If this Suzuki comes to the USA, Jeep/Chrysler will go out of business. A capable little off roading and city suv that’s good on gas and reliable. #facts
The monopoly scammers of Chrysler fiat is pushing hard to keep Suzuki away from us here in the states, sadly we don't have many options to have this great truck and the legendary Toyota fj series that sells in Australia Europe and South America shame on these crooks blocking the market
General George S. Patton Jr., Fiat has a "past" with Fiat. It resulted in a very nice (and totally marketed wrong) mini crossover named Fiat Sedici/Suzuki SX-4. There was a bit of bad blood between the marques and I think that would be the reason they wouldn't be supportive of them here.
This review has held up well. I got my Jimny in white, and love it. The Jimny steering is solid off road and I don't have a problem with it on the bitumen. The short wheel base makes it very nimble so I think Suzuki got the steering right. It's just great on the beach, I'm having a lot of fun with it.
The best looking car I have ever seen in beige!! Sean, I think that's the best Jimny review I have seen to date. Really enjoyed your informative review. Top work. Cheers.
I’ve had two in the past, and I’m such a fan of them. This one is breaking my heart; not because I dislike it, but because I ADORE it, and I can’t have one yet. Stunning car.
I had a 1990 model in Australia, bought it new for AUD13K and it was the best car I ever had. It never had a service in 10 years, only oil changed annually, and never skipped a beat the whole time. On the 10th year the battery went and the mechanic who replaced it said only the Japanese would make a Battery that lasted 10yrs, and it was the size of a motorbike battery! It handled off road better than all my mates Land-cruisers, Jeeps and Rovers, I could get into much tighter tracks then them and it just skipped over mud because is so light. Cant wait to see the new model here, although seems like its going to price itself out of the market now.
While i think your jeep maitainance stinks i have to agree with you on battery.. my original battery from factory gave up after 10years and that is only becayse i managed to discharge it by accident by a 120 w led light bar which got turned on at a music festival while i slept.. got jump started alright but it just would not take full charge after that.. i hope the new battery last half as long again..
Really brilliant replacer for the old jimny which was also great. That ESP will also act as a diff lock for both axles, and this is the best improvement.
I had a '95 year model. I loved that car so much it was painful to say goodbye. In fact I still carry a picture of it in my pocket. So harsh so uncomfortable yes it wasn't fast as well but it was such a delight to use off road. The new one resembles of the old one I used more than it does for the G wagen. Even the dials are almost the same. I can't wait to see the new one.
Good review and refreshing to hear a reviewer to see the car for what it is. I love it for the fact it's different from the same old boxes of today and has character - something sadly missing in so many modern cars
rabit818 Exactly. Suzuki also has some other unique cars. For someone who wants a vehicle that reminds them of the old CJ. Suzuki should tour some vehicles around the country asking the public about it. Also, if Mahindra can sell the Jeepish Roxor off to a good start, the Jimny would likely have a good start here as well.

I live in NZ, where these little beasties have been legendary ever since the little three-cylinder, nine hundred and something cc SJ410 back in the eighties. I had a clapped out, 1988, SJ412 ragtop which I bought in 1996 and then spent a couple of months rebuilding the engine and gearbox. I had more fun in that than in any car I’ve owned in 57 years of driving. It really could go anywhere. IMO, these Suzis are the ultimate off-roader. You should have seen it climbing over boulders on our local beach. Neither a SWB Landie nor a Jeep were able to make it across, while the Suzi’s smaller footprint made it able to perch on rocks that they both bottomed out on. Also, we once rescued a Landcruiser with an 18 ft boat behind it, which had sunk up to its axles in sand when a wave washed under it as they were recovering their boat. I had an elastic “Snatchstrap” and we popped that rig out, no problem. Earned ourselves a big crayfish and a snapper from some very relieved fishermen, who couldn’t believe that our little “toy” was so capable. Happy days.
