Man, I don't wanna get into this cuz everyone's a genius and has their mind up so I'm wasting my time typing this. But Bowe did not duck Lewis. He was in talks to fight Lewis in 93 but Lewis wanted too much and his manager was playing games so, naturally, negotiations broke down and he opted for Michael Dokes then Ray Mercer, so long as Mercer beat journeyman Jesse Ferguson. Well, Bowe KOd Dokes but Mercer lost to Ferguson. The WBA told Bowe he would be stripped of his belt if he fought Ferguson instead of Lewis. Bowe didn't want to be bullied by anyone so, instead of being stripped he held a press conference and dumped the belt in the garbage. He quit before he could be fired. He was metaphorically saying "this belt and the WBA are garbage to me, they don't mean anything." Somehow, over time, Internet trolls interpreted that as Bowe being scared ergo Bowe's sour rep today.

Some Tyson fanboys have said, well after the fact, that Tyson wrecked Razor. Meaning, Lewis fought a shot version - utter nonsense. History proves them wrong. Razor, with his new trainer, Floyd Patterson, had two fights after Tyson before this fight with Lewis. Both wins were by knockouts. In Razor's last fight before this, he looked his very best fighting against an undefeated knockout artist Phillip Jackson. Ruddock finally started to use his jab as Floyd Patterson was imploring him to do. Jackson was 25-0 with 23 knockouts and Ruddock knocked him out in 4 rounds. The Tyson myth had most people thinking Ruddick was a sure thing . . . little did they know. Lewis was a spectacular fighter who was spectacularly ducked. (Boxing needed a Dana White to stop all that ducking nonsense.)

Lennox lewis didn't face evander holyfield until Nearly the end of the Decade. in which second bout i enjoyed more than De la hoya vs Trinidad in which all bouts took place in 1999
The "Razor" had clearly dulled by this point. But it was Lewis' biggest win by far up to that point and clearly made him the #1 contender. Too bad Bowe (or Rock Newman?) ducked him. Would've been a damn interesting fight.
Not true; he had two fights after Tyson and before this fight. Both wins were by knock outs. He looked his very best fighting against an undefeated knockout artist Phillip Jackson. Ruddock finally started to use his jab as Floyd Patterson was imploring him to do. Jackson was 25-0 with 23 knock outs and Ruddock knocked him out in 4 rounds.
Robert J Barnes First off...I'm not a Tyson 'fan boy' as you tried to lump me in as in that post you have. Second, WHO THE HELL is Phillip Jackson? As soon as he fought non-bums, he was exposed as the glorified journeyman he was. You didn't mention that after that 25-0 start, he went 19-13 for the remainder of his career, typically against better caliber of heavyweights. Ruddock before and after Tyson simply wasn't the same fighter. Anyone with any sense could see that. I didn't say Tyson 'wrecked' Ruddock...I stated that Ruddock was dulled by this point. And that was absolutely true.
Manu Ginobilis Bald Spot You said " The "Razor" had clearly dulled by this point." Well, prove it. My point is that here is no proof that he was any less of a fighter. And that he may have actually improved. Obviously, the 25-0 with 23 knock outs, Phillip Jackson, was thought of highly enough to be in a title elimination bought against number one ranked Ruddock. In this fight, his new trainer, Floyd Patterson, finally got Razor to use his jab to set up power shots. He used the jab far more frequently than in recent past fights. He looked better than he did in any previous fight. Therefore, you cannot say, with any basis, that Razor was any less of a fighter when he fought Lewis.
Manu Ginobilis Bald Spot All this idiot Barnes can do is spew and quote verbatim that someone else said then reply back with the same nonsense,,,,lol ...Ruddock fought a Popscicle in Jackson who never fought back that is his evidence of Razor looking his best....lol
Riddick Bowe is all mouth but shit himself when Lewis beat Ruddock as he was up next. Stained his career with a cowardly, high profile duck of Lewis. Bowe will always be the fake who ducked a real fighter.
Back when rules made sense: no standing 8 count, no 3 knockdown rule. Back when Joe Cortez was a good referee instead of a wannabe TV star with that annoying catch phrase ("Remember, I'm firm but I'm fair" 🙄). And he didn't try to pad the delay between a fighter getting up from a knockdown and resuming the fight. Nowadays a standing 8 count can turn into a 20 second delay, between a slow count, wiping the gloves, asking the downed fighter if he's okay, are you sure? wipe the gloves again, telling the other fighter to return to the neutral corner, then finally letting the fight resume after the stunned fighter had half a minute to recover.
Agree .. Tyson really put him through 2 brutal fights . But i think the difference between Lewis-Ruddock , while both were big punchers .. was Lewis was an intelligent fighter , who used his jab and looked for openings . Ruddock was just a one trick fighter , looking for one big punch . The way he fought Tyson was never going to work .

