Because Luka is an idiot - when he agreed to consolidate with Russia he actually believed the Kremlin was in reach until Putin showed up and took the opportunity away forever. Lukashenkov loathes Putin - he hadn't been "the last european dictator" for years just to become a mere govenor/puppet of _Tsar Vlad the Terrible_ treatening him like a mere watchdog.
Belarus still not having commited even a single combatant despite all virtue signaling towards the Kremlin speaks volumes:
Luka is too weak and economically reliant on Russia and has to cooperate to a degree, but he doesn't want to be a mere pawn either and might even hope to eventually outstay/-live _Bloody Vlady_ this way which of course is an excercise in futility because in reality his rule is long forfeit to stand and fall with the putinist regime so he could just as well fully commit in order to at least ensure the regime's survival for just long enough to not personally care about the aftermath any longer - maybe he's even delusional enough to think fate had finally granted him his long anticipated opportunity to cease the Kremlin because this pesky upstart Putin was stupid enough to saw the third leg of the broken throne he sits on for no good reason whatsoever.
Belarus is a strange country in many regards weirdly enough especially for somebody familiar with Russia as well.
I've been to Belarus several times, first time age 7 when I accompanied my father on a business trip in 1994 who is german but had been socialized in Russia due to already my grandfather working there and would return to study in Moscow after having graduated highschool and serve double the draft at home in the GDR in order to be allowed studying abroad, the second time I spent summer vacation with my best friend's family in kind of a summer camp as well as in Brest (second largest belarussian city) in the late 90's as well as on later occasions on the way to Moscow which is a pretty unique experience from a (for the longest time of their life) westerner's perspective - I actually don't know any other german of my generation who would have been to Belarus, not a single one which makes it a pretty privileged position to be in in light of the current conflict because for the overwhelming majority of the western audience media could report about North Korea just as well, a place this obscure that it simply has to be some weird relic of a bygone era surviving by mere historical circumstance.
I wouldn't have imagined for the life of me that Russia turning full-on fascist would be the reason for it to become relevant again - and that's coming from a guy pretty biased in favour of Russia _(never towards the putinist regime though)_ who doesn't ever apply terms like this lightheartedly due to being a german sufficiently familiar and interested with political theory and their country's history. It's tragic, utterly tragic.
      I'm a russophile - and that's why I stand with Ukraine.

Russian-English could probably land a pretty sweet gig, especially with native Russian skills. Not sure where one would look, but considering the current geopolitical situation with Russia trying to flex nuts, I’m sure that translating ability could be put to good use.

To defend their nation from a dictator that denies their very existence as a separate people group. Fighting is a duty when you're invaded by such a a foe, who believes that your national sovereignty, ethnic identity and culture isn't even worthy of existence. Ukrainians didn't choose this, but nonetheless, an evil, barbaric horde is invading their homeland. They have to defend themselves, abandoning your people at such a time feels a tab bit... So it now worries me if I wanted to say fly with Air China to go to Japan, where I'd have a stop over in Shanghai or Beijing. To address just one small point in your video. I live in Chicago. I was walking downtown a few weeks ago, and I passed by a relatively nondescript building and noticed that it had a few CCTV cameras in front. I looked around a bit more at the building, and I noticed that there were maybe a dozen cameras in front pointed in every direction. You don't even see that on banks or government buildings here in Chicago. Then I noticed that it's the Chicago consulate of China. Haha. You are absolutely correct. They love their CCTV cameras.

Taiwan is one of the most transparent democracies in the world! It’s a beautiful country, with amazing kind people and really delicious food. Lastly if you are interested in Chinese culture and history the National Palace Museum of Taiwan has 700,000 historic and cultural artifacts from the Forbidden City. They were taken when the ROC retreated from China as the PRC was preforming the Cultural Revolution and in doing so destroying many historical Chinese artifacts.

Wanted to learn French since childhood. But unfortunately my father forced me to learn German instead witch is pointless for me.
Since I are and was interested in French and Italian culture. It got me to really realise how bombastically self-centred and petit bonsoir German culture is in comparison. Of course there’s exceptions but to few and to small to make a difference. So by being forced to learning German it got my to hate their culture more.

I would love for you to come visit Canada one day, where I'm from and live (I live in a small city called St. Catharines, which is a little over an hour outside Toronto). Russia and Canada have a lot of natural beauty in common and I think you would like the people, the neighbourhoods in big cities, and the demographic and linguistic diversity, among other things.
In any case, being in the EU, and particularly Portugal, isn't bad either. Your videos have always been really good, but they've taken on a special meaning since you've left Russia. One of my closest friends is a Russian who left his country, and your videos help me better understand him. Keep doing what you're doing. :)

About "dangers of visiting Russia" and this Alexei Malyarevsky, maybe you should've added that when the donation happened Navalny's organisation was already on the Russian list of extremists and doing such thing will be the same as donation to ISIS in any country (which is also punishable, regardless of sum). Also maybe you should've said that this guy was arrested not only for donation but also for "participation in the activities of extremists organisation" because he was distributing some flyers for them. He knew the law, he knew it was forbidden, still did it and got what was coming. Sure, too harsh, but there were no "sudden" changes in law or something. Naive dude just ruined his life for no reason.
I mean there are countries where certain behaviour is forbidden by law and when visiting you avoid doing it, right? You're not doing it anyway and then complain about it, right?

There's even more about the Russian passport thing, which i faced myself. It looks like the EU has some kind of a directive that prohibits Russians, Belorussians and Iranians (and partially even Chinese) to be employed in the IT-companies that are related somehow to government... For example, the whole Telecom branch is a part of it. I faced it because, even though i was born and grew up in Europe myself, i happened to have both Swedish and Russian passports. And they basically don't care about the details of my life history so to say.... Just half of the IT-market is blocked for Russians (luckily not 100%, so i did find a job but at the cost of much effort).
Literally yesterday i was on an AWS conference and was talking to a friend of mine about the discrimination i faced. Beside me there was another random serbian guy, who all of a sudden joined the dialog and told us that he is a product manager in a Telecom-related company and he can confirm that it's true and it's still like that and the situation doesn't seem to be going to change in the nearby future.

    • @Trip4man

In what way IT companies are related to Governments??? lolol They are PRIVATE companies!!! And yeah, IT companies have standards.... You can't just walk in there and ask "hire me". Do you speak the native language? Do you have a degree remotely close to IT? Have you ever worked with something similar? Etcetcetc. It goes allllllllll the way down to - do you have ANY professional experience? Like have you ever worked for 2 years and stuff like that.... So yeah... "Discrimination". Natives ALSO suffer "Discrimination"!!! I can't go to an Hospital and apply to be a Surgeon. I think they would LITERALLY laugh at my face. It's called CAPITALISM and PROFESSIONALISM bro..... In order to have a successful business you have to hire the best of the best.... Not just a random foreigner that wants to make $$$

If you fly overseas you should even be careful where your connection airport is or which countries your plane flies over. Speaking out against China by itself (within reason) would not get you into any trouble there. However, if you have any traceable business or financial ties with CIA-affiliated orgs such as Radio Free Asia, then you should definitely be wary. Collabing with the content creators you mentioned may or may not pass the bar in this case, best case would be to consult an actual knowledgeable Chinese contact to verify whether it would be an issue. I'm still leaning towards it being fine, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

It’s a shame you can’t visit Hong Kong because it’s actually a super cool city although I think it peaked as a city years ago at this point. I’d add Iran as a country you should be careful in as well as the Islamic Republic leaders have very close ties with the kremlin and are in the same boat as Russia/China when it comes to “taking care” of people who they don’t like
