1985 Breeders' Cup Day

Proud Truth, once the favorite for last spring's Kentucky Derby but fifth in that race and sidelined all summer with an injury, stormed from last place to beat Gate Dancer by a head and win the $3 million Breeders' Cup Classic yesterday in an upset at Aqueduct Race Track. The victory by the almost-forgotten son of Graustark, coupled with earlier results among the seven Breeders' Cup races, scrambled several championship pictures: . * Chief's Crown, who was favored to win the Classic and with it the champion 3-year-old and horse-of-the-year titles as well, finished a tired fourth, beaten 9 3/4 lengths. * The horse-of-the-year candidate Lady's Secret was walloped by her stablemate Life's Magic in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Distaff.

Spend A Buck..who most assuredly would've won this as he had dominated the Derby & other fast races...was injured & retired a little before the BCC. NOTICE... Gate Dancer Never changed leads in the stretch. But Proud Truth ran a Great race!! Must wonder what would've happened had Gate Dancer changed leads. ?!?

If Gate Dancer had changed to his right lead he probably would have held off Proud Truth.

Really getting tired of the Breeder’s Cup running at SA, Churchill most every year . Some of my best BC’s were when they had it at Woodbine and Gulfstream did pretty decent this year too.
