  • We all know that Angelina Jordan is an incredible talent, but in this reaction video, watch her take it up a notch as she channels the greats while singing 'I Put A Spell On You'. Join me as I react to this incredible performance and share my thoughts!
I make it clear that I'm not a fan of child performers but Angelina has won me over. She seems to be very special and it's clear to me that she is channeling.
I had a similar reaction several years ago when I stumbled on Grace VanderWaal's AGT audition. A soulful voice and tons of talent bursting from a child.

I don’t believe she has ever sounded like a child. Your guess is as good as anyone else’s as to how she had this talent at such a young age. Read all the comments, keep reacting to her, and you’ll enjoy an amazing yet unexplainable journey.

    *Why Angelina always performs barefoot*
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better.
Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.

Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial

    - The Barefoot Princess -
(From her book, television and radio interviews, and podcasts made between 2014-2015. Includes excerpts from her diary made that day in 2012.)
Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz," amongst many other names. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina says that she really loved her shoes, as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them. But she saw the other little girl’s need for them, which outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them.
Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle, but the ruins of a building next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world, "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true, you have to remember the poor children without shoes; and I will pray for you Angelina.” Later that day, 6 y/o Angelina wrote in her diary, "The world is very strange. Right then and there, I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.”
From that point on, Angelina takes off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world, who are orphaned, hungry, or in want of even basic clothing. In 2015, at the age of 9, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter, as everyone continued to ask why she sang barefoot. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, created the artwork for the book. So at 9, Angelina Jordan became the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina has performed alongside many other artists, raising attention and helping to raise over 21 million euros and millions of dollars for children in need.

She is very well protected and her AJ childhood was Sara main priority. As far as musical drive its all Angelina. Yes Jazz was played in the house but it was AJ who fell in love with it and all the old greats.

Screamin' Jay Hawkins would definitely approve of this cover of his classic song.

Angelina Jordan is 17 years Old. She sang yesterday in Paris at the ceremony - FIFA Football Awards 2022.
A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice.
She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. In this video did you notice:Angelina finishing some notes and handing them to the pianist, who smiled as he read them? They were her wishes (instructions) to the band how she wished therm to play the music. In the band, she was called a boss.
Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on TH-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz.
Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.

At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on TH-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs. At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a TH-cam video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. Also at age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed Frank Sinatra “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on TH-cam. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On TH-cam, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram. Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022. Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be. I encourage others to use this biography to help educate others about the love, empathy, magic and beauty that is Angelina Jordan Astar and her unique music.

That look in your eyes when you realized, "This girl has been her before..."
I like to imagine Ella, Billie Holiday, Eretha, James Brown, Frank, etc...all the greats past sitting around a campfire with AJ, and they are just having a great time talking about music and performance, shaping stories. Then AJ gets the call, and she is back here on this planet, but a part of all of them came with her.

Nice reaction, Jennifer. One very important thing to remember about Angelina is that she's singing because she loves to sing. She has said that singing is as important as breathing to her. Nobody is, or has been, pushing her to perform.
Why does she perform barefoot? The short answer is that she does it to remind herself that there are needy children who don't have shoes. There is a longer answer in the book she got published when she was nine, making her Norway's youngest author. The book is absolutely worth reading. It brings tears to my eyes every time I reread it.
A short explanation is that when she was six years old, she was in the middle east with her mother and grandmother and happened across a girl beside the street with a bathroom scale who was weighing people to get a little money from them. Angelina struck up a conversation with the girl and found out the girl was a homeless orphan who was caring for her siblings. It was cold outside and Angelina noticed the girl was barefoot and had scars on her feet. Unprompted, Angelina took off her own shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl said she would pray for Angelina every day. Angelina made a commitment to always perform barefoot until all the children in the world had shoes and clothes.
She has since always performed barefoot in public. She was barefoot when she sang at the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony outside in December in Norway. She has performed barefoot for several heads of state and on possibly one of the biggest stages in the world she was barefoot on America's Got Talent. A six year old made a promise and she's still honoring it at 17.

Though she is honouring Screaming Jay Hawkins whose picture is on the candle this is not a straight cover, it's an amalgamation of several covers. She spent a great deal of time being looked after by her grandma who is a famous poet and painter. Also a child prodigy in her own right. She liked to have jazz playing as she worked. So you are right. Angelina heard jazz from the cradle but was born with perfect pitch. There is a clip of her at age 1 and1/2, with a mike. That is really shocking. It's a clip on an interview after her audition at 7 years old on NORWAYS GOT TALENT aired.

