Michelle Williams deserves her Oscar, she should've won for My Week with Marilyn and Blue Valentine. Natalie Portman is also fantastic. Some of the best actresses of our time, no doubt!
It's fascinating watching two amazing actresses you grew up watching finally interviewing each other. And you can really see how genuinely interested they are at each others' experiences. Variety should have more of these every month.
I shouldn't be surprised by all the critical comments, but I am. I think this was an excellent interview. The woman are down-to-earth but with so much substance. Two incredibly talented and articulate women.
@KesselRunHero and the part where portman whispers about girls going into science...propaganda. this has been talked about. the media has been doing this thing in recent times where they pressure girls to go into this field, which the majority have been consistently disinterested in.
I love these two together and I can't get over it! Not only are they two of the most gorgeous and talented women working in Hollywood, they both come across as smart and more importantly, kind. Michelle is such a great interviewer! She doesn't seem to be thinking about her answers, next questions or stories while Natalie speaks, she seems genuinely interested and dazzled by her. I love this series and this episode was especially wonderful to watch. This is how interviews should be and this is how women should speak to and treat each other! Good on you, Variety for this series and putting these classy ladies together.
So many people are commenting that Natalie is inarticulate. As someone pursuing a PhD, people assume you speak eloquently, which is not my strong suit. I can write like no tomorrow and use $20 words. But when in person, I struggle to get the words out. And that's okay. Natalie does something similar, and is nothing for anyone to judge. We all have flaws when speaking.
Hi Sarah, I know you posted your comment several months ago but I just discovered it. I too am much better expressing myself on paper than in person. I think it is because we are introverts, don't you?
I was first introduced to Michelle Williams basically 20 years ago on a little teen show called, Dawson's Creek. It's quite amazing to see her transcend from that piece of television as a late teen into a woman who has aged very beautifully.
***** I was just being sarcastic, jeez..lol I watched DC from the first episode back in H.S. all the way till the end. But yeah because she's a good and humbled actress.
What a relief to watch two actors talking who are for one, not speaking over one another, but who are also not consumed with weird energy. The subtle differences in conversational mannerisms in these interviews is weirdly revealing. Watching these two I am suddenly aware of how affected and self-conscious some others have come across.
When you're bilingual and come from an academic background, you are constantly looking for the best words and phrases to explain yourself while speaking, specially with complex conversations: your range of expressions is larger. By the time you went for the one you found best (never sure of it) you already lost fluidity and unconsciusly used a blank word to gain time (like "like"). I'm sure this is Natalie's case.
Thank you! I thought the same. Those comments about "they are so inarticulate" are so annoying. I understand that it can throw someone off but it's not a reason to call someone dumb or anything like that. The use of certain words is not an ultimate sign of intelligence. Someone who did not learn certain words or a way of speaking can very well be intelligent.
Well but's it's not like she's using the pretty words in this conversation following all the likes. Besides Natalie Portman's native language is English. She learned Hebrew afterwards.
Fuzzy Dunlop do you have the BA In cinema? No i do, so don't go around calling people idiots for their (entitled to) opinions. If duck face acting is your thing more power to you.
I got so excited when Michelle mentioned Kelly Reichardt, she's one of the best directors today, imo. Very underseen too. And their collaborations are always lovely.
It was so eerie when Natalie talked about how age 11 is a pivotal time where your career instincts kick in&you just kind of know what you want to do for the rest of your life because that's EXACTLY how old I was when I realized I wanted to be an actor. #accurate
how far have michelle came, from dawson creek, to halloween horror movie to oscar nomination just wow natalie always been doing quite good since her childhood with the movies she pick, only a few a miss hit
I love Michele Williams in depressing roles!!lol. Actually she shines in them. From Blue Valentine to Take this Waltz to even the series finale of Dawson's Creek which breaks my heart till this day lol.
manchesster by the sea is my favourite movie of the last 20 years alongside interstellar. incredible incredible incredible writing, acting, directing, casting, everything.
its weird (not the right word) when natalie is talking about not being able to imagine what her character has gone through when Michelle went through something very similar.
Cierra Yeah. I think it's Cuz she was tryina be sensitive to her, cuz of course she knows what happened with her, but she wanted to just stay on subject about the film and not insinuate or attempt to touch on what happened to her with Heath. But yeah... weird (again, not the right word... maybe awkward...?)
The weird thing is she seems to notice right after she started talking, so she tries to back off and not being too insensitive. She's so graceful. (Both of them)
Well similar in a sense that father of her child dies, but not like her husband, president of the US being assassinated in front of her on a public event. So its not that similar at all.
Excellent actresses interview;Natalie & Michelle are really two of the best movie actresses in the industry i loved Michelle in Fosse/verdon bio miniseries ;she really deserved the best drama actress in a limited miniseries aware her portrayal of Gwen was impeccable!
They should do an interview with Natalie Portman and Katie Holmes to learn about how they both played Jackie and other roles in their lives. Both classy actresses. Would love to see a long over due interview of them both.
Jesus Christ, the comments on this are so judgey and pissy. For two minutes, Natalie over used the word like, and hats all you focus on? It's obvious it's a touchy and uncomfortable subject for her. Nobody else has a tic when they're nervous? Get over it. And also, fucking baby brain is real. Stop jusging.

