BTS found me in 2016 when I was laid off after 25 yrs. I went through a deep depression because I just turned 50 and had no hope of getting another job. In interviews, I was overqualified for the position. I knew it was because of my age. I was in an awful state. The song DNA came on my TH-cam feed and I saw RM on the thumbnail so I clicked on it. I was hooked. I could not believe how much I needed them in my life. I started feeling better about their positivity and made me change. I pray for them every day for many blessings they deserve. I am now 58 and ARMY stronger.

I found them (or they found me) January last year when I was the lowest I had ever felt in my life. A number of circumstances converged and left me feeling worthless yet these guys pulled me from the brink, and for that I will love them forever. I guess at 55 I am a silver army too.

I found them through V after seeing him in Hwarang, he drew me in to explore more and have been happier than before because of them. V makes me smile and laugh and feel light hearted every day. This is wild. I'm 45 and found them LITERALLY the exact same way. Laid off, depressed, directionless and overqualified was the response from interviewers over and over and over again. In an effort to stop crying in despair, I looked up fun/funny videos on TH-cam to try and help get my mind off life and laugh and hopefully change my deepeningly crush spirit and negative painful self talk. I stumbled on to a BTS run episode and I haven't had a day since that I don't look up another video or two or get on Weverse for a break. Reaction videos are my favorite to watch because I love seeing other people (Who are generally not like me) discover them with the same shock and awe that I did and that's really cool. If I don't laugh I cry, so I'd rather laugh with BTS and Army then wallow in self-misery.

Same here. I was dreading the boredom of retirement this time last year. I have been a workaholic all my life. What would I do when I retire? This question got me worried for my future. V's pictures & videos kept appearing on my fb shorts then. Intrigue, I decided to read the comments and found it's BTS. I looked them up in youtube and was hooked on the Run BTS show. I suddenly find that retiring isn't so boring anymore. I have them to occupy me. It's only later in the year that I got into their music with Mic Drop and have binge watch their mvs. Now it's the reactions I watched. It's like watching with a friend. Although there are those who are reviewing just to have more subscribers, I think I can trust my judgment on who to follow.

Actually as a 62 year old army I have the self confidence to not care what others think but I have witnessed the puzzling looks from the younger generations for my love for BTS. I found BTS a few months after my husband passed away and I was experiencing clinical depression. I was and still am taking care of my mother who is 93 years old and in the last stages of Alzheimer’s disease. BTS set a spark in my brain the first time I saw their performance on TH-cam. They made me feel happy for the first time in a long while. I cannot go a day without BTS.

Bless you for taking care of your mother. I know how difficult that is. I'm thankful you found BTS to give you some happiness! I lost my 91 year old mother in 2020, during the pandemic, but not to Covid. I couldn't even see her in the hospital. It was awful. I found BTS May of 2021; they filled a great void for me and made me feel alive again myself.

My daughter was army first (17), and after bringing her to her first two BTS concerts I (46) fell into the rabbit hole completely because I was so impressed. Not only with BTS’ concert, but the way they spoke to the audience and the feeling of ARMY together in that moment. Watching 70,000 people sing “I’m the one I should love” was truly heartwarming.
The first time I had walked past her room and heard BTS, I was confused because I couldn’t understand the lyrics and I remember asking her about them….she said I was usually so open minded but sounded close minded in that moment. I learned about myself that day and took that as a lesson. Since then BTS has helped me while I have been out of work, when I lost my eyesight temporarily, when I just thought I wasn’t good enough…they reminded me not to give up, and not to live on someone else’s timeline…..I’m happy to know my daughter also hears that message. 💜💜💜💜💜
I’ve gotten much hate and ridicule for “watching a boyband, aren’t you too old for that” how ridiculous….it just makes me laugh now because those are the people missing out.

