What i love about mike is when the others are doing solos, he's just emphasizing the solo itself, always never overplaying on parts that doesn't need one.
It’s funny that I actually think he’s overplaying! He could do even less... there always that little fill that says « hey, i’m here! » Yes he punches some stuff musically, but the idea should be to be the least noticeable!
@@thekitchenfreak then why show up at all if the idea is to be the least noticeable? MP knows how to accent things and add his own flair, which should be the main goal of all musicians in a group. Good groups gel together, like LTE does.
They trigger in me EXACTLY the same joy as they did with LTE I. This is like a beholding a meteor shower, it rarely occurs, but when it does you can only stop and enjoy its sheer magnificience.
Mike stays busy with LTE, Neal Morse Band, Sons of Apollo, and Transatlantic, (and hopefully new Flying Colors and Winery Dogs). Keeps his chops in very good shape.
Some things are just supposed to go together. Bacon and eggs. Strawberries and cream. Movies and popcorn. Petrucci and Portnoy. It's just how it's meant to be.
Nothing against Mangini, but his drums never sounded right to me. In their first album the whole mix was terrible, not just the drums, but in their newer stuff it sounds like he has always sounded, from when he was touring with steve vai through james labrie’s first solo album. He has reverted to his preferred sound, snd i much prefer the way Portnoy tunes his kit.
@@HNedel Yes, his pre production decisions combined with post production decisions made for a horrible overly compressed sound. His drums are tuned so low that they all sound the same. Even the octobans don't sound right. It's a mess and it's a shame because he's an amazing player and an even better guy to hang out with. The last album (D.O.T.) showed some hope but they're still not right which tells me they're making them sound that way on purpose.
Now that you mention it, absolutely!!! Spent so much time listening to and practicing "This Dying Soul", I'm surprised, I didn't notice it on my first listen.
Yes, and at the same time the sound's reminiscent of "This Is The Life" from ADTOE. At 6:18 the guitar melody is the vocal line to "He knows and he waits" from "In The Presence of Enemies."
This is just impossible. How can they all keep on coming up with such great ideas over 30+ years? Also the chemistry between those guys is unmatched. Triple Wow!

Always loved the way portnoy accents the lead parts
It’s funny that I actually think he’s overplaying! He could do even less... there always that little fill that says « hey, i’m here! » Yes he punches some stuff musically, but the idea should be to be the least noticeable!
@@thekitchenfreak then why show up at all if the idea is to be the least noticeable? MP knows how to accent things and add his own flair, which should be the main goal of all musicians in a group. Good groups gel together, like LTE does.
Now imagine this 4 slaying this tune in an actual stage with an actual proper audience...
And the drum kit breaks
@Filipe Neves Curral
Hopefully by November 2021.
@@sheldoncooper8199 are there such plans?
@@filipenevescurral
Not that i know. I am just hopeing they Tour once Corana is not such a BIG Problem anymore arround the World.
@@sheldoncooper8199 same!
They trigger in me EXACTLY the same joy as they did with LTE I. This is like a beholding a meteor shower, it rarely occurs, but when it does you can only stop and enjoy its sheer magnificience.
What about LTE 2?
2:50 - "These Walls" - i love it
5:47 some DT nostalgia has entered the chat and my heart could not be happier
Bruno Galarza totaly agree with you🤘
Yes!!!
Jaysus...couldn't agree with you more!
Recalling ‘In the name of God’ in my head
02:00 also resembles Repentance....
Portnoy's chops are still killer like those of his younger self 🔥
Also loved his Neil Peart jersey
Agreed!!!!🙌😍😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥
Mike stays busy with LTE, Neal Morse Band, Sons of Apollo, and Transatlantic, (and hopefully new Flying Colors and Winery Dogs). Keeps his chops in very good shape.
I agree on the Neil Peart tribute
For 7 minutes I was 20 years old again, feels like been lost an arm and it grows again.
😭😭
Hey me too, only I felt like 22. I can totally relate.
exactly !
I recommend Sons of Apollo, Mike Portnoy is Mike Portnoy on that band
I felt the same way!
Those Petrucci solos are so perfect.
They are technically perfect but they lack emotion.
