You know it's a good one when he doesn't just take one complete sip but goes for two before the spit
The very first sip usually only stings and has little flavour, at least to me, so can't really analyse flavours in the first sip
I miss the early videos where he went through 80% of the bottle and there was genuine drunkenness. On the other hand, glad it worked out for him and he doesn't have to drink to forget he's in someone else's kitchen, drinking someone else's whiskey.

You're actually supposed to take the first sip quickly as an acclimation step. The second is the sip you sit, ponder, pontificate, and wax poetic about.

I'm surprised the comments aren't already filled with whiskey peeps tearing you up for pronouncing islay the wrong way.
In case people do want to know, the correct way to pronounce it is eye-luh. Also, the appropriate response to pretentious whiskey peeps putting people down is to fart in their glencarin without explanation. Whiskey is for enjoying, not for flexing.

I think it's because of the plea to build him and each other up with our comments. At this point I would hope we all feel for the man. He needs kind words in this hour and we can nitpick him later, or let Abby do that.

I would honestly buy a leather-bound book filled with Prescott's reviews interspersed with rye observations and pithy wisdom.
Finally a beverage I’ve actually had and enjoyed. Ardbeg is a bit like having a campfire in your mouth, both in terms of smokiness and burning sensation, but boy is it flavorful.
On a tour of Islay distilleries, my 18 yo daughter sampled six different Scotches. She described the taste of all as "fire-dirt". I thought, she's not wrong. I did buy her a Laphroaig for her 21st, her own bottle of fire-dirt.
Mmmm, yes - Ardbeg is my personal favourite, although I often drink Laphroaig too as it's easier to get hold of and usually about half the price! Bowmore is also a good Islay if you're on a budget - and Sainsburys have an Islay Blend which is surprisingly enjoyable.

First time I tried scotch was when my buddy brought over some Walker Blue for me to try. I had already been throwing back doubles of Wild Turkey for a few hours by then, so without even thinking I tale his bottle and pour a couple fingers into a cup of RC Cola. My buddy looked at me like I just rabbit-punched a pregnant woman, he never came over to drink with me after that.

My neighbor had a very very old dog they named Phineas. I watched that dog take naps in their back yard whole I was gardening. I think it passed away in late 2018. Phineas was very good dog.

As the character of PV3 unfolds more I’m becoming genuinely concerned that the final upload will involve some self harm... stay strong PV3 and enjoy your scotch!
Ardbeg is a little tough for the casual drinker. Honestly, it's a bit much for me and I love scotch whisky. I'm a Laphroig man, myself. Still a strong, peated whiskey, but just a little smoother.
Laphroaig 10 was my first and still the best, or at least best value. Ardbeg Uigdeail (or however it is spelled) is pretty dang good but twice as expensive as Laphroaig 10.
To each their own, but whisky noobs, please don´t listen to this person here. Laphroig 10 is probably the heaviest of the entry level Islay scotch.
To be fair, An Oa is the least peat forward Ardbeg in its core range.
Good to know. I recently sipped Red Breast Irish Pot Still for the first time, and the flavor was so persistent and imposing it was scary, but then again I’m a red wine guy, not spirits
@@wallacegrommet9343, Redbreast is a completely unpleated whiskey and pot stilled. It’s very different from a peated Islay scotch.

One of the best whiskeys. Has hints of licorice for those that like that. A perfect marriage of smokiness and sweetness.

Thanks for pronouncing the name correctly. Brown bottles filter out more bad stuff than green. That’s why most beer bottles are brown.