Norwegian born Angelina Jordan began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of only 8, singing old time classics from Billie Holliday and George Gershwin, and became the youngest ever vocalist to win an international Got Talent Show! Her performance at 9 years old of Screamin Jay Hawkins, I Put a Spell on You is considered one of the finest recordings ever of a 9-year-old vocalist! Angelina also went viral on America's Got Talent the champions in 2020 with her unique versions of Bohemian Rhapsody and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Angelina sings in English which unbelievably is her third language! She is a true prodigy.
She is now 17, and has recorded a huge library of songs, including covers and several originals. A major attraction to Angelina's music is the emotion and attitude she conveys, although she has not experienced the life events! She is known as the barefoot princess of 1,000 voices as she can adjust her tone, style, and register for any song or genre. She was signed by Republic Records almost two years ago. She is not widely promoted yet, however, as her family has decided to wait until she graduates school, so she has a normal childhood.
Here is a link from ages 6 to 17 of 106 Angelina chronological TH-cam performances with five originals.

Why does Angelina sing barefoot? The answer may bring a tear to your eye. It is related to a promise she made to herself and to the world when she was only 6 years old. She was traveling in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own favorite shoes. Angelina ask the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and she said a doctor, but she could not because she had to take care of her siblings. She asked Angelina the same question and Angelina said I want to sing for the world. The young girl said she would pray for Angelina. Since then, Angelia has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She even donated her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing an emotional bond.
Angelina captures hearts because she is humble and has compassion for humanity. Her stated goal from childhood was to sing for the world and spread love and peace. I trust this will cause you to embrace her as millions of others have, and that you will continue down the rabbit hole from which you will not want to escape. Peace and love.

Thank you for continuing to discover Angelina. She is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on TH-cam, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener.
Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed.
    (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
    (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
    (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
    (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
    (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
    (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted.
    (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song.
    (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time.
    (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word
    (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
    (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying.
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Angelina is channelling the original artist, Screaming Jay Hawkins, who was a pretty wild character, but she was doing it in her own unique way. It's tempting to think she must have been driven by ambitious parents, but the opposite is the case. She binge-watched people like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald on TH-cam and badgered her family to let her go on Norway's Got Talent, which she eventually did - and won at age 8. There's a fascinating story about why she performs barefoot, but I'll let other 'angels' tell you about that. Glad you liked the song!

I wouldn’t say that Angelina was “channeling” here, more that she was “interpreting” Screaming Jay Hawkins. At 7 years, yeah, I’d say she was channeling Billie Holliday when she did “Gloomy Sunday”. But ever since she turned 8, Angelia became her own artist. She can made her voice do whatever she wants. Can she sound like Adele? Easily! Same with Amy Winehouse. But she adds her own soul, richness and depth that is unmistakenly “Angelina”.

Absolutely phenomenal performance from a musical genius, and Angelina actually arranges this herself paying tribute to the original artist Screaming J Hawkins a blues musician from the 1950s, Angelina is the boss and is commanding the performance, Angelina barefoot story, Angelina was traveling in the Middle East with family her Grandmother is from Iran 🇮🇷,Angelina met a poor girl by the road side the girl had a set of scales and was weighing people for money,Angelina befriend the girl who was the same age both 6 years old, the poor girl had scars on her bare feet, after speaking for a while Angelina gave the her own shoes, and always performs barefoot to remember all the children less fortunate, Angelina has raised millions for environmental causes and children’s charities, she is now 17 years old and still stays true to herself performing barefoot, great reaction thanks 🙏

She was actually 9 years 1 month old when the ‘video’ was recorded. The ‘audio’ must have been recorded/edited before that, but not known how much earlier. So it’s likely she was preparing for this while she was still 8. Incredible.

The was a cover of Screaming Jay Hawkins’ The candle she was holding at the beginning has his face it. She was 9 years old when this was recorded. There is an wonderful story as to why she performs barefoot. She befriended a young shoeless girl, when she was six. She wrote a book, between two hearts, about the experience, and became the youngest published author in Norway’s history, at the age of nine. She gave this girl her shoes and vowed to always perform barefoot as long as there that don’t have shoes. Please note, she made her public performance debut when she was 7, by completing on Norways Got Talent. She won the event and donated the winnings the children’s charity. She is not your average talented child singer. Yes she has been exposed to many of the greats starting from the beginning of life. The earliest recording of her singing was when she was 18 months. This is her passion and she has worked very hard to perfect her craft. She is self taught, does her own arrangements, choose the songs she sings, she knows what she wants and is very courteous when directing the musicians as to what she wants. The is true whether it’s one or an orchestra. To date she has released 5 originals, all wonderful. She tuned 17, on January 10, 2023. The list goes on but these are some highlights of her approximately 10 year career. I have no question that her career will take of like a shuttle launch, shortly after she graduates high school this year. Her fans are called Angels. It sounds like after hearing this performance you will be one also, welcome to the amazing world of Angelina Jordan. Is a vast world and there is beauty at every turn. Welcome❤

Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with the same band at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and gives them some instructions. There are English subtitles as the spoken language is Norwegian: th-cam.com/video/SAkZDAXJA4E/w-d-xo.html

She calls Quincy her closest friend in the business. He invited her to sing that song for his 85th birthday bash ay The O2 Arena in London. He has called her the best vocalist since Michael Jackson. She was 12 when she sang there. I'll give you the link to her rehearsal with the orchestra.