Ruddock doesn't get a lot of props, but he gave a very prime Tyson all sorts of problems, didn't fear him at all when half the heavyweight division had lost the fight through terminal jelly legs before they had even climbed the ropes, in perspective, if Razor was prime now, Deontay would be known as a serviceable sparring partner

ruddock was never the same after tyson wars.
Yeah I agree
HAHHAH. He went on to win the WBO belt and won the Canadian belt when he was 50. You just cant handle the fact lennox smashed ruddock in 4 minutes and mike needed a corrupt ref and 17 rounds to get the job done
Tyson and ruddock never the same after the 2 fights.

Bowe Ducking Harder Than Floyd
131313manbearpig Actually Lewis ducked Bowe.
FactOverFiction bowe threw the wbc belt away what is that called?? ,ducking
This was to me Lennox Lewis s Coming Out Party and he did in Spectacular Fashion Destroying Razor Ruddock in 2 I thought Lennox Lewis overall was a Great Fighter Got The Credit he Deserves HOF in Canastota NY
Lennox was the man that made Tyson want to almost retire. Tyson was NEVER the same after he fought Lennox. Tyson said that Lennox hit him the hardest he was ever hit. Lennox is a true warrior champion. I'm an American saying that. Respect to England for having this champ !
Lennox's ring IQ was one of the best in boxing. Cool, calm, and collected.
Lennox Lewis is overrated he never beat a legendary heavy weight like Ali did ☝️
There is so much to say about this video. First, what a knockout by Lennox. Just beautiful. What a crazy crowd.
And the intro from the Tales from The Crypt guy. That thing scared the hell out of me when it was a kid.
And that preview for Bowe Holyfield is amazing.
I wonder if Riddick Bowe would have dumped his belt into the trash bin if Ruddock had won this fight instead of Lewis. Was Bowe afraid of only Lewis, or Ruddock as well?
+9th Marquess how could bowe be so big but scarred
AnthonyJ74. Bowe would've fought Razor Ruddock. But he was afraid of Lennox Lewis.
Jose Cedillo.. View and Tyson were cowards! They only fought men they were comfortable with. Tyson ducked George Foreman, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield back in 91', Tyson even side stepped "Merciless" Ray Mercer. Riddick Bowe ducked Lennox Lewis!
@@raulrodriguez2311 Tyson never ducked Holyfield he should fought him in 1991 November 8th Plus It's Holyfield who fight Foreman instead of Tyson more early Tyson never ducked Foreman he said he want to fight him in many interview

Numerous people have told the same story about when king told Tyson he was going to setup fight between him and foreman they all confirmed the same quote Tyson said. "I'm not fighting that guy he's a fucking animal" cups and Tyson would watch foreman fights when he was a kid and cus told mike you never wanna fight an animal like foreman. Foreman would of kod Tyson in 3 rounds. Iron mike was tailor made for big George. Foreman had more heart and more of a chin to beat mike if it turned into a war/slugfest
Beautiful over-hand right ( 1st Knockdown )
thank you yet again
So who did Lennox he fight next ? He never fought Bowe.
He fought Tony Tucker after Ruddock
The macintosh computer used here was a powerbook released in 1991. .in 1989 the macintosh portable was released
Ruddick is one of the best victories Tyson has under his belt......Hmmm
Sandy Combs Like Patterson said: He had to many bad habits. I believe he had talent, but he was to sloppy, and you can't afford that against the heavy bombs of fighters like Tyson, Lewis or Morrison. He even got clipped by a stepping stone once.
Tyson took a lot of fight out of him with those beatings, breaking his ribs and his jaw. He wasn't the same fresh, confident fighter.

