When did the umpire give Kenin the obscenity violation ?
5:02 - The commentator said she was given code violation.
Players can refuse to play, officials have the right to disqualify players and hand the match to their opponent.
that simple :o)
If it were Serena, they would disqualify her. She lost a point or game for calling the umpire a liar but this white girl can curse.
Yes they can. It wouldn't be popular with the fans or officials. But it could save an injury, a season, and/or a career. After prior injuries due to a bad surface, if more players had the courage to make that decision, officials would definately change their tune regarding safety. It would be "bad for business"!
@@sweetrocks85 safety ??? oooh poor players :'(

Poor attitude and low class. She needs to better control her emotions.
Privileged and spoiled rolled into one
Was that her dad or coach encouraging her bad behavior?
The officials make the calls and the players play. If players start making the calls then you no longer have a game. That applies to all sports, and it an't exactly rocket science.
She's a child who has never heard the words no, enough, not today, ain't happening.
Of course if the player is injured and sport career is affected due to injuries is her fault also. It is definitely not a jet engine science to observe that deployed umbrellas are not intended to shade spectators.
@@TheSafariHunter Correct. If she chooses to play on (rather than withdraw) in conditions which she considers to be dangerous, and sustains an injury, that's her own fault. Injuries can hapoen in tennis or any athletic pursuit. Jockeys in horse racing are followed around by an ambulance, and sometimes they end up in the back of that ambulance. Nobody is forcing them to be jockeys. If it's too dangerous for you, do something else.
What you and the judges don't understand about clay courts is stunning. They're tough enough when dry and bad for the players and the surface when wet.
Why is any sport postponed due to weather? Exactly! Can get very dangerous for injury, possibly even career ending, especially on a surface like clay! Obviously, she was right, as it was called moments later! Gotta give her credit for expressing her displeasure, when common sense did not work with this chair umpire!
Since Sofia Kenin came into the WTA Tour , she has a terrible time of controlling her anger and temper, many hidden issues…… so much talent.😵💫

She may have been right about the conditions on court, but unprofessional of her to curse anyone out. Just call for the supervisor or director.
Well to be fair she actually came out and played some great tennis with a lot of movement in the point immediately after that tantrum, so obviously the court wasn't that bad
She did call for the Supr! In the vid, he came out, didn't even test the surface or give her the time of day, and immediately agreed with the chair ump. THAT lack of diligence is what prompted the anger! Obviously the court WAS that bad. It was called 2 pts later.

The moment she swore the penalties should have started. Very poor given the Supervisor must have heard her.
The super had too much attitude. One of the things you have to factor in is, is the player dealing with an injury or had a previous injury due to a wet court so the super has to lighten up.
It's easy for him to get cocky when an error won't cost him his career and ultimately cost him millions of dollars. It would help for him to look at it from that perspective. It's not just arbitrary diva behavior, a career and millions of dollars are on the line for her.

I find it very interesting that Kenin didn't lose any points or games for cussing out the umpire???? Serena lost a whole game just for calling the umpire a fraud/liar, at the US Open.
"thief" was the word Serena used, not that it's any worse or better
Because there's an escalating penalty scale in tennis for repeated infractions. First you get a warning, which Kenin got. Then you lose a point, then a game, then the match. In the US Open match with Osaka, Serena was given a warning, then lost a point for the next infraction, then a game for the next.
The ump in the Serena match was full of it, though. It was absurd to penalize her for calling him a thief after he took a point from her. "Thief" is an extremely tame criticism - not even close to an obscenity, and it was certainly an understandable response to the point penalty which she felt was unjustified. I didn't like Serena's behavior that day, but the ump's reaction to being called a thief will go down as one of the lamest penalties ever given in tennis.

You shouldn't be allowed to sit down in the middle of a game like that, especially for this reason. Unreal.
Yes the behaviour of tennis players changed unbelievably, they stop games endlesslycdiscussing decisions plus they take time as they will and talk to their teams between points. It is also interesting how are they allowed and tolerated for this as this is all forbidden and prone to punishments in tennis..
Amazing!
8:33 Aryna had three championship points, not just two. Also, it's extremely unlikely that Iga and Sonia will face each other in this tournament because they're on opposite sides of the draw, and Sonia has some tough opponents lined up if she keeps winning
I thought the same. Doing videos here you should know the stats better.
She had a good point....the officials say it's good to play, then 3 minutes later, it's too wet. Dayum, who would've known.

Swearing at an umpire is unprofessional, she is a brat, her father should teach her manners besides tennis.
Also, to those people saying should be the players to decide if is to dangerous, if this was the case, the player will want to stop the game "because is dangerous" just because she is tired or loosing the game , and if the court will be really dangerous but she is winning then they will want to continue anyway. Players will use this rule to their advantage.
The umpire is not a random person from the street and knows about court conditions, players are not better than umpire to decide.

Iga vs Kerber will be an interesting one. Kerber is hungry to win and beat Iga after Iga defeated her twice this year. Iga is looking so good and strong to win the title

I think Sofia, for her long term success, should explore a change of coaches. I saw her play live in San Diego last year and she is clearly very talented, but there seems to be a continued underlying aggravation which, in the short term, can be a great motivator, but can really be a grind. She is mature enough to go to the next level of continued success, injuries notwithstanding. I thought the supervisor’s demeanor was very unprofessional. Thank you for the video!

This after she had her health issues and struggled for two years and then finally had some good results at the end of last year just for this year to be a monumental dissapontment.
