Yes they can. It wouldn't be popular with the fans or officials. But it could save an injury, a season, and/or a career. Injuries can hapoen in tennis or any athletic pursuit. Jockeys in horse racing are followed around by an ambulance, and sometimes they end up in the back of that ambulance. @BassByTheBay หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Because there's an escalating penalty scale in tennis for repeated infractions. First you get a warning, which Kenin got. Then you lose a point, then a game, then the match. In the US Open match with Osaka, Serena was given a warning, then lost a point for the next infraction, then a game for the next.
The ump in the Serena match was full of it, though. It was absurd to penalize her for calling him a thief after he took a point from her. "Thief" is an extremely tame criticism - not even close to an obscenity, and it was certainly an understandable response to the point penalty which she felt was unjustified. I didn't like Serena's behavior that day, but the ump's reaction to being called a thief will go down as one of the lamest penalties ever given in tennis.

I think Sofia, for her long term success, should explore a change of coaches. I saw her play live in San Diego last year and she is clearly very talented, but there seems to be a continued underlying aggravation which, in the short term, can be a great motivator, but can really be a grind. She is mature enough to go to the next level of continued success, injuries notwithstanding. I thought the supervisor’s demeanor was very unprofessional. Thank you for the video!

Im not defending her actions...but to me this was the culmination of the horrible start to the year she has had. Prior to Rome she was 2-11 for the year, with one of those wins coming at the Challanger level. This after she had her health issues and struggled for two years and then finally had some good results at the end of last year just for this year to be a monumental dissapontment. Again, not saying that means she should have conducted herself this way, but I do believe that the evidence very much shows that this was not all over a single incident of playing conditions. To me, this was 5 months of unbelievable dissapointment and frustration that all burst out at once right here.
