The biggest difference between her and other child stars I noticed, is a pattern of her being VERY protected by cast, crew, and her mother. It takes a village they do say and she was lucky to be surrounded by great people not just professionally but personally as well.

For the former child actors who are typical, healthy adults (who may still be in the industry), I notice they have the same experiences of being super protected on sets. They didn’t know all the drama, they weren’t going out, they had their parents on set at all times. But the sets themselves were kid-friendly.
I also don’t think there are a LOT of former child actors who went off the rails, we just obviously hear about the ones who did. But most of them are functional, regular adults, whether or not they continued in the tv and film industries.

It's SO refreshing to see a child star who grew up to be a normal, functional adult, still acting, so naturally talented, NOT a nepo baby, totally unproblematic, just a normal person with a good head on her shoulders who happens to be a famous actress. And to top it off she's talented and she makes great film choices. She's a rare gem in a town like Hollywood. If more actors were like her, people wouldn't hate celebrities so much.

I so relate to her on this, & as an adult, really, really am thankful for this. Far too often little girls try to grow up too quickly, to adulthood & past childhood, for which you can never get back. So I'm very thankful for my late blooming, as it was.

@@TMV420 I know awards are not important if the movie connects with an audience, but only one Oscar nomination? And being known as Mary Jane for so long with that many impecable performances even as a child? I usted to think some actors deserved more. I'm tired of these new faces EVERYWHERE when people like her seem overlooked. But then I understood that some actors love the craft and aren't as mediatic, that's why we don't hear about them so often, they aren't craving attention. The Spider-Man audition story when she goes back in the room for her CD case, and then said she could tell from the looks on their faces, she had the role and thought, “You did it, you nailed it”…..I love that she said that bc so many women feel like they have to play coy when they’re amazing at something. I was coming here to make almost this EXACT COMMENT. Too often female celebrities seem to feel like they can’t accept their well-earned compliments because they’ll be accused of “having an ego”, or they feel like they need to go far to the other end of the spectrum, which is self-confidence to the point of disregarding all the people and circumstances that helped support them getting to where they are. Kirsten Dunst balances this beautifully. Confidence, gratitude, pride in her work ethic, well aware of the opportunities afforded to her… incredibly refreshing, I agree!

Maguire's Spiderman ruined my childhood. The Maguire spiderman/Peter Parker was intentionally designed to ruin a young boy's confidence and self esteem. Back when I was a child, the Maguire Kristen trilogy gave me a false picture of ideal male behaviour when it comes to relationships with women. Maguire's Peter was a loser and Dunst's MJ was everything a man should run away from. Instead my early childhood self falsely assumed these two were the ideal man and woman. Never show your sons the Maguire version. It'll 100 percent deplete their confidence. Show them the Garfield version instead. Garfield's Peter is what young men should aspire to be (I'm not blaming the actors in any way. They're just actors following the director's orders. I'm talking about the characters they played)

She has always killed it. Also, her line "He's been chasing us since Woodhaven Blvd."! in Spider-Man, got a full standing ovation from my theater, which was on Woodhaven Blvd., in Queens.

Her work catalogue is so good, one of my favorite actresses of this generation.
