To this day I thought the call to DQ Vino Rosso was insane. Code of Honor was not hampered. Vino Rosso ougamed him. I say the same thing EVERY time I review the race.
This was certainly the episode with the most drama. A good one to make up for ep.4. We'll see if Baffert made the right decision. McKinzie is a good horse but not great. Maybe Smith gets his revenge with Yoshida. Shug just has that down home earthy vibe and is likable. Code of Honor has as good a chance in this field as any horse. TSG should invest in upgrading the Santa Anita backside. They can afford it.
That was not Mike Smith's fault obviously. How soon Bob ditches loyalty to place the blame elsewhere. I thought Mongolian deserved the credit not Mike S the blame.
I love Baffert but really? McKenzie didn’t lose because of Mike Smith. He lost because he just isn’t that good of a horse. Plain and simple. Mike Smith knows McKenzie better than any other jockey and that’s because no other jockey has been on him. For Baffert to replace Smith simply because McKenzie didn’t win this one race is ridiculous and petty. It doesn’t matter who Bob slaps on McKenzie’s back for the BCC. The horse isn’t going to win and taking Mike off of him only further lessened his chances imo but it’s whatever. 🙄

Post race comment was that he was angry; hates taking a great rider off a horse: continued to use him on Arrogate and JustifyHad a clean trip in pictured race just couldn’t hold off Mongolian Groom this day ultimately does use Rosario on McKenzie; good result: 2nd in the Cup don’t know what happened subsequently except that McK was commercially successful at stud when retired
With Arrogate he said he left it up to Mike so don’t know from this video In any event Joel Rosario replaced Mike S on McKenzie for a he Cup and they placed second don’t know what jockeys were used for the rest of his racing career

James Newberry Nope. He finished 12th in last year’s BCC and now that Mike has been taken off of him, his chances of winning have been even more reduced imo. It’ll take a lot of luck for him and a lot of bad luck for the rest of the field in order for McKinzie to win now. Even then, I couldn’t see him winning by any more than a nose.
