembered wrong when asked about her age.- After all for her it was almost half a life ago.)

A genuine masterpiece performance, great for a professional of any age. From this age onward, her abilities stand up by comparison to any adult professional. Some have niche techniques she doesn't, but very few, and none can do the range of genres as creatively as she does, with such emotional depth and passion. In addition she is a superb lyricist and rapidly developing composer, pianist, guitarist and who knows what else. I think she and her family / team worried that other parents might try to train their kids to do this style and injure their vocal chords, so she has not re-used this style despite its popularity. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). She starts low, rising in intensity throughout and finishes in an unexpected and practically operatic style.
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). Angelina then takes control of the band and studio to ensure it gets done her way. Angelina is a musical genius and blessed with the most soulful, emotional voice I have ever heard.

He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. To my knowledge, she is the only singer who adapted Hawkin's style of singing in her cover of this song, although she did not need his "over the top" theatrics.

I discovered Angelina Jordan within the last year and I was also totally blown away by her incredible talent and her personality and stage presence and the crazy thing is that she just keeps getting better and better as she gets older.

The spell has been cast - Angelina will steal your heart! Angelina studied the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins theatrical version of this and somehow extracted a song from it! The notes at the beginning were her changes to the musical arrangement. This was a one off performance - like a concept performance, later she had a more refined, production version, that she used in a concert in Seoul, South Korea and a TV show in Germany when she was 11 years old.

This is the homage of Angelina to Screamin' Hawkins (the portrait on the candle) and isn't an imitation, rather a tribute to a singer she has much listened to and admires. Not all adults know this great performer, but certainly the only girl of 9 years in the world who knows him and who also thinks of singing his song without any fear, is she. GREAT REACTION!!! You caught all the little things she did. The growl (in tune) the arrangement, the timing, the vibrato. To me the last breath lasts over 15 seconds and held the last note with vibrato decrescendo perfectly in tune for 10 seconds and she had just turned 9 !! Norwegian-born Angelina Jordan is a music prodigy she started singing at age of 1.5 years and more than that she started with Billy Holiday Jazz. I've followed her from the age of 5 years here is a few facts I've found mostly from her fans: Angelina speaks and sings in 3 languages, designs her own clothes and has written a best-selling book called "Mellon to jheter" (Between two Hearts) published 2015 Angelina was 9 years old it's a story about why she sings barefoot and like her name she truly is an angel with a heart of gold. Angelina won Norway's got talent when she was 7 years old Her younger years before age 13 she was watched over by her mother (Sara) and her Uncle who just wanted her to grow up normal. Her mother and uncle Turned down almost 90% of all requests for her to perform but even so from age 7 years to 12 years old or so, she has been all over the world (Mother never more than a breath away) Angelina has produced over 130 covers, and she makes all of them her own, all of which will astound you. New people to Angelina get sucked down this road of experience not believing what they're hearing her excellent vocals and unique way of singing, Angelina is a master at music structure her ability to show absolute recognition to a cover while she makes it her own. Angelina writes her own music and produces it. Angelina's mother (Sara) is Norwegian, her father is from Sweeden The artist grandmother on her mother's side (May Zamani) is from Iran and her grandfather (recently deceased) from Japan both grandparents are very involved with Angelina's growing up, Angelina's song a million miles is about losing her grandfather. I fully understand your wish to raise Angelina to the sky, but be a little careful in making her a super human. Many comments are based on other comments, and some of them are very excessive. And it is very tempting to add more excessions thus creating something unreal. I am not sure if this creating of a legend is good for her. Let us be a bit more realistic and go to sources we know are reliable when we are writing about her. Several of the "facts" here are not to be trusted. Shall we go through the list?
Yes, she can speak several languages (Norwegian, Swedish, Farsi and English) She has learnt some German in school, but I don't know her ability to speak it (she once were interviewed in German, but with few and simple questions and answers). Probably she know a little Japanese, but when she was in Japan, she had to have an interpreter when interviewed on Japanese radio/TV, and all Norwegians read Danish without problems.
She usually sings in English, but in Japan she performed a song in Japanese, and by one occasion I have seen her singing in Norwegian. So yes, she probably can sing in most languages, but at least up to now very seldom performs in other languages than English.
Her book "Mellom to hjerter"(2015) is not a bestseller. But it is a touching and very well written book with throughout art by her grandmother, recommended for all to read. It is now translated to English and can be bought as an e-book on her official page. - And she is the youngest author ever published in Norway.
She did not win the NGT at 7. She is born on January 10th 2006. At the first audition (recorded November 13th 2013) she was 7, but the following performances at NGT took place in 2014 with the final on May 23rd. She thus won at 8! On the AGT she rememberd wrong. After all, the NGT happened almost half a lifetime ago, and there was no time to calculate on that stage.
Yes, she is fortunate to have a loving and protecting family around her with her uncle as manager. And I am pretty sure they are still protecting her yet even if she has signed with Republic Records, which obviously has agreed on giving her time to developing herself in relatively peace.
Exactly how much Angelina herself is doing on her covers and originals we do not know, and there are very many rumours circulating among her followers. She clearly knows what she wants, but it is reasonable to believe that there are people around her making the arrangements for her which she then probably alters to suit her sense of the music. That is in the least true for her CD/album "It's magic" where others were making all the arrangements. And when she is invited to sing others songs like "Song for A", the songs of Alan Walker, the Quincy Jones performance, and the EDM song by TRXD, "Above the Water", the arrangements are clearly made by others. - But again: Where there are other musicians involved, there is probably a cooperation where Angelina launches her ideas and the arrangers/musicians are following them. There are videos where the backing musicians are more or less destroying the perfomance, and where she evidently has had very little to say about the arrangement. Many of her covers are made to previously made backtracks or with a guitarist more or less playing chords. (Very beautifully, though, and Angelina certainly have set the mood for the guitarist before the recordings). - And she has producers doing what producers do in settings other than the private recordings.
She has recently lost both her grandfathers, in 2018 and 2019. She sang "Always on my mind" for her Swedish paternal grandfather and made "Million Miles" for her Japanese maternal grandfather. How involved they were in her growing up, we don't know, but she evidently showed great love to them both through her singing.
Yes, Angelina Jordan is an exceptional vocalist and artist, hopefully with a great career to come when the time is ripe. Until then let us keep her on the ground and pray that those around her have the wisdom to know when she is mentally ready to be put out for the whole world to see. Superstars need a solid growth to be strong enough to stand firm in the potential destroying waves of stardom.

A genuine masterpiece performance, great for a professional of any age. From this age onward, her abilities stand up by comparison to any adult professional. Some have niche techniques she doesn't, but very few, and none can do the range of genres as creatively as she does, with such emotional depth and passion. In addition she is a superb lyricist and rapidly developing composer, pianist, guitarist and who knows what else.
I think she and her family / team worried that other parents might try to train their kids to do this style and injure their vocal chords, so she has not re-used this style despite its popularity.

Angelina has amazing flexibility as can be witnessed by the following two songs: Shield (she wrote as a 12-year old. Performed on Scandinavian talk show Skavlan. In the interview before Angelina sung, she said that when she sings she goes into an endless other world that is full of happiness. Angelina said the song's sound was inspired by the Bond films. To show the incredible cross genre abilities Angelina has, when 13-years old she collaborated with the Norwegian EDM (Electronic Dance Music) duo TRXD, and recorded the vocals for the song Above The Water.