BTS has been with me through illness & now I am celebrating with them the news of remission. 😊I truly love & am proud of BTS. Proud of how BTS ARMY conduct themselves. I have been a music fan of my generation , Elvis, Beatles, Queen, other Rock & Roll, Pop ,RAP & Vititnam era music, to name but a few. Though I loved the music it was to dance & listen to. I never really got personally involved. They have nothing on BTS. BTS I am involved, proud of the "boys" 7men. I follow like their proud Aunty. Their careers & indevers that all participate in. As a ARMY , fan I can feel proud because the BTS 7 are good, upright citizens of Koria & they never show disrespect of their heritage, country or their parents. I just love them to bits. The music is fun & full of love, hope & BTS support, understand, love& care for the ARMY.BTS are humble & understand how & why they became famous . This reason also helps them with the solo careers. BTS 💜 us. We 💜 them. We are one & this sentence holds true & will stay true & loyal to each other while they go into the Military Service for the country. We, the ARMY, will support them & the solo careers. We the ARMY will be waiting on the other side 💜 & be welcoming, loveing ELDER ARMY. I visited Busan back in may 2013 and back then Psy was all the rage, little did I know that 2 of the members from Busan were about to make their debut in a band that would become world famous. I love all the boys but my bias is jimin such a beautiful dancer and a gentle soul. I retired back in may and the first thing my husband and sons said, you’ll be able to watch more BTS now lol. I can’t wait for 2025 or 2026 whenever they come back I’ve already told my husband if their doing a world tour or concert in seoul I’m going lol.

I'm on ARMY Twitter daily. I know there are many older ARMYs in our community. I always felt welcomed. There's no age discrimination in the community. We are all together to love and support BTS. One advantage of having lots of older ARMYs is that we tend to have more disposable income, which can be spent on helping BTS or members' album releases, buying concerts tickets, or merchandise etc.

Thank you so much. I'm 66 year old ARMY. Since early 2021, through Black Swan MV, I learned about BTS and have never fangirled over a group as I have and am still with BTS. I fully understand the isolation comment you made as we age. First the pandemic, and really since then I still don't go out much except to do necessary shopping or babysit at my daughter's house. BTS is my company, my entertainment, and lately pretty much filling a great void of socialization in my life. I love their back story, love their hard work and dedication, their many talents, their personalities, their poetry, their messages, their voices, their dancing, and even at my age dare I say it doesn't hurt that they are all gorgeous young men too! lol They're all younger than my youngest, so maybe that seems weird, but as a lot of guys used to say to me, It doesn't hurt to look. They make me feel alive, when sometimes being a homebody and pretty isolated makes me feel unworthy of anything. Anyway, thank you for this. Since BTS has found me in 2020, I have come across some female students who are army (ages 18-20). Other than my 40 year old sister and a few older armys I've met online, I haven't met another Silver Army in person. But I have my suspicions of some people. I think, unfortunately, that those people don't feel as comfortable and proud to like BTS. I myself have been criticized by family members who think I'm too old to follow a 20-something Korean boy band. I only know that they bring me joy and so many beautiful moments with their music, their message, their interactions with each other and with the army. That's why I love them. Borahae 💜💜💜

I have never thought it thru this perspective , of how aging make us feel more isolated.
I have a rare self imune condition, so I had to retire before my 40’s , which brought me some sort of isolation. My life at that point was different from the life of my peers. Then the pandemic arrived bringing even more isolation, that’s when I met our golden boys, and yes being part of this group connected me with my own youthful side ( but now with the perks of the maturity I’ve achieved/accumulated) and for me nowadays, to follow these boys who are all about inclusion, tolerance, acceptance and love was a much need breath of fresh air.

I say that if a 71 year old is an avid fan, they need to know why. I say it is because of one word: character. Then i say they need to know who BTS is because they have changed the world. I have a 4-minute spiel about their hatdships, bringing rap and hip-hop to K-pop, their multi-genres, the self-healing work based on Jung and subsequent Love Yourself series, their UN speech and program, and ARMY's world-wide work. How was the male to female ratio at the concert? I imagine Suga (and rapline) pulls in more male fans due to their style of music, hiphop has a large male audience. I'm 69 and a fan. I had heard of BTS, but started paying attention when Suga had shoulder surgery late in 2020. I had just lost my 32-year-old son to cancer, so felt concern for this young man whose life was interrupted by health issues. I saw them on TV and TH-cam quite a bit after that and found they really lifted my spirits. I was so impressed with their intelligence, wit, and positivity. They helped me through a tough time. I'm going to follow them through their time in the military and solo work and hope to see them on stage again, all seven together. Cheers, Silver Army!

