  • Detailed review of riding impressions of this new motorcycle, Honda NC700X, with emphasis on the engine feel and performance as a low RPM engine of new design.
Comparison to Honda CBR 250 for my subscribers that ride that bike.
Also, comparison to BMW F650 GS as a second twin cylinder bike in the same engine CC and style class (touring, adventure).

Decided one bike from now on so recently traded an FJR1300 and SH150 for a 2018 NC750X DCT. Added center stand, piug windscreen with visor, and Honda trunk. After only 500 miles it's hats off to Honda once again, I have been NC'd!

Thanks for the review. I appreciated the approach you took in talking about the riding experience. Due to injuries, I may need to get a smaller, easier to handle touring bike so I am awaiting the arrival of the CTX700 series. The motor is my concern, so I appreciated your comments on this motor.

Me too! I went by a Honda dealer two weeks ago (Mid March '13) in Atlanta. None of the 500cc bikes are in stock and they still did not have a delivery date (or were not talking about a delivery date yet). The X model is not priced yet (see Honda web site) but the CBR500R will be $5,999 and the CB500F will be $5,499.
Honda is making things exciting with these new models. Great to see the 500cc bike coming back!

I recently bought a CB500X, and I love it as a around town and commuter bike. I've travelled on the highway for over 100kms and it's fine. I bought the centre stand and intend to get the extended windscreen too, but other than that, I have zero complaints. Fuel economy is good too. Don't hesitate, you will love it.

Man, you do excellent reviews, I have a CBR250 and have been thinking about the nc700x or the BMW g650gs for the adjustable low seat height I'm a 5 foot 3 inch woman ;). I have sat on the NC700x at the dealer and felt fatigue on my left calf just holding the bike up for about 3 minutes. But the bike seems like a real nice bike, I'm still undecided. Great review

I'm trying to decide between those two bikes as well, except I'm 5'10''. Definitely a tough choice, but I think I like the Honda better!

Nothing like rolling through a fast food drive through with no bag, and then placing your food in the front compartment and driving off. Awesome.

Another great review. Your CBR250 Review was part of why its my first bike... i did right at the end of the season up here take the nc700X for a spin was awesome fun but since ive only been licensed since this summer figure i should put at least another season on the CBR before i look at upgrading or adding a second bike.... wish i lived somewhere i could ride all year... oh well will just have to go ski with poisedonis i guess

Thanks so much for your excellent review. I am looking at this of motorcycles. I commute everyday here in South Florida (other than the hardcore summer days) and I also love to go spot touring on my bike. The bikes that made my list are the BMW700gs, the Triumph Tiger 800, The Honda NC700x and the CB500x and the Vstrom 650 and the Kawi Versys 650. Very tough choice, I'm having a hard time making up my mind, specially because Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki dealers don't do demo rides.

Great review, I already have too many bikes but since the first time I saw a NC700 I've wanted to add one to the stables. Looks like a great around town bike.

Great video! I bought one of these in the UK in September 2012 coming from a 14 year old Kwaka GPZ500s. Really nice bike to ride very comfy too. Only advice I could give to prospective buyers is avoid offers of taller touring screens. I bought the bike with a taller screen, the effect of the increase in air pressure at the top of the screen weakens the rubber grommets holding it to the speedo mount assembly thus the screen becomes loose and will fall off. Other than that great bike.

Me too, agree on all your choices. I'm really interested in the CB500x with ABS. Honda's site is indicating an ABS version, but the picture does not hyperlink yet, which tells me the model is not ready for delivery. CB500x, center stand, heated grips, ABS...seems like a real option.
And, yes, we thing you guys are all hitting it rich "down there."
    Thanks for watching and posting.

I love my CBR250RA as well but have been thinking about adding the NC700X to my garage as well. Thanks for your comments. I think my Honda dealer here in PA would let me ride one so I'll do that before dropping for one.
    - Course, since I found my R1150RT my street riding is handled. A DR650 or similar may still may be added to my posse.

Thanks for this video. I live in west GA, and am a new rider. I just bought a Honda 150 scooter as my first bike. But am already looking at models to "dream" about what my upgrade will be. I like the automatic, and this 700 has an automatic with abs option. Two set backs are the insurance co rates this as a sport bike, and two it is tall. I am 5'6 and think it would be uncomfortable to me. Thanks again.

I just rode the new CBR500. Sorry to say, I like my NC700x much better. I added a Leo Vince exhaust that adds a bit of character to the bike. The top box is just so convenient.

Yes, the truth hurts...but hope is on the way! Looking forward to seeing the new Honda 500x model. Dealers in US are slow to get these new 500cc models. Honda's website suggest an ABS version is coming. Certainly is a suspect for next bike. By the way, agree with you on the V Strom. The wide seat just makes it a bit intimidating for, short, riders. Thanks for posting and watching!

  • @hgl1001

I have and think it's an excellent bike. It may be the best bike in class but it is a taller, bulkier bike than the Honda. I'm a little concerned about that for shorter riders, but for taller riders I'd say that it should be a highly ranked consideration, There were at least 6 of them at Rider's Hill (shown in video) out of about 20 to 25 bikes showing the popularity and strong reputation of the V Strom. Bottom line, it's high on my list if I can get on the beast!

do you think the nc700x is the successor to the former honda transalp?

  • @hgl1001
    @hgl1001  11 ปีที่แล้ว

There are three new bikes coming out (maybe more but three I know about): CBR500R $5,999, the CB500F $5,499 and the one I have my eye on--
The CB500X -- not yet priced but you can see in on Honda's website.
I hope to be reviewing (and maybe owning) that bike soon.

  • @Wabbit1961

You're short by your own admission. The V-Strom is a VERY tall bike. I've owned one. I'm 6'2". Nice bike, but taller than the NC700X because the seat is wider. I'd suggest you throw a leg over a Triumph Bonneville. VERY affordable for the displacement of the bike, and not something you'll want to upgrade from too soon. Tons of accessories for it too. Even though it's an 850cc bike, it is very laid back in terms of power, so it is not a scary ride. Windscreen would be the first.

I will be looking at the NC700X, i want to give it a good long test ride, I will not consider the 500x as i believe it is MFR'd in Singapore. If not Japanese. built I dont want it.
The NC700X has a fairly long suspension travel and can EASILY be lowered 1" front and rear, the Maintenance on the NC700X is GREAT, I can work on it at my house, No sync of Efi, No shim over bucket valves but screw & nut adjustment of valves, and racing around about 65 mpg and as high as 87 MPG! ! ! ! !

Thanks for watching and commenting. I want to check out the Honda 500x when available. The NC700x is a great concept, and the ride really was fine around the overall experience. However, I'm leaning to a more traditional motorcycle engine. Again, thanks for watching and commenting.

Throw a leg over the new Suzuki V- Strom 650 ABS as well. They just arrived in Australia , the CB500R and F , X later on , no prices yet. Would be dearer in Australia , compared to US , even though they have less distance for delivery ? They must think we are all RICH miners ? CB500X and NC700X and V-Strom 650 are all on my list to test ride .

  • @hgl1001
    @hgl1001  11 ปีที่แล้ว

Don't really know--the NC700x is all new. What it looks like Honda is doing is producing a single model in each category for global distribution to lower manufacturing costs instead of some bikes for, say, Europe and some for the U.S.., etc. The TransAlp was not sold in the US. I believe Honda did not think the TransAlp would sell in the U.S.--it would now--adventure-tour bikes are everywhere now.

I'd be keen on the 500 variant of this (and perhaps even the 700 version shown here) if it were belt driven, instead of chain. I don't think I can work up enthusiasm for a chain driven bike; too much upkeep.