I started on an LJ80 in 1981 when living in Peru, then when back in UK a couple of SJ410s , then SJ413s (inc long wheel base), then a couple of Jimnys. All basically built on the same platform. In recent years have moved onto Grand Vitara then the new Vitara, but this little diamond will definitely tempt me back to my roots....small and very capable off roader that can handle anything. Who cares about speed and handling! I used to love that steering. Great review, just a shame they are not producing in greater numbers.
Yep, I also had an SJ years back , loved the quirkiness and bought a Jimny in 99......Great fun, but Unfortunately it was the soft top version which was a bit of a pain in the butt if you wanted to use the boot ..So, after 3 years I traded it in for a Grand Vitara ….. Liked that as well but the dealership were a pain ,so, I changed brands . .. I do far more road use than off road and I recently purchased a Dacia Duster Mk2 and that is excellent... Huge compared to the Suzuki , but capable off road … Massive boot space and really comfortable ride … Uses mostly old , tried & tested Renault mechanicals so good reliability …. And , they start from £10,000 !.... Mine was the next spec up (Essential) and £11,800 … Fantastic value for money but , a 4 month waiting time from ordering as every vehicle built is sold and built to the req'd spec.
The steering "vagueness whilst on-road is a design feature. It's apparent free-play will absorb lateral wheel shimmy caused by rolling over rough ground, this will effectively protect the driver from sudden steering wheel kick-back. You will find this, to a more or lesser degree, on all proper off-roader's.

Im driving a Duster for two years now, but man, I miss my good old Suzuki Samuraï ... It wasnt perfect but the fancy ! I plan to go back to Suzuki again and buy a pearl white Jimny. First sell my Black Touch Duster!
I bought a 2016 Jimny Sierra and absolutely love it, and at that point decided the next car I would be purchasing would be an EV. But oooh, I need to upgrade now! If Suzuki are smart and release this Jimny with an EV option they'd take over the world!
Back in the early 1990’s I always wanted a Daihatsu sportrack but never got one. This is the first car since then that has the same appeal. It really looks the part and walks the walk.
I bought an 88.5 Samurai brand new for $7500, when they were trying to ban them here in the states. It was a lot of fun. But I eventually upgraded to a Wrangler. This thing just looks like a modern day version with refinement and upgrades.
JLR ended production of the Defender in January 2016, and promised a replacement. The date of presenting the replacement is kept pushing forward, and potential buyres are constantly teased with pictures of concepts and mules. I personally don't believe that there will be a true Defender replacement, but just another up-market and very pricey vehicle, bursting with electronic gizmos. It will be some kind of 4x4, but not the simple truck that it was. I've ordered another simple 4x4 vehicle. Google for UAZ Bukhanka. Ticks all my boxes!
@@Tillerman56 Bukhanka's a piece of crap quality wise. They come rusty righ out of the plant, no sh*t! If u'r looking for a cheap 4x4 truck with decent offroad capabilities and don't mind it being russian-made, search for 'соболь 4х4'. It's based on the chassis of the legendary GAZ-66, though the design is not that oldschool.
The original Suzuki SJ's (pre Jimny) was designed and built in Spain alongside the Santana, hence the ladder chassis and the change lever for the transfer box, plus steering system for the 4x4 system. Santana was a Landrover sub company and they were built virtually side by side in the same factory. I have owned SJ's and now Jimny's since 1976 and can beat most 4x4's. Sadly Jimny's are not so good on fuel, but as the video states, they are high revving engines. Bottom line is that they are pretty indestructible, especially as they have now removed the 'push button' H/L change for a proper lever.
Not sure turbocharging would work because what about the cooling at walking pace which is quite possible offroad? And the typical low rpm would struggle to give any usable boost. N/a makes more sense. The way you describe the drive is precisely why I want one. Way more entertaining than the anodyne premium brands.
Suzuki said turbocharging wouldn't work. A shame, because it would be a better road car, but not many people buying one will really care. They'll just be happy to own one.