This Christmas will be 5 yrs but it still affects me. If not for the boys silliness and fun, I'd be in worse shape than i am now, or just not here at all.
I listened to Suga's lives and his words, i found out what all the guys had been thru and saw and heard some of it as it happened. That riled me up enough to get out of my slump and fight for them and try to help.

I've been ARMY for three years now and I have to say that just in that short time I've noticed a remarkable shift within the fandom when it comes to silver ARMYs like myself (danish, 47 yo). In the beginning there were quite a few instances of young ARMYs attacking us on "the bird app" but over time not only has it happened less and less, it's also being shut down really quickly now by other young ARMYs.
I like to think that it's because the true message of BTS is getting through to more people because if you choose to bully others, be it ARMYs or non-ARMYs, then you clearly haven't understood what these seven young men are really about: Love, acceptance and inclusiveness. It's a message that has drawn so many people to them and each other and I can honestly say that BTS and ARMY are the reasons that I'm still here today.
We see so much negativity and misery on TV but they and my daily interactions with ARMYs all over the world have become my safe space and have helped me restore my rather tattered faith in humanity. There really are a lot of good people out there and BTS has helped bring them together to see and do good in the world.
And of course they make some kick-a$$ music as well..... 😁👍

I'm 38 and a teacher and found BTS last year when I was home sick with Covid (a classic) and bored out of my mind. My students have been fans of BTS for many years and I used to ignore it, because I just knew they were a korean boyband and no, I was not getting into that. :D But I listen to a lot of music and there was a little nagging feeling about not "getting" the hype about BTS. So I looked them up again, listened to Butter and Dynamite, but that didn't catch me at first. Well done songs, but nothing crazy good.
After I had googled them, though, korean TV shows started popping up in my Netflix recommendations and also more videos here on youtube. So I watched "Reply 1988", a TV show I can recommend to anyone. At first I was irritated, because they really act out and blend in sheep sounds at funny moments and everything is loud and chaotic. But I stayed with it because I liked some of the actors and after the fourth or fifth episode, I was hooked. During the isolation with Covid, I watched maybe two Dramas and then found out about korean variety shows.
Long story short: Some time early this year, maybe in February, I watched "In the Soop: Friendcation" because of the actors, but V also participated in that. And they're a group of friends, they sang his songs, they talked about BTS and so I gave it another listen. "Christmas Tree". I was completely stunned, that song was just... Is still so incredibly good. Such a great song.
I watched the BTS "In the soop" seasons, and ever since I find about one more great song each week to just love. This week it was "Awake" of the Wings-Album by Jin.
They're such a diverse band and characters, that you really find something new each week to admire. I also got into "Suchwita" this week and am just so excited for this show.
BTS is so much fun, really wholesome and while getting to know them, I also found a whole new perspective on myself, my life and my work. Things I dreaded, like working out, I enjoy doing now, because I'm just more excited and happy. It's had a tremendous effect on me. I teach philosophy, so it's absolutely fascinating to watch myself in this process. And I truly wish for everyone to have this sense of (in lack of a better word) enlightenment. There's much more gratitude now, much more joy and self-love/ care. Simply much more love maybe.

