Still won a Commonwealth Heavyweight title and European Boxing Union Heavyweight title. 19 wins, 4 losses (none of them KO's) at the time he fought Lewis. Was a good boxer. Disagree about him physically. Derek looks fleshy and is definitely carrying some extra pounds around the midriff. Looks half a stone too heavy. If he was on better shape, he'd have probably lasted longer. Was never going to win though.
Lewis looked like that he regressed during this fight -compared to previous ones- and/or simply had a big-time 'off' night: He was very inactive for the most part, threw very few combinations, and was very stationary. He looked extraordinarily beatable -compared to previous fights. If he fought this way, this night, against the top heavyweights of the day, he would've easily lost...
This was true for Lewis quite often until he hired Emmanuel steward. Arguably lost against Merciless Ray Mercer, very likely should have been a draw. Looked very beatable. Manny made him take like a year off - outside the ring - and rebuilt his entire style. Post 1998 Lennox Lewis - the time when he finally looked like an all time great - owes a lot to manny’s influence.

That stoppage was definitely premature but if the fight would have continued I doubt Williams would have survived much longer.
