    In fact, Suga's parents were both abusive. In a radio interview, Suga mentioned that his father beat him and tore up his lyrics. His father thought that in this way he can force him into an civil servant carrier. Basically, since high school, Suga has to manage himself. He worked in many music studios, but even after signing a contract with the label, he had very big financial problems and had to work various jobs just to survive. Often he had to choose between food and a bus ticket. Also, This maybe controversial, but a lot of fans claim that his mother is sarcastic. It's not sarcasm, his mother constantly criticizes him i.e. for looking like a cooked dumpling, that he doesn't know good English, etc. Suga just presents it in a humorous way, because respect for parents is very important in Korea, and domestic violence/ parental violence is still a taboo.

    I definitely use them as a form of therapy. I don’t know what I would do without their message. I hope they get all the true love they desire because they deserve it. They lead by example and focus on self love and acceptance. When I feel like I’m falling into the darkness I read their lyrics and listen to their music.

    the MUSIC drew me in to BTS at age 73-ish. Watching K dramas introduced me to V's songwriting and I HAD TO KNOW more!. After that I found more content and started asking why BTS wasn't on any USA radio! Told "Not a good fit, Not gonna happen on our station" --this was public radio, with "World Music" programs, mind you! There is a huge bias (jealousy? fear?)against Asian music that I just don't understand. BUT now I have an internet radio that pulls in stations all around the world. I found EXCLUSIVE radio that has an all BTS station, commercial free. BTS is going to blow Western radio/charts/ tix sales, etc out of the water in 2025. YEAH, BTS ARMIES

    It's Suga who had a tough time. His mother had a heart attack the month he was born (I do think he carried guilt). As an adolescent, they wanted him to follow traditional Korean standards of going to school, testing well, and bringing money home. He wanted to be a rapper. So there were teen/parent fights. His father had a liver transplant while they were on tour. It's presumptuous of me to say this, but I think there was lots of alcohol in that family. So at 18, Suga left home (Daegu) and went to Seoul to be a rapper. He was injured in a car accident as a trainee, and didn't tell anyone, not his family, not BTS, not the management. He had psychological problems - OCD, depression, social anxiety, - and got so down that his parents came and they went to the doctor and got help. The situation of seeing his parents in the audience and bowing, a deep deep sign of respect, and sobbing, tells me that something of gratitude and release was working in him. His video, Amygdala, about healing from trauma, is the most powerful of all BTS videos to me, because Ive been there myself. I learned all this from interviews with Suga and documentaries because of my interest in mental health.

    I miss them so much now that all of them are in the military. I was at my lowest and alone in a toxic environment. I felt numb yet I randomly cry, even in public. Their lyrics hurt me so much it felt like my heart was ripped out and crushed. Then I was able to feel again. I felt less alone and understood. They gave many of us ARMYs courage to stand up and love ourselves. I was never a fan of anyone or any group. BTS will be the one and only group I will follow til the end.

    I'm from a very large, Southern, African American family. And when we get together... we eat! We sit around the table, the floor; with many folks preparing in the kitchen; we share food, tasting a little of this & trying a little of that. Tell all the stories that have been told before and laugh. This video makes me appreciate that all the more. - I live across the country from my family now. But this analysis makes me realize why going 'back home' to those meals feels so important to me & my children. 💜

    One more thing--I wonder if you ever want to elaborate on this topic, I would find it interesting to hear why these videos of BTS eating are so popular. You have explained well why eating together is important and creates bonding for the participants--I would love to know your thoughts about what viewers are getting vicariously out of watching them eat. Is it just a sign that too many of us don't have that meaningful connection in our lives and are looking for it, and this satisfies the needs? Are endorphins being released in our own bodies when we watch them eat? The psychology behind this would be interesting! : )