Thank you for this great review which shows truly why BTS has such a profound effect on the silver Army. I am a 70 yr old silver Army who has loved the boys since 2017. I have watched nearly all their content and love their music. My children ask me what I like about them and I often say I grew up with some of the most brilliant musicians ever, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who etc onto Fleetwood Mac and all the greats of the seventies. But what example did they give us on how to live our lives? Sex, drugs and alcohol and many a youth followed that path to ruin! Many of stars died because of their lifestyle, many took years to wake up to it with some going on to live good lives but they had the money to go to expensive rehabilitation etc, the ones that followed them were often not so lucky. Of course not all followed their ways many just enjoyed their music but they were not great role models and it was understandable that parents did not approve. BTS on the other hand have managed to produce great music of different genres to suit many tastes and at the same time promote self love, and happiness. They have actively fought against bullying and discrimination and addressed mental health and prejudice encouraging youth to love others. Their philanthropic ways have encouraged army to also become philanthropists as well. They are just normal young men and are happy to admit they have faults as well but aim to address them. They encourage the youth to be themselves, be not afraid of the future but embrace it. What would our generation have achieved if we would have had such positive influence in our youth I wonder. How would the world today be different? I am grateful to BTS for the youth of today and the influence they will have on the future. Positive influence can only do good in the long run and the millions of youth out their overflowing with positivity and courage because of these young men is truly heartwarming for the silver Army! 💜💜💜💜💜

I’m 40. BTS is just FUN. I’m not a sports fan but I think it must be something like that for me, the same reason why a 40 year old guy kicks back with a beer to watch the game and cheer for their favorite players. It’s a happy distraction for a while with a mix of inspirational triumph and fan community. When life is a little heavy, it’s refreshing to sit back and laugh at a Run BTS episode or marvel at an amazing performance or reflect on and tear up with some poignant or nostalgic lyrics. I’m not personally any more “into” them than I would be some football quarterback. I enjoy the gorgeous visuals of it all (it’s art! Music, costume, makeup, stage…) but I’m not personally crushing on them, so I have to roll my eyes when all of their talents and positivity are reduced to only that. I’ve never had any personal interest in other music acts, especially not boy groups. I’ve enjoyed lots of music but I haven’t cared about the people behind it and been a “fan.” BTS is just different, and I’m thankful I found them when I did. It makes me a better person to cheer them on because I can feel the positivity it has me stewing in. :)

I think, also, the older ARMYs have the financial resources and decision-making power. They don’t need to ask for parents’ permission, and prob their kids are grown & not needing care - just go book a flight & the hotel, buy tickets, act on their desire to be connected to BTS. I also think they get to live BTS’ message, of loving oneself & speaking oneself, regardless of any stigma, social difference, and bring everybody together across geography and other borders, connect generations and cultures.

Thank you for clarity I can share with friends who don’t understand my interest. My children laugh at my enthusiasm over Korean Church friend I had since the my time living in Korea during the Mid and Late 70’s while being stationed overseas with my husband USAF, I saw all the billboards there as they were just starting up. I am 70 now and wouldn’t exchange these past 10 years for anything, as it was BTS and their music that has helped me through some difficult years after my stroke in 2017 when depression was deep. I am too grateful to the Youthful ARMY who have also been comforting and encouraging to this Silver Army, I wish I could return again to Korea for another visit, but glad I know what I do of them.

Thank You for acknowledging us old folks. We truly love BTS and Army members from around the world. I’m 63 and I have even gotten my husband interested in them. My husband played in rock bands in his younger years. He finds their production on songs very interesting. I’m learning about that side of things from him. JK’s song Euphoria has 80 different tracks on it. It’s amazing the extent they go to for the sound they want. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Definately another thing to admire about them.

I am a 48 year old Army and I am so glad I found them. I feel like Army and BTS are one big family. That feeling is so wonderful and makes me feel not alone. Their laughter is so contagious and when they cry, I just want to gather them up in a big hug and tell them things will be ok. I was criticized for loving BTS. People said I was too old and that it was weird and creepy that I followed them.

Clearly those people don’t know what you are seeing. It’s about Love, caring, uplifting, being real, appreciating the finer qualities of life, integrity, hope, respect. The experience is not tangible for those who don’t know how to see with their heart yet. We are so fortunate and not alone in knowing what really matters in Life. 🤗💜
