I was so excited to see that you’d spent time talking to Alan-he is just a rockstar, and super generous with his time. He has responded to my questions many times on the Mushroom ID FB groups. Awesome interview, Adam. Thank you.
Alan was so helpful in my early days (2002-2005) on shroomery and later in 2009-2012 when we were trying to figure out if P. cyanescens was several species with varying morphologies, or if we were looking at one species... now that we have DNA it makes this so much easier! wonderful video, and Thanks largely in part to alan and a few others, we discovered and documented Identifying P. Alllenii (named after John W Allen, whom i forage with annually in Seattle, as his eye sight is now failing, sadly). a few years back. One of the coolest processes ive gotten to be a part of. collecting spores, and photos.
I've had watched Alan Rockefeller before in a youtube video( in which he was looking for mushrooms in Mexico). Great job he is doing. I understand him well, because I also have that same drive, that same motivation to know what species are the mushrooms I find in the wild. Totally in tune with what he says about the connection to nature. PCR is something I'd like to do in the future, because there are a lot of species we find in nature that we examine in detail, even by microscope, and in the end, we still have doubts about its identification. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Adam for this interview with Mr. Rockefeller. I’ve been watching his posts on Mushroom Observer for years and appreciate his knowledge and enthusiasm.
Great video, Adam! Its nice to see you pay it forward to someone who is grinding out information about the very subject matter we consume. Alan was the first person to respond to me about a mushroom ID I was trying to determine on mushroom observer. Wouldn't mind seeing this as a reoccurring theme on your channel with other people pushing the fungi community forward. Cheers
Alan is the man! I started watching videos on YT & came across some of his content as I was getting into mushrooms (not even a year ago). Since then I’ve attented a mushroom event that he held in LA a few months ago & more recently I drove up to Pacifica, CA. for a foray led by Mr. Rockefeller himself.
As a generational forager who's been mushroom hunting since I was in diapers, I can't tell you how much I appreciate scientists/civilian scientists like yourself and Alan who are promoting and innovating the science of mycology for the general public.
What a terrific video Adam! Like you, Alan is obviously an expert mycologist & very down to earth guy. Must be nice making a living at what you love to do. Great work that you two are doing! Keep it up.....👍👍
DUDE can you do more mushroom videos?! One per month at least! It's like it's trending or something.... and this was SO AWESOME! I've seen people interview Paul Stamets who had no idea what he was talking about, perhaps you could do that too :D This was so cool! There is SO much that mushrooms do, they will truly revolutionize technology and biology.... and our consciousness
11:58 this right here! i have always felt this way when hiking. i always felt like I was just passing through with no objective I started researching microscopes to look at finds from outside recently and somehow went from videos about pond scum and the like to stumbling upon videos about mushrooms, plants, and other wildlife. I have a "reason" to go on hikes now. thank you
@8:44 took me three years to figure out what that incredible scent in the front yard was... so reminiscent of honeysuckle - yet no honeysuckle to be found! FINALLY! Pittosporum tobira! aka Mock Orange, Australian laurel, Japanese cheesewood. Felt like I had just scored a touchdown. lol
Watching this video just now after getting seriously Into foraging first plants and now mushrooms. PCR is especially relevant now given the ability to detect Covid and potential to detect certain cancers.
I watched a few videos of Rockefeller last year and he suggested Mushroom Observer . Com Within 10 minutes of uploading pictures he identifies my mushroom.. Started watching you about a year ago also and love your channel, especially because I went to Slippery Rock and gone on hikes on some of the parks you go on. Awesome to see two super stars together
Wow. This is a awesome video. I have learned alot from you, and Allen. Plus some others. This upcoming season will be my first hunting season since I was a kid. I wanted to go into mushroom farming, but my life took another direction. I live in northern New England so waiting for the winter to end. I'm extremely green/rookie but I can't wait to start sharing photographs and finds with everyone. Thanks for the great educational videos. Keep up the good work.
super cool. Was just watching a video of alan and a presentation of his mexico finds and photos. Plus, weird as it is, last weekend here near vancouver bc canada i had a vehicle with a pensylvania licence plate in front of me while driving in my town
GREAT INTERVIEW! I like that I feel I got to know Alan a little bit rather than just pick his brain... Which I also very much want to do. I'll be keeping an eye out for events and whatnot. Thank you for sharing!