Ruddock was crazy to go toe to toe with Lewis. At this time, Lewis was about to elevate himself into the great that he was. Ruddock should’ve fought him like he did Tyson, staying close and keeping him tied up.
Actually Lennox Lewis is Canadian as well
Lennox 'Legend' Lewis is the GOAT
No he really isn’t
Not even close to being the goat

One of the most anticipated fights I remember, rushing out of my dishwashing job late at night to catch this Halloween special...to bad Tyson beat Ruddock real bad,i don't think he was the same fighter may have turned out different? But Lennox one of the best ever...Ruddock has an amateur win over Lewis and gave holmes hell as a sparring partner. He was disliked so much at one time his manager Chuvalo wanted Tyson to win!
Lewis hit him right on the ear drum.no way to recover from that.a good punch there and everything start spinning sometimes for hours
rufus Zufall yea would have liked to see rematch, though I think Ruddock was finished after 2 brutal Tyson fights, despite looking good after with Jackson who didn't fight at all, despite what some morons posting on this vid THINKS!
Ruddock was my favourite HW back in the day until he met Tyson, my other favourite and got his ass handed to him, but that rematch with Tyson was a HELL of a bout, it won Ring Magazines "Fight of the year" if my memory serves me correctly. Ruddock was an absolute warrior through and through. Mike Tyson broke his jaw in the 7th or 8th round and he didn't even flinch! Kept battling on all the way til the end. Also one of the best left hooks/uppercuts i've EVER seen. You're right though, he was never the same after those 2 losses to Mike, but he was an awesome fighter and a great contender in his day. I would suggest the Ruddock vs Dokes fight, absolutely DEVASTATING knock out.
@@ReservoirPunk yeah ruddock was a fierce puncher but lacked technical skills to beat the top HWs at that time and also he got a near peak Prime Tyson and that's a tough hot plate for anyone to take care of

Lennox was awesome.
Styles make fights: razor isn’t washed up. Stylistically his approach had to b different. He was fighting under a new trainer n also a 6’5” Lewis n not a 5’11” Tyson. Through the amateur bout n sparring Lennox earned respect. Versus Tyson Razor, wrong or not, was really trying to prove something n show A) Tyson was hype 2) he was the bigger man
Tyson wasn't hype Tyson whooped 2 guys who had ass whooped ali that shows you how good he really was
Come on lol, Ali was a million years old when he lost to those guys
This is PRIME Lennox Lewis. If he had fought Tyson during this period, Lewis would have knocked him out in 3 rounds! Guaranteed.
Nice performance for sure. But Lewis seemed to get even better under Emmanuel Steward.

***** And you would be wrong. You sought out my comments on entirely different threads - not the other way around. I wonder, is this how you deal with being wrong so may times? You just make shit up?
You haven't made one salient point. Not one; mostly, you just lie to yourself.
i'm scoring a shut out.
Robert J Barnes I was clearly there first ,regardless you must like the punishments i give to you on everyone !
Manu Ginobilis Bald Spot You said "
The "Razor" had clearly dulled by this point."
Well, prove it.
***** Interesting that you say that considering I have out-classed you on every point.
Who can say someone, that Tyson was the best Boxer,

Damn where's the tracking button.
That 1'2 Combination that put Donovan down 👀 32:19
Riddick Bowe is all mouth but shit himself when Lewis beat Ruddock as he was up next. Stained his career with a cowardly, high profile duck of Lewis. Bowe will always be the fake who ducked a real fighter.
Soooo where is the Meldrick Taylor fight?!
In other TH-cam video.

Ruddock was an awesome puncher!! But he was never the same after he took those two beatings from Mike Tyson.

I have to disagree entirely with you. You sure can't compare Donovan Ruddock to iron Mike Tyson. Iron Mike Tyson beat trevor berbick in 2 rounds in 1986. Trevor berbick went 15 rounds against Larry holmes at his ultimate best in 1981.
Lewis this was a fight than made everyone stand up as he destroyed Ruddock in two rounds