2 American actresses that so many people find it hard to believe they aren't. So many people I have talked to both thought they were foreign. But they are both just amazing! ❤️
somehow they both were visible nervous and started to "like" all the time it became embarrassing. I feel for them. so sad they felt awkward. Love them and admire them both so so much 💗
m martin I'm pretty sure that Arif was joking, have a chuckle. You should look up some interviews with either woman, they both have a good sense of humor about people thinking that they are the other Michelle.
This feels like a mirror mirror episode of Jackie Kennedy & Marilyn Monroe having a normal conversation Creepy...... Theres also a sort of tension between the the two of them in the very beginning still interesting though
YES!! I noticed the tension too and mentioned it above. I feel like its coming more from Natalie, Michelle is being more laid back. Michelle always says she is shy and Natalie supposedly has a genius IQ, but ironically I find Michelle to be more socially aware. Natalie Portman was just kind of awkward honestly. She is a good actress don't get me wrong, but I don't think she is AMAZING. Michelle I do think is amazing, Brokeback, Marilynn, Manchester by the sea, take this waltz, etc.....
Someone at Variety has a good sense of humor putting Jackie Kennedy And Marilyn Monroe together in this interview.
Karen Watson omg hahhahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahah never realised hahahhahahahaha
How about Padme Amidala meets Glinda.
Omg so right!!
Omg I didn't think of that lololol 😂😂
It would have been a DC reunion if it was w/ Katie, since she played Jackie Kennedy too 😂😂
Michelle Williams is so underrated, easily one of the best actress of her generation!!!
Natalie too
Agreed.
omg seriously ? over over rated. terrrible
Aaron David i agree with you, Overrated!!!
Aaron David terrible lol based on what all her awful performances gets grip
Michelle Williams deserves her Oscar, she should've won for My Week with Marilyn and Blue Valentine. Natalie Portman is also fantastic. Some of the best actresses of our time, no doubt!
Ernesto agree , but the Oscar is going to viola Davis this time... she deserves it also
Gino Cassano I guess we'll find out next year. I wish everyone the best.
Ernesto a

Ernesto Natalie won for Black Swan beating Michelle for Blue Valentine.

She's also bilingual and fluent in her 2d language

It's called anxiety and introversion 🤣

Tommy Siro Yeah and both seem like they haven't aged all that much lol
same here she was my favortie (Jennifer Lindley) on Dawson I'm so happy I mean 4 nominations, she's underrated actress and one of the best
so much beauty and grace in one video
Natalie Portman is my favorite actress. She is so beautiful!!!

I think that the reason were rather nerves / excitement caused by difficult subject (unfulfilled ambitions)
No, she just has a bad habit. It doesn't mean she is not intelligent, but she is inarticulate.
Well but's it's not like she's using the pretty words in this conversation following all the likes. Besides Natalie Portman's native language is English. She learned Hebrew afterwards.
That happens to me holy shit you explained it so perfectly
Two of my favourites, they are so special, so expressive and intelligent, not speaking about beauty.
I really hope Michelle Williams gets the Oscar. She really deserves it this time.
Alan Helfenstein for what, pursing her lips and looking seductive? She can't act her way out of a paper bag.
Natalie Zayas-Bazan z
You're clearly an idiot, she's one of the best actresses in the world.
Fuzzy Dunlop do you have the BA In cinema? No i do, so don't go around calling people idiots for their (entitled to) opinions. If duck face acting is your thing more power to you.
Hollywood obviously views her as a wonderful actress. But sure, we'll take the word of some random no one on the internet....
Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman are by far my favorite actresses.
Two of the best '80s born actresses.
Wow, they both bring such a reality to acting as a profession as opposed to the glamorized Hollywood view that we all think of.
Michael Kao That's why I love these interviews.
Michelle deserves the Oscar so much.
Natalie is insanely gorgeous!!!!!
I don't know what Michelle has been saying, because I'm mesmerised by her beauty.
OMG these two ladies!!!!
Natalie is amazing such a great person too that is why she is my favorite actress can't wait too see Jackie
I would say exactly the same except change I'd Natalie for Michelle and Jackie for Manchester By Sea.
Two of my favourite actresses!
Two of the best actress of their generation.
Portman? Really?
Right?
BBBJOT What's wrong with Portman? She is terrific
I just realized both of them played JFK's girls. Jackie and Marilyn.
Ugh.
They played characters. They aren't defined by a man

Two beautiful soft spoken people talking about each others profession.