Finaly after 10 years I can see the Legendary Mike Portnoy , Jordan rudes , John Petrucci ia together again 😎😎😎😎🙏
terharu ngab
Give Tony some love
I know, right?! I'm mosty just happy that there's no bad blood between them!
@@pouyash5785 Of course, he deserves love too, but that's not the point he was making :)
@@pouyash5785 he's referring to dream theater dude
this is an instant classic. The interplay between the musicians is so complex and stellar.
Seriously - they just picked right up where they left off. Didn't miss a beat. :)
Yeah LTE . The DT sound that everyone miss. Not to technical. The real progressive metal.
The last DT and their self titled album sounded a lot like classic DT to me.
Finally this is how a real drum sounds.... miss this so much
Some things are just supposed to go together.
Bacon and eggs.
Strawberries and cream.
Movies and popcorn.
Petrucci and Portnoy.
It's just how it's meant to be.
A fucking MEN
Amén
Nailed it.
amen and awomen
Couldn't agree more
These four men are undeniably masters of their craft. And they have combined to show they are only getting BETTER. Unreal.
Seeing them actually in the same room together at 7:01 made me beyond happy
Fauci got a heart attack
This sounds more Dream Theater than Dream Theater...Love it
Just what I felt.
Came here to say this. This is Dream Theater at its core wtf
You can say that again, buddy
In the future they will wonder if these legendary musicians really existed
Anybody else hearing “Now that you can see all you have done. It’s time to take that step into the kingdom” at 2:10?
Of course!! From the Twelve Step Suite :)
Yes...a litlle diferent, but very similar.
Now that you mention it, absolutely!!! Spent so much time listening to and practicing "This Dying Soul", I'm surprised, I didn't notice it on my first listen.
It IS
Yes, and at the same time the sound's reminiscent of "This Is The Life" from ADTOE.
At 6:18 the guitar melody is the vocal line to "He knows and he waits" from "In The Presence of Enemies."
This is my DREAM THEATER SOUND !! 😍😍😍😍
Great song i Love It John Petrucci is my favorito guitar play
Definitivamente hay una magia que brota cuando Portnoy y Petrucci hacen cosas juntos. Este tema supera con creces todo lo que ha hecho Dream Theater en los últimos años.
Definitely........ i agree
Concuerdo contigo tocayo🤘
Seas mamon
This is just impossible. How can they all keep on coming up with such great ideas over 30+ years? Also the chemistry between those guys is unmatched. Triple Wow!
Best DT album since Octavarium
It's really awesome that Mike's drum has DT's logo on it. 🔥
THIS IS THE BEST THING THAT'S HAPPENED TO ME IN ALL OF MY TEENAGE.
Favorite song of all time is still "When the Water Breaks" waited 20+ years for this - so excited ~!
Yesss that’s one of my favorites too!
mine favourite too
My favorite song.... EVER.
These guys were just born to make music together. Extremely happy to see the band reunited.
ポートノイの凄さを再認識した。彼にしかできないバンドだわ
Ohh my God ( Petrucci) 😍😍!Woowwwwww !
As Rusty Cooley said: “There is no one like him still gets better and better ,he has no limits! Such an amazing and professional player”..
. These guys making the world a better place honestly.. thanx to each of them❤️ LTE and DT are just the perfection❤️❤️ i love you all❤️❤️
❤️❤️
LTE is the Dream Theater that we all want.
DT without vocals that we all want
You are not all.
This is pure genius: an ungodly amount of talent mixed with virtuoso skills.
Thank God!!!!! So good to have you guys back together making magic
When the song ended i was like "WTF WHO STOPPED MY VIDEO?!? I WANT MOAR"
Seeing Mike wearing a Neil Peart jersey makes me cry...
Same here pal 😭
Homage
Greatest drummer of all time
Seeing him record with John and Jordan fills me with delight.
dt drum is also set!
How is John Petrucci able to record three albums at the same time with Dream Theater, Liquid and his own solo project??? Incredible musicians!
I answer just easily. Because of Portnoy creativity. Just so is possible ,seeing how many collaborations does Portnoy is a gold egg’s chicken
because John is an enlightened and prodigious genius
coronavirus baby
Probably because it only takes him one take to get the song perfect...
Mike Portnoy recorded this with LTE, John Petrucci's solo album, and also a double full prog/rock album with Transatlantic, so it's a tie
Waiting for Metropolis part 3!