    • @lalaking7974
      @lalaking7974 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's interesting that you would ask this question, because I SO enjoy watching BTS eat! LOL - I think it's because it feels so healthy. We know they work hard (and burn a LOT of calories) so, I think the mom in me is satisfied that they're being fed. I love how they're NOT self-conscious, because... so many people are and are made to feel ashamed about a hearty appetite. And I LOVE, love their bond - as we all do - and that's so evident when they eat together. I just feel happy. - I'd love to hear the psychology behind it too! 🙂💜

      @@lalaking7974 I hear you, esp. as the mom! I'm re-watching old RUN BTS episodes with a favorite reactor channel and I realized how much I hated when food was always the prize because it was a sign that the poor babies were always hungry and didn't get to eat the way they would normally at home. You'll notice over the course of RUN BTS as they get more successful then when they offer food prizes the guys are still positive but they don't literally have hunger in their eyes! They seem so clearly less motivated by food prizes and that was a good turning point to me, because it meant their success had led them to a place where they were much better fed. (Whether in how much food the company could actually afford to buy, or in how much they were allowed to eat.) ANYHOO I don't enjoy seeing them eat as much as seeing them share food and feed each other. It is just so sweet and really shows their brotherhood and genuine care for each other. But I do like to see them eat when it shows they are truly relaxed and enjoying the moment. Like FESTAs when they are actually eating (that time when they had to literally pry the bowl out of JK's hands) and that means they are so comfortable in that moment with ARMY that it is like we are there with them. Or when you compare how the members are on SUCHWITA with Suga with other guests who come, who don't seem to eat (which makes sense--I would never be eating while on a talk show!) it is another sign of how comfortable they are with each other and with their fans watching.

      @@tubenamel GREAT observation about their earlier vs later reactions to food in Run BTS. I'll have to watch for that. And it also reminds me of a seeing young Jin talk about wanting to be able to eat more and not being allowed to. Broke my heart! - Lastly, speaking of prying the food away from JK... his episode of Suchwita!!! 😅 Ate his way through the ENTIRE episode. lol - They're just the best! Borahae 💜

    Dr. Harley, this was such an interesting video you made. We raised our kids with having mealtimes together, and they are now all well-adjusted adults, but living as singles. I miss those days sometimes, and now consider it a wonderful time when we eat together as a family, and now I know some of the reasons why, thanks to you. Now that my husband and I are basically empty nesters, holding jobs with opposite shifts, we only have this opportunity on weekends, so we make sure to enjoy meals together on weekends. As a caregiver for disabled people, I see how my clients too often must feel lonely since they often don’t get to eat with others present. Most of them will invite me to eat when they do. These days, it is quite sad to see too many people eating alone, so I would like to make an effort to do more of this type of food sharing and eating with loved ones. Blessings to you!

    Over lockdown, even though we were all in the house together for prolonged periods of time, or probably because of that, my family of four started eating meals at our computers/devices, all of us with noise cancelling headphones on, watching YT or Netflix or whatever. It is s a comforting habit, but a horrible one, because even now, three years later, we don't eat together ever unless we go out to a restaurant. Definitely a contributing factor to how stressed we all are, but again, a hard habit to break. Talking over food now feels intrusive of our own need for personal space. Weird.

    When I started watching Korean Drama’s my heart was filled to see the families would have breakfast and dinner together and I absolutely love it! When I was a child our family had dinner together, when I was married I expected my family to eat dinner together but it just didn’t work because everyone was so busy. Being alone now I really miss eating (or trying) eating together. I guess that’s why I love watching the family tradition in Korean drama’s l. When I saw BTS and another boy band do their eating together and feeding each I smiled and said “awww that is so nice”. I love these young men and how they show love for each other and their love for their followers. They are giving great examples to the young people. Thank you Dr. Harley for this video 🙏🏾💜

    Seeing Jin and Joonie prepare their First FESTA Dinner on their tiny kitchen's floor really drove home the significance of Asian Cultures' leaving shoes at the front door. Sitting on the floor and using cushions and a low table are Korean Tradition, as the first heating systems were pipes that took the warmth from a central stove and distributed it throughout the structure.