Is a valid point re the 660cc turbocharged unit. I wonder if it has the same crawling modes as the 1.5. Surely a 0.66 off boost will provide too little torque. Perhaps more revs and clutch slip are required.
My dealer was allocated 2 for Q1’19 and happy to say I managed to bag one of them. The local dealer is doing an up-spec version with all sorts of bits on it that pushes the price to near £21k...will get to see the detail on Friday.
I'd say, this is what we need in this age of ultra fastness..Something that is a bit slow and gives you time to ponder the manic obsession for speed, love for bling-bling over practicality. Love this cute and unpretentious SUV with a layman's personality!!!
The Romanian ARO 244 was the real G and came out before Gwagon. Capitalism came, all factories were sold for pennies to foreigners and then made bankrupted to be sold for scrap metal 1000 times more than they were bought. Oh well:/ We still got Dacia but owned by Renault.
@@CHMernerner Thanks for the input. We are living in a really messed up world by huge corporations and multi national companies and things run by certain families. It wasnt a surprise all the comunist countries fell one after another. I was 10 when "capitalism" made its way to Romania. Not many know we were debt free at that time and not oweing anything to IMF like many countries these day. I could go on and on but lets just enjoy this awesome video about Jimny:D Buy now if you can. It will only increase in value:D
We bought a Suzuki Jimny Auto 2001 when we lived in rural Aberdeenshire. Off road, snow and mud no problem. On road O.K. even for 360 miles a day but not a Motorway stormer.
Owned what we called a Suzuki Samurai 4X4 here in Canada & was the best car I've ever owned, just bullet proof... hope the new product are still built as tough ;-)
Great review Sean! This little SUV has been getting excellent reviews and 10k customers signing up, that's awesome! Suzuki if your watching these reviews and reading these comments... please bring this vehicle to North America!! I know the Canadian market would love it.. I've got my chequebook out!
@@thomaschristopherwhite9043 precisely. They complain about the gt86 not having enough power, the sti and many more Japanese cars. This would surely not sell that well here in the US. For one it doesn't have a big block and it doesn't have enough power
@@awenindoe there's plenty of tiny vehicles that do well over here. Including the Suzuki samari from the 80s which was basically an older version of this. It definitely would need to be directed at the younger crowd. But I don't think they'd do bad at all over here in the states.
Update, dealer has communicated that "medium grey, kinetic yellow and black" due to paint problems at the factory and that I could still have the flat-grey one ordered if I wait till September! The car was due to be delivered in the next 10 days so there seems to be a lack of communication going on (how long does a car take to get onto a ship and sail to Grimsby) at this late stage, only option left was to switch to Metallic Silver and stump up an extra £495 so the colour of choice is no more. Seems they have substituted Silver cars for the unavailable colours but would have done that weeks ago. Noticed on the Suzuki configurator that Jungle Green has disappeared as well as Medium Grey and that the list price has jumped +£500 in the last few days. So effectively on the plus side the switch to metallic has not really cost me anything and prevented a +9 month wait if this revised one turns up as promised.

@@graemepilkington3080 they do this for customers who are willing to pay more for their preferred colour and an earlier delivery. Let's say you have a couple extra hundred and you want the car real bad. You offer the dealer that and he delays another customers car to deliver it to you. Cha Ching!
@@graemepilkington3080 This shit confuses the feck outta me. Suzuki has many many comm's problems. For example, dealers have given me 2 different time frames on availability. One said 8 months and another says 5. The manual describes two different functions in vague language (dual sensor brake support vs dual camera brake support)??. Accessories are offered which give red mud flaps for the SZ5 and black for the SZ4 - WHY NOT COLOUR CHOICE FOR BOTH!. And accessories for one, is not offered for the other, which seems ridiculous, also the green would be awesome, but that has vanished from the main site. This colour thing you mention...WTF?? Paint problems on a hot selling car such as this?? GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER SUZUKI. I will be in a position to buy this car within 5 months, but i have no clue as to whether i will be able to obtain one by that time, and the dealers are clueless too. I love this motor, but the inconstancy and guess work involved is off-putting. Also why the frick has the auto only got 4 ratio's?? And no reviews of the auto models are available. Venting complete ;-) Best of luck with your motor, im sure you'll love it. Andy.
