    I'm shocked to hear about Costco's vehicle battery warranty policy. Interstate batteries used to be one of the best but for some reason the ones Costco sells are cheap junk and and their warranty policy is illegal. Otherwise Costco is a great store. I'm sure the Costco CEO would find it in their best interest to fix this issue.

      My story goes back to the 1980s. I had a Sears Diehard battery in my AMC Hornet. I left my headlights on, and they were on for 14 hours. When I came out in the morning, I saw the lights were on and turned them off. The big six cylinder engine started right up. No doubt a V-8 would have started just as quickly.
      Try that today, and I'm not sure what would happen. I have left headlights on for much shorter periods and had to charge the battery or use the jumper. Also, I am not sure about the quality of the Costco batteries. I am not certain that the Interstate batteries Costco sells are the same grade as the Interstates the shops and service stations sell.
      No great complaints about Costco batteries though. They have changed their warranty policy. My present battery is under the old warranty, but I have received a free replacement already. I'll have to see what they do. If I have to pay, I'll pay. Times change. If I can get something off and get a new one before the present one dies, I'll take the offer.

    I must have different Costco here. When buying battery in Costco I asked and they told me they replace battery within 3 yrs no questions asked and I do believe them. They do not extend battery beyond first 3 years though. Kirkland batteries routinely lasted 6-9 yrs with bit of maintenance (adding water, keeping the charge).

    I’ve had excellent service with Interstate batteries from Costco. I bought one in about 2016 with a 42 month warranty. At about 40 months (2020) I went in and they exchanged it for free, and “restarted” the warranty, in other words I got a new 36 month warranty. Nobody else does this. But it gets better - about a month ago, I took the same battery back after 37 months, technically out of warranty, and they replaced it again no questions asked. And again, a new 36 month warranty is in effect. So I’m now on my 3rd battery in 7 years with another 3 years warranty. Essentially 3 batteries for the price of one. And I’m sure if I take this one in at around the 3 year mark, I’ll get another. I’ve pretty much got a lifetime warranty with Costco. Where else would you get that?

A battery's decline to hold a charge is not an even slope. It's more like a step down, and then a cliff. But you can kill a battery in a day with a 70% discharge at 32 F temperature. I totally agree. Costco's battery warranty is a scam. I have my battery lasted for only 9 months and went dead. Costco charge me an extra $31 dollars for the replacement because the new battery price is higher than the dead battery when I purchase it. When I ask why the battery life is so short. The technician told me one of the battery cell is low on fluid that caused the defective. He told me it can be the weather is too hot. I just wonder if the weather is the reason. I have used Interstate Batteries on all my vehicles for years. The weather has too much differents and they last. Not just 9 months. I used to be a big friend of Interstate Batteries. If the cell in the battery water level drops below the plates in the cell, the battery won't start or hold a charge. The voltage should be over 12 V. What I did many times is add distilled water for the acid that evaporated. Then I hook it up to my battery charger, and trickle charge it at 2 AMPS for a long time to re--charge the battery. Everything I read is most of these batteries are manufactured at the same place and typically battery life is 3--4 years. As time goes by, a battery gets weaker and weaker so you always want to get a fresh battery, with a sticker that has the most recent production date. I contacted Costco corporate, and they kind of suck, very careless like the video says. I talked to two managers on the phone at different locations. One manager very friendly. The second kind of rushed, not friendly. Replacing a battery is usually somewhat of an emergency situation, and the prices have really gone up with the inflation situation. I feel bad for people and there is definitely a lack of accountability going on. Batteries are expensive at all stores and there is definitely some price fixing going on. Hopefully more people will complain.

    • @americusdeville865
      @americusdeville865 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hot weather will evaporate the acid inside the cells. Two caps pop them off. You will see six cells filled with liquid. The liquid levels have to be above the plates. If you charge with a battery charger, the battery will get hot and the liquid will bubble out. But the battery is charging up again, if it is able to hold a charge. If it cannot hold charge, that battery is finished, and you have to replace it. So hot weather is a factor. Park you cars indoors or under covered parking in the summer. You should get 4 years from the battery. After that, you know it's all a hassle, and if you can't save the battery, you gotta pay and it just costs way too much right now.

Only saving grace is provided return a failed battery within the warranty period they indeed have a "no quibble" policy unlike all the other stores (autozone, pep boys, walmart, etc) where they fight you tooth and nail refusing to refund your money. One of the many underlying issues with costco selling batteries is that they don't test the warranty battery being returned. If I purchase a battery today and leave my headlights on all night, or sit in my car in accessory mode for hours, I can return it to them dead. Though in fact that battery is perfectly fine, IT JUST NEEDS TO BE RECHARGED. LIKE YOUR CELL PHONE. YOUR ALTERNATOR WILL NOT 100% CHARGE YOUR DEAD BATTERY. Your warranty then doesnt restart with your battery, you can't just buy a battery once with a 3 year warranty and return it every 2 years.

    Once the old "CEO" retired, Costco started becoming closer to Sam's, Walmart, or criminal banks like Bank of America or Golman Sachs.
    I have seen people in their 70s being scrutinized by a manager for returning a product when a regular employee already checked the returned product. Products that I bought somehow disappeared from my buying history. Having the need to argue with a manager because trying to make difficult the return or no honoring the warranty, etc.
    Regarding car batteries, generally speaking never had a problem like yours but, I bought a new battery yesterday. They changed the 3 year free replacement warranty with a 3 prorated replacement warranty. So it is getting worse little by little.
    I used to get $80-$120 in the yearly refund of my prime/business membership. I changed to a regular membership because I have been so disappointed that started buying less and less from Costco. Last refund I got was $25 cash refund with "business" membership. That means I'm buying 75% less that I have being buying during the previoys 15 years.
    Sam's is no better. I might have to try BJs. I'm lucky I have all 3 warehouses close.. Two of the on the same mall and the other one mile away.

    You have to read the fine print on the receipt and warranty sheet. What you post makes sense but more written information is needed. You feel you should receive a replacement battery at no charge. What I would do If you feel your right is take Costco to small claims court. Then post the outcome. For the record, I purchased from Costco an auto battery for $135 on 12/4/2022 because it was quick and cheap. If my battery has an issue in 2 years I would be disappointed. I will read the fine print on my receipt tonight.

      I was just stating the price for people to compare. I was arguing with the guy at the store and he was like, this is a prorated warranty.
