    I noticed a slight error in the video. Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole are good mates and get on really well, almost too well at their peak! There are a few tabloids stories from that time that claim their partnership combined to score off the field with a young lady! The Man United players who famously didn't get on but managed to maintain a total professionalism on the pitch were Andy Cole and Teddy Sherringham.

    Would have thought Torres would make the 2007/08 season. Impact was instant, almost took Liverpool to a title in 2008/09, and doubled the money spent on him when sold to Chelsea.

    • @thebigbop5866
      @thebigbop5866 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      They definitely got the best of him. He was never super prolific at Atletico, so it was a pretty big surprise to everyone at how much of a boss he became in those first couple of seasons. He then famously "dropped off", but he didn't, he reverted to his usual standard.

      @@thebigbop5866 How do you know he didn't actually step up in his game but just couldnt adjust his qualities to the new surroundings at Chelsea? After all he also managed to replicate his tremendous form for the spanish national team during the time he spent at Liverpool

    • @thebigbop5866
      @thebigbop5866 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Reorganiser No he was never a beast for the Spanish national team either, during Euro 2008 there was a lot of concern over him all of the other top rated players were performing the best they ever were but he had yet to put the ball in the back of the net, backup Dani Guiza had scored 3 on route to the final and looked arguably a better option. Thankfully, Torres broke his duck by scoring the singular goal in the final, but he was never "the man". He was either "the future" or just another good cog in a finely oiled machine. And besides, for 6 months before the Chelsea move he had already fallen off. It was a 2 season purple patch, then he reverted to the mean.

    • @Reorganiser
      @Reorganiser 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thebigbop5866 First of all tbf it was hard to be "the man" in that spanish team considering only Messi could just about be "the man" at Barca next to Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol etc. . But I've seen players being absolutely oustanding for a year or two, then drop off massively and hav a comeback a few years later. Anthony Modeste at Cologne is such an example, as he was about as good 4 years ago as he is now, but had a poor spell of seasons in betweem. With footballers at that level, it's about wether the surroundings fit or not to get the player in good form. Sometimes the player doesnt feel like he could archieve enough with set conditions around him. Currently Messi is a good example of how different conditions benefit or in that case worsen output which leads to people believe they have a drop off, but actually it's just conditions that cant get the best out of players

    • @thebigbop5866
      @thebigbop5866 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Reorganiser I'm sorry but people have a habit of losing themselves in "mania", there was definitely a "Torresmania" in the premier league and particularly Liverpool for a few seasons, but that wasn't his standard. You talk about bad conditions, well the flip side is good conditions. Torres walking into Liverpool was ideal for him, the team was set up to build up to someone who could be fed the ball in good positions, they had bern trying to make life ideal for a number 9 for at least 2 years before he arrived, Dirk Kuyt was supposed to be the original Torres, but he turned out not to be that prolific but an immensely hard worker. Torres was always a better finisher than Kuyt, so he thrived in a team that was built to feed someone. Torres had a purple patch, people lost themselves in saying "this is who the player is", whilst followers of Spanish football were extremely surprised at the newly reinvented Torres who scored goals for fun, that was never his game before. He was 24 when he joined Pool, still a young enough age to turn it all around, Shearer at one time didn't score many goals for Southampton then went to Blackburn and lit it up for the rest of his career, so it happens, Lewandowski didn't really get going for a few years either, but Torres only had 2 and a half seasons of that, then he began to resemble again the type of player he always was, he was always more of an auxiliary/supporting forward, not the main man. Torres was always the same kind of player, but deceived the world by playing out of his skin at Liverpool for a few seasons, many didn't see him until he joined the PL and that's what they thought he was like, but he wasn't until then, and eventually reassumed his previous trajectory. Lewandowski and Shearer once they got going being prolific that's who they became, when Torres started being prolific it was a very out of character run that eventually ran out of steam.

Can we also have more nostalgia videos about various great players from the first circa 15 years of the EPL between 1992 and 2007 ish? Not disputing that there are bound to be some inconsistencies, but my logic for picking Kanté was primarily because of his role in Leicester winning the title, which I don't think would have been possible without him. I think the case for Cech in 2005 is stronger because Rooney would have inevitably been a success wherever he went; his signing was pretty much a "no-brainer" for Ferguson at that point. Whereas, would anyone really have predicted the quality and longevity of Cech when he first signed? Arguably the greatest PL Goalkeeper of all time...if he hadn't suffered that horrific injury it probably wouldn't be a case for debate at all.