I was car shopping a few weeks ago, I was looking into a compact suv-ish car... went to Honda to test drive the CRV, went to Toyota to test drive the Rav4... MAN were those vehicles boring... In Canada here we don't have the Jimny, I bet that little car is fun as hell to drive.
I see that they've added lots of nive touches but nothing compares to the rugged Suzuki's of the 80s and 90s definitely a worthy continuation of the small 4x4 into a more modern style
Refreshing review. I like this new approach.Opinion straight from the heart and not ashamed or scared to say so. Great. Keep up your good work. No diplomatic mushy talk. Fabulous!!! Whats surprising is everyone is mad about the car but sadly no word for the good review.
I feel they slightly missed a trick with re doing the Jimny. Engine should've been the booster jet, 6 speed gearbox a decent auto, 5 star ENCAP, be able to hit 45mpg, possibly be a little bit longer with 5 doors and maybe not have the ladder frame (they could still have brilliant offroad performance with a more road tuned chassis).
The Jimny is perfect if you live in the country! It is like a supermini for the countryside where roads are rough and there is always the chance you might have snowdrifts across the road in the winter.
As soon as it was launched , for me it was love at first sight! i never felt anything like it for a car! I mean it is just a car! I have a mini clubman which I love but the rent was almost over. So i was thinking to go to Suzuki even if I was aware the waiting list was sooooo long , actually almost 24 months now! I had a chat with the owner and I said can we just check the prices and stuff because this one I wanna buy not rent it !!! He was on his computer and just got a message that a customer changed his mind, so one was available and I was just there ! of course I couldn't choose the color, and happy it was a grey one! I said yes and signed immediately...at the end I just have to wait a month and a half ! I'm a lucky bastard !
In Australia you can also get the Jimny Lite. Basic stereo instead of apple car play. No spotlights. Steel wheels. Manual transmission only. $4000 cheaper
Great review. I have placed an order for one here in Spain but they can't give me a delivery date! I have a feeling I'm going to be waiting quite some time for it!
These cars came out in the USA in 1985 or 86. They were so tiny that I was afraid they would flip and I get killed. I heard years later that the father of a lady I knew, that Jimmy turned over on a highway going fast. The man was lucky to survive that accident. They should have roll-bars built-in.
When I saw the old one, in late 2018, driving by us with no problem in the no man’s land (border) from Lesotho to South Africa, I knew I wanted that for my first car. We were in a Land Rover who had the worst time going thru those rocks on the road. 😆 Now after waiting for 2 years, finally got my beige and black color…. in the Philippines! So the off roading I will experience is probably from the unpaved road in some areas 😜 but I like the idea that a small car can do that and it is also good looking 🥰
I worked for Suzuki back in the days of SJ's they sold quicker than suzuki could make them and were fantastic fun, Suzuki look to have nailed it again with the design. So if they were to offer a Jimny XL being a similar size to that of a Defender they would really be onto something and clean up where Land Rover has lost out.
On the steering it has a box instead of a rack. Apparently the box is better for off roading but known to be less direct than racks. I am glad it is more roomy inside than the older one as I am 5,11 and felt cramped driving it. This one feels like it has increased in size just enough that I will be comfortable and may even be able to move forward a notch on the seat. Rear seat room is also improved I think. I need a good test drive but overall I am so far impressed and hopeful for it.
It looks stunning, the design reminds of the old Samurai, also the gauges look alike... love it, really love it. I hate that I don't have the money to buy it...

The japanese version get the 660cc turbocharge version..I wonder how capable the the 660cc version is
Suzuki said turbocharging wouldn't work. A shame, because it would be a better road car, but not many people buying one will really care. They'll just be happy to own one.
@@newmotoring but the new jimny still have the 660cc turbo engine in japanese market?