Garden Gnome....I too would love to see Adam do some videos in this area of fungi.....I havent taken "shrooms" in 15 years for a trip, but I have a few times tried micro-dosing and the results have been nothing short of amazing with 100% zero "trip" or "buzz" feeling.....I would love to see some videos of Adams opinion and his knowledge of the psilocybin fungi....micro-dosing is a whole other area to get into but just a simple video of some i.d.'s and lookalikes, area of the states where they grow and all that jazz.....I've only experienced the home grown variety, but would love to learn more on how to locate them in the wild......I know this topic is sort of taboo, but I think the modern medical "society" has started to open up on the great uses of micro-dosing. Adam, in my opinion, would be the perfect person to shorten that knowledge gap between those who are aware of its uses and those who think its a bad idea. there is no right answer, but Adam giving his knowledge could help bridge that gap a little. great idea garden gnome
I think he obeys the sacred voice, telling him to keep it a secret, and not spread too much, too fast. These things work by whispering slowly to you, and encouraging you to seek them out. Probably like how devoted church goers wouldn't feel right watching youtube suggested, how-to videos on connecting with God. Just expose almost anything to the masses and watch it get out of control.
@@dontsettlefor500mill you think devoted churchgoers are onto anything special? They're probably the least interested in believing true things, opting instead for anything that confirms their bias/indoctrination. I do think that Adam has chosen to distance his channel from the topic of psychoactive compounds, because his mild obsession for mycology eclipses that of hallucinogens. Though, undoubtedly, his views on the topic would be just as fascinating as everything else he puts together. I'd be hesitant, too. What with TH-cam's iron fist demonetizing/throttling anyone... for any reason.
Rembrandt I'll try and keep it short and simple if at all possible...when I micro dosed I was going through a depressing time, not full fledge depression, but more of just a feeling of no energy after an 8 hour work day, no drive to do anything after work....feelings of sadness because I felt useless because I would come home from work and need a nap...not to mention my drive at work was gone...I was not doing anything with my work time other than trying to find ways to "not work".....I micro dosed and almost instantly I became more involved at work and my energy levels went through the roof...I didn't nap once after work and I instantly started getting involved in my hobbies again and doing more with my family once I got home from work....I was in a better mood and my emotions went from a state of sadness to a state of excitement of what I could accomplish today and tomorrow....that's the best example I can give you without giving you every little detail....but I 100% will be doing this again, I just would like to do a little more research and be more in tune with the laws and the side effects of any....I would also love to try again to see if the same things occur....I am no longer micro dosing but I am also no longer feeling low and not energetic...it's almost like the micro dose was the jump start that my body needed to get over the hump....feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to answer them best I can.
As a fan of both Alan and you, this is a treat, your questions were very good also. shroomery huh.... you little rascal.... :) unfortunate i live in Belgium, but i'm in a Dutch group now and are 200 strong, this is the season that we will go on walks
Loved his tee shirt! Mushrooms on front, Plant Science Will Save the Planet, on back. Cool. Anyone read "Plant Spirit Medicine"? Eliot Cowan studied with a shaman in Mexico. Thank you for a great interview, Adam.
wow if i would have known i would have been there with bells on , so cool i want to attend . is he coming back ? i live nearby and i don,t want to miss out anymore .
Very well done... I enjoyed seeing this... Learning in person is best... Everyone with a cell phone can ask for advice like with pictures... Thanks
Hopefully a group of mycologist can get together to help with our plastic problem. Some of our products could utilize fungi packaging. I know many are allergic to mushrooms but at least some of our clothes or grocery bags or non edible items could be made from fungi.

Thanks Adam. Great video as always..
Love the work Alan does, slowly but surely dissolving the mycophobia in this country!