I've been told she is currently learning Spanish.

Angelina makes you rethink what is possible and challenges any previous thoughts you have had concerning child vocalists. It is NOT just her incredible vocal abilities and vocal choices she makes BUT she creates the arrangement (can see her writing at the start of the video) for each song she sings. The musicians who worked with her called her "the boss" and said she is among the most talented musicians they have ever worked with.

This is her version of the one done by Screaming Jay Hawkins. She’s 9 years old. There is a video of her singing at the age of one and a half. Funny. Her first recording in a studio at the age of six called “I, Who Have Nothing” was impressive. She performs barefoot. This is explained in her book, “Between Two Hearts” which she wrote, illustrated by her grandmother Meri. Yes, Angelina is the youngest published author in Norway.

It's best to ignore Angelina's age when you listen to her. Some people say "at this age...", but the truth is she's perhaps the best jazz vocalist on the planet at ANY age (even here, when she was 9). No adult could sing a cover better than AJ sang this. So, with Angelina, you can relax about not liking child singers -- because she's never really been one. Regarding her bare feet: I commend you to Andy Schnell's first comment below (not the one you replied to). Angelina is not just choosing to be "grounded" while she sings; it's a reflection of her character.

Greetings from Scotland! "Who is this child channelling?" Well that would be all the greatest Jazz singers of her Grandmothers day! Mery Zamani is a very respected Iranian artist - and one of AJ's Grandmothers! She has always had a passion for Jazz music and AJ listened to it constantly when she was with her. In 2015 (when she was 9yo, around the same time as this video) AJ published a book called "Mellom to hjerter" (Between Two Hearts). Her grandmother Mery, illustrated it for AJ. The book tells the story of the 6yo AJ meeting a poor motherless girl in the Middle East who was barefoot, because she had no shoes. AJ and the girl spoke at length, and as she departed. she took off her shoes and gave them to the girl! The girl promised to pray for AJ so that she would fulfil her dream to become a successful singer. AJ says the book is based on a real story and she says this is the reason *she always performs barefoot!* She insists that she will do this until all the children of the world have shoes!
It's not just a book or a story, AJ has raised tens of millions for children and families in need all over the world! Pretty special young lady eh?

She was able to take the Screamin' Jay Hawkins original & turn it into to an actual jazz song that we can all enjoy. I strongly believe that Angelina has the GOD given gifts of not only a beautiful voice, but also the innate ability to emote the essence of each song she sings direct to our hearts & minds to also allow us to deeply FEEL her music as it flows through her. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point.
Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! And she is just 17 years old... That is unfathomable. She has already established her proficiency and incredible work ethic in this endeavor guided by an incredible family and professional support now surrounding her.
You just watched a Masterpiece! Destined to go down in Music History as the best performance by a 9 yr old, Period! Past, present & dare I say Future! I'd like to see anyone, young or old who can do a cover of this & with the justice it deserves as Angelina has done on every cover she does. ♥👣👸🏻

Angelina's grandmother exposed her to a lot of jazz music from a very early age. However, by the time she was 3 years old she would start her own journey scouring though TH-cam for all of the jazz greats. At age 3, she also told her mother that she wanted to sing for Simon Cowell on that music show and 10 years later Angelina made that dream come true by delivering her own composition of Queen's classic, Bohemian Rhapsody; truly a must see masterpiece. th-cam.com/video/D7SE6c1Htds/w-d-xo.html
I know that you're not too big on listening to child singers but she has blessed us with numerous post on TH-cam of her performances throughout her development over the years for us to witness the evolution of a jazz great. There are over 200 post from the last ten years from the time she first stepped on to the stage for Norways Got Talent to a young 17 year old expecting to put out her first record release this year for Republic Records.