Is a valid point re the 660cc turbocharged unit. I wonder if it has the same crawling modes as the 1.5. Surely a 0.66 off boost will provide too little torque. Perhaps more revs and clutch slip are required.
A Supercharger maybe?
I had a first generation Jimny back in the mid 80s and loved it. Seriously thinking of getting a new one next year when we have the money.
My dealer was allocated 2 for Q1’19 and happy to say I managed to bag one of them. The local dealer is doing an up-spec version with all sorts of bits on it that pushes the price to near £21k...will get to see the detail on Friday.
I just purchased a Jimmy 2005 but i really want one of these..
i have a MX-5 and a Jimny. Two icons. I love them very much!
My two dream cars wow! Hopefully I'd get them someday. Gotta finish college first and get a job!
I'd say, this is what we need in this age of ultra fastness..Something that is a bit slow and gives you time to ponder the manic obsession for speed, love for bling-bling
over practicality. Love this cute and unpretentious SUV with a layman's personality!!!
*Original Suzuki's Design Came Before G.
Jimny came out about 9 (?) years before the G Wagon.
The Romanian ARO 244 was the real G and came out before Gwagon. Capitalism came, all factories were sold for pennies to foreigners and then made bankrupted to be sold for scrap metal 1000 times more than they were bought. Oh well:/ We still got Dacia but owned by Renault.
@@japanluv And Western Europe Still Mocking Eastern Europe for 'Did nothing' and 'poor'. nobody knew that National Capitalism is better than Real one.
I've had suzuki sj410, it was and still is great offroader. This new jimny is fantastic retro version of it. Nicely done suzuki.
It should re-badged as a Chevy and sold in the US. I bet it would sell well.
Some GM badge engineering. GM do what you know best, lol.
hugglescake that’s a great idea
No Ford-- For Off Road Duty ! The New ranger too much $$
“Yes, Suzuki I want one. Please take my money.”
Sounds like driving an old school RWD 70's car. I'd LOVE one!
I love it! Simple, basic 4-wheeler! Well done Suzuki!
I'm so fucking mad this isn't in the states. :( I feel like they'd do good here. They're missing an entire market. Lol
It's so cute I don't think Americans would care if it's not fast at all.
@@thomaschristopherwhite9043 precisely. They complain about the gt86 not having enough power, the sti and many more Japanese cars. This would surely not sell that well here in the US. For one it doesn't have a big block and it doesn't have enough power
It's tiny. I doubt the serving size will match US tastebuds.
@@awenindoe there's plenty of tiny vehicles that do well over here. Including the Suzuki samari from the 80s which was basically an older version of this. Not everything we drive over here is some giant gas guzzler. This is something alot of 20 something year olds like myself would be buying. It definitely would need to be directed at the younger crowd. But I don't think they'd do bad at all over here in the states.
@@rogersmith3295 Do you mean the samurai?
Ordered, deposit paid, just hope it turns up as promised!
Graeme Pilkington good choice
So effectively on the plus side the switch to metallic has not really cost me anything and prevented a +9 month wait if this revised one turns up as promised.
correction - Update, dealer has communicated that "medium grey, kinetic yellow and black" are not available due to paint problems at the factory and that I could still have the flat-grey one ordered if I wait till September!
Andy.
the new jimny gives serves as a true reincarnation of the sj410, an off road legend
Jimny > GWagen
I see that they've added lots of nive touches but nothing compares to the rugged Suzuki's of the 80s and 90s definitely a worthy continuation of the small 4x4 into a more modern style
Having test driven one, your review is spot on. Really love this little machine.
Thanks very much! Will you buy one?
NewMotoring I am actually just about to order myself one. I am in South Africa and have been advised that the waiting period is around six months
Refreshing review. I like this new approach.Opinion straight from the heart and not ashamed or scared to say so. Great. Keep up your good work. No diplomatic mushy talk. Fabulous!!! Whats surprising is everyone is mad about the car but sadly no word for the good review.