I apologize to all those that follow Angelina's "Spell on You" reactions, but I have tirelessly played this video maybe a couple hundred times and am still dumbfounded by the performance and delighted by the shocked reactors. I cut and paste this following reply all the time now because it gets tiring typing it out so often .... so, again, I apologize, but it must be done:
Angelina wrote an incredibly emotional song called "Million Miles" in memory of her beloved grandfather who had just passed away (at that time). She was 13/14 years old. She recorded it later as her first single for her new label, Republic Records.
Do a reaction to the black and white live studio version. It is one of three companion videos. The others are the actual official Republic video music release and a lyrics version. I highly recommend doing a reaction to the lyrics version second. It is the same recording as the official version but has graphics done by her grandmother, a noteworthy Iranian artist. With these videos, she has produced a quite stunning beginning of her career with Republic. Also, the pianist in the live studio video is a very high up Republic executive.
Angelina commented that when she was in the studio doing the song she cried throughout the session. You can hear and see the pain she feels for her loss when you watch the live studio set. She said she wanted the song to be for anyone that had such a loss. With consideration to that background to her song, you will get as emotional as she was when she recorded it. She has this magical vocal power that draws you into this other dimension.
She has always put her soul and emotions into her works. She arranges most all her music, as she has been doing since she began performing over the past ten plus years.

  • @kenscott8966
    @kenscott8966 ปีที่แล้ว +13

It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize (it is not channeling) how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! Maybe she is the Mozart of her day. Maybe she is like the world's sweetest glacier, reforming the musical landscape of whatever she touches. Wait until you figure out why she performs barefoot.
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). Brilliant reaction. If you had any doubts before, Angelina would most certainly acknowledge you as one of her "angels."
Angelina began teaching herself to sing at around 2-3 years old. With records and TH-cam, she listened to countless hours of Billie Holiday, Etta James, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, along with more recent greats, such as Amy Winehouse and Adele, to name a few. .

Thank you for a great reaction to our young music genius Angelina, you have a new subscriber Jennifer. Just a couple months into her 9th Birthday Angelina created a masterpiece of music here that will stand the test of time. One music teacher/vocal coach proclaimed that this performance here should be studied in music schools when studying or even trying to understand child singers such as Angelina. I am sure you will get plenty of information on why she performs barefooted and that alone will be an insight to why she is so beloved by her fanbase. Not only one of the most incredibly talented vocalist to grace this planet in many decades but also the most humble, caring, sweet, classy, eloquent human beings on the planet as well. Cheers Jennifer, stay well.

I liked your attempts at rationalizing how she came to sing so well. Other reactors could only suggest channeling, but we know that's irrational. She just always liked singing and first attempted a tiny bit of it at age 1. You may be right when you say the Mom must've surrounded her with music. That may have enhanced an innate love for music and inspired her drive to sing. Plus, she had the voice!

Some would say she is channeling Screaming J Hawkins, the original artist, but she is channeling Ella Fitzgerald, who the said could sing the phone book, and if you remember she sang “A Tisket A Tasket”, and she also scatted which there are no words only sounds that truly made her another instrument in the band, Angelina has this talent too, they say she sounds like Billie Holliday, but she is smoother, Amy Winehouse, but she is smoother, Nina Simone, but she is smoother, Etta James, but she is smoother, Elvis, she matches but amplified, especially in the emotion department, and even Frank Sinatra, she out smooths the old smoothie himself, and all that is because she went to school on Ella Fitzgerald.
Don’t take my word for it, listen to the songs like “Summertime” and you will hear it for yourself.

No shoes? To remember a shoeless child in the middle east. Angelina gave the girl her shoes and performs barefoot to remember the poor children around the world.
She is Norwegian, speaks several languages, does most of her own arrangements and the more than 180 covers she has performed in her 17 years are judged by many to be better than the originals.
HERE IS ONE OF IF NOT HER EARLIEST RECORDING BOOTH VISITS AT SIX (6),

All your viewers should support you for what you do as you have requested. Please also help boost the analytics for Angelina and each aspiring artist you feature. I suggest posting links to their original video and their TH-cam channels (Angelina has two channels, Official and Cover) in the description, if you have not already done so. Most importantly, EDUCATE fans by verbally encouraging them to use those links to watch, like and comment on the original video, and to subscribe to her official channels. I recommend doing the same for your own video and channel as you both deserve equal recognition. I am confident your channel will gain many more subscribers from fan loyalty, by showing you are genuine, and proud to help incredibly deserving artists like Angelina.

She is definitely channeling original artist and songwriter Screamin Jay Hawkins. It’s very apparent when you watch his video from an appearance on a late night talk show. Many aspects of that performance are found in her performance. His was very theatrical. Hers a jazz/blues masterpiece. But you will notice similarities in word pronunciation. The hey hey hey Watch out! Line. The vocalization section near the end. I love how she honors him at the start with the candle. And then a look to the heavens before she starts singing

I don't believe it has anything to do with channeling..Angelina is an artist and delivers her different take on this song...as she does it in her other performances. She is unique, talented and she is always honors and respects original.

@@toddstacey6385 okay maybe channeling isn’t the best term. Another comment said absorbing the originals. I like that. I think she was drawn from a young age to listen to all these classics singers and then the gift to be able to emulate what she heard. And as she aged she adds herself into it