2.0L turbo engine would have been the perfect package. I hope people start putting together turbo packages for these only then I'll buy one.
I feel you've missed the point. You've described a RAV4, there's already plenty of them in the market.
I also remember rescuing a Landrover on a snowdrift with all four wheels spinning, pull him off with my little Suzuki Jeep lol
Bit of a budget G wagon. I like it
Yea it would make a cool first car for young drivers.
20 Jimnys for the price of one G wagon
"but I just don't care" - that's exactly what I think about the negative side of this car because it simply has the cooool factor.
Just ordered mine today. Dealer promised delivery to take place between Oct. - Dec.
I am doing the "ask believe receive" thing because I want one badly. thank you for the honest review!!!
No problem, thanks for the comment! Put it on your Christmas list. Maybe Santa will bring one! 🎅
It's a bit "back to the old Samurai" and that's why i love it !!
The mini G wagon lives on! Great little car, might consider it in a couple years as a weekender.
What’s not to like about this fantastic little go anywhere car. Only Suzuki can make a vehicle like this work so successfully. Well done Suzuki
guys we need cabrio versions !!!! asap. you absolutely must make cabrio (convertible) versions.
If Suzuki build it for as long as the old Jimny there's every chance we'll see a drop-top!
@@newmotoring i deeply hope so.
get the gas axe out :P
In Australia you can also get the Jimny Lite. Basic stereo instead of apple car play. No spotlights. Steel wheels. Manual transmission only. $4000 cheaper
Yes, I still want one, if they ever bring it to the US.
Keeping the true 4x4's alive
There is a waiting time of more than 1 year even in the homeland Japan here
i love it, looks, lack of performance yet so satisfying to drive. Think it will be a great seller and your spot on with your review. Great stuff.
Great review. I have placed an order for one here in Spain but they can't give me a delivery date! I have a feeling I'm going to be waiting quite some time for it!
Thanks very much! Glad you liked it. Let us know when you get it... You're right, it could be a while!
Expect to see this in every farmyard in the UK in the coming years. It's like a defender but only reliable.
Could it be Suzuki refuses to deal with jumping through hoops for the US governments crap regulations
It couldn't be anything else so by means of deduction we can find government regulation to be the reason why.
It's a perfect little off roader for bad roads, i like it very much
Just take my money...
I just got a reservation for a 2023 automatic !!!!! in Mexico. Wish we could get the Chiffon Ivory Metalic color !
In the Netherlands, due to polution taxes, it costs 32000,- euro. Ordered one !!!
Like your review. Getting mine in one month, lifted a bit with 31" tires. Can't wait!
I'm in the states and I want one
You wouldn't fit in one.
Best car of the decade.
Awesome review, absolutely loved it!!! And can’t wait for this Jimny to enter the Indonesia market this year, I’ve been dreaming about this car 😍
Its cool but it need more trunk space along with holders for passegers bottles at the rear , not leaving out hand rails , dont leave out more speed .
I need a good test drive but overall I am so far impressed and hopeful for it.
so, you got a test drive? what do you think? any update for your height as I'm also the same height and am considering the vehicle. Thanks.
The moment someone tells me to subscribe, like and click the notifications bell, I close the tab.
This little thing has character. Suzuki needs to have it in its India lineup! Hope they get to see this feedback...........
It looks stunning, the design reminds of the old Samurai, also the gauges look alike... love it, really love it.
I hate that I don't have the money to buy it...
Very informative. A good mix of subjective and objective reporting.
I hope they do make a TV ad so they sell even more, love my 88 Sierra/samurai.
Very informative video Sean, good stuff, and also good to see your take on the new Jimny 👍
Great Video Review. I'm a fan of the New Suzuki Jimny and look forward to seeing some on the Road next year
A four door version with a bigger engine would be popular, as well as a soft-top.
Ive got an original 1975 LJ50 2 stroke such a quirky little car will test drive one of these when then come out
I drive a Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country in Phuket Thailand. Am going to to have to also get a Jimmy to keep it company.....
