    You need to use a battery maintainer if your vehicle sits for any length of time if you want your batteries to last

    That store did you wrong man. Usually what they do for me at interstate down in Texas is whenever I need them charged to be tested for the warranty they give me two loaners. And I’m my diesel when one tests bad and another test good they will warranty both.

      Yeah…. It was just a lame experience. The warranty experience was so frustrating.

      I’m in Houston Texas and interstate battery gave me a hard time . Took my battery in to be replaced under warranty (battery was very swollen ). All they offered was to charge it which took a couple of days because they were busy . They pretty much forced my hand into buying a new battery while I wait for them to charge my battery . I couldn’t just not have a battery . They told me if my swollen battery tests bad , they’ll give me a refund for the battery I just bought . A few days later they called me saying the battery was fine . But it wasn’t . That battery was so swollen it looked like it was going to bust any minute .
      And now it’s 6 months later and my new battery is bad . I’ll never spend a dollar with interstate battery ever again

    The biggest problem with the tests that's they are doing is that they are using a digital handheld tester.
    They need to use a real battery tester that puts a real load on the battery, and in turn the tester reads how many amps the battery is putting out. That test fails 80% of batteries that are anywhere near weak.
    Although I'm sure the Interstate dealer is following Interstate testing standards to fulfill the warranty.
    Better equipment will equate to more battery failures....

    I have always bought my batteries from our local Interstate store and have never
    had any problems with there batteries. BUT this last one I bought I had ALL KINDS of
    problems with this one. They told me to bring it in and they would charge it. I told them
    I wanted a new battery and they would not. The best they could do was charge it
    or give me a refund on the balance of the warranty. PEOPLE THESE BATTERIES
    ARE MADE BY A COMPANY CALLED JOHNSON CONTROL, WALMART SELLS THIS
    SAME BATTERY IN THE NAME OF "MAX LIFE", Johnson Control makes batteries for
    about 3-5 other brands. I'm going with one of them, just pay attention to the return
    policy. My battery is less then a year old.

    As a retired technician I can tell you that most people think the problem is the battery, but it's usually the charging system or parasitic drains. The poor battery suffers through months of abuse and then someone complains the battery is awful. Also, most people forget to charge their new battery to 100% before installing it.
    Plow trucks have auxiliary lighting and hydraulics, etc that put an extra load on the system. This vehicle requires electrical diagnostics, load and draw tests, etc etc. Generally, manufacturing issues with the battery will creep up in the first couple of weeks or months. If the problem is 5-7 years out it's general age. 29 months is a red flag to any good technician the vehicle is the problem.
    Lastly, in high abuse situations you really shouldn't be running a flooded lead acid. Use an AGM battery for this type of vehicle.

    Never had a problem with my interstate batteries. Out of about 12 I’ve had only one give me problems after 2 years still under full replacement warranty. I guess because I have an actual interstate battery store in my city that I go to I didn’t have to take out and leave my battery there. I just drive up there and it’s taken care of in like 30 minutes depending on how busy they are. Just replaced one that was a little less than a 2 months shy of 5 years old yesterday. Was looking for a review of one of their jumpstart packs when I came across this video. I don’t blame you and if I were in your shoes I’d do the same. I’d go with a brand that one of your local shops can replace without having to send them in. Having to take your batteries in and leave them is ridiculous.

    I have had several Interstate batteries, they have to be fully charged before you can run a accurate CCA test. Johnson Controls made Interstate batteries and moved manufacturing to Mexico, and people have complained that they no longer last as long as when they were made in the USA, and they also sold their battery division to Clarios International Inc in 2019.

  • @idmhead0160
    @idmhead0160 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Where did you buy the batteries from? You should have bought them at Costco. From what I've heard, they don't even test them there. All you need is the receipt. Interstate is made by Johnson Controls. Same company that makes numerous other brands. Including Duralast Gold, which is what I have in my car and is from 2015 and still going strong.

    Lol i’ve had really good luck with interstate batteries and my local interstate battery store. All batteries have their issues. It’s a fact when you’re our age you see a lot of things and a lot of different battery brands each have their own issues. But again I’ve had really good luck with mine. It’s all about how you run your equipment in your vehicle and things like that.

    Thanks for sharing your experience.
    Just last week my Interstate battery MTP 34/78DT went dead and now I am trying to decide whether I want to stick with Interstate or not. I own a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 VHO and I have had three-(3) Interstate batteries, but I think the original battery was a AC Delco and it lasted 6 1/2 years from when I purchased my truck in July 2005]. In my truck's maintenance records, the first replacement battery I purchased was a Interstate Mega-Tron Plus MTP 34/78DT in January 2012 while I was residing in northern Virginia. In July 2017 that battery went dead, so I purchased another Interstate battery MTP 34/78DT while I was visiting family in Houston, Texas. In July 2019 while residing in northwest Florida that battery went dead, so I received a free new Interstate battery MTP 34/78DT because it was under warranty. All I had to provide was a copy of my purchase receipt and the auto garage shop [Interstate battery dealer] took care of the rest and my new battery arrived within a couple of days with their weekly delivery of batteries.

      @@NeiloftheNorth While I have been recently looking through my past receipts, I am a little confused about the business in Houston, Texas where I purchased the battery in 2017. I thought IBS OF Houston meant Interstate Batteries Service of Houston, but when I did a search today it means Industrial Bearing and Service. The address on my receipt is the same as INTERSTATE BATTERIES OF HOUSTON
      3014 OLD SPANISH TRL HOUSTON, TX 77054. In 2017 I purchased the Interstate MTP34/78DT which I think it had a 36-month warranty, but the battery I turned in to IBS of Houston was a 85-month warranty. Maybe they prorated it because they noted it 66-months old. This Thursday, August 01, 2024 my new Interstate battery MTP34/78DT is expected to arrive at the auto garage shop.

    I have a 1986 c4 corvette and I bought it with an interstate battery! It was doing well until recently I noticed the battery doesn’t keep its charge! It progressively got worse! It’s at 7.5 V rn! Tried to jump it but it wouldn’t hold a strong enough charge to start! I checked for parasitic drains but none! So I assumed it must be the battery bc the alternator keeps the battery charge while it’s running but when the car is turned off, the battery doesn’t hold a charge!

    Maybe the alternator is killing your batteries…

  • @dimmunize
    @dimmunize 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Well if it's under warranty, its probably best to put a load on it to absolutely kill it before taking it in to have them test it, maybe leave the headlights on, dome light on, stereo on, a/c fan on full blast for a few hours, that should get it to 10 volts or under, there's no coming back from that without professional battery repair, they'd be forced to give you a new one unless they're really trying not to, in which case I'd go to a different store as its probably just that specific place.

    • @dimmunize
      @dimmunize ปีที่แล้ว

      @jakereed6876 A battery discharged to 10v is 100% discharged, this kills battery cells. No coming back from that unless you have knowledge of internal battery repair, it won't take a charge.

You might have had good luck on a battery, its still damaged, I wouldn't trust it in the long term.

    • @jakereed6876
      @jakereed6876 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason your charger is ineffective is because the charger is not recognizing a battery being connected as the voltage is too low. I took the car to an interstate distributor (not retail) and it tested bad. It was still under warranty and they gave me a brand new one. Not the case with Die Hard gold. The days of a battery brand mattering are gone. It’s DECA/East Penn or Clarios/Johnson Controls. Unfortunately I didn’t buy my first Optima til after they sold out so apparently I missed out on serious quality. Best battery I’ve ever had was out of my stock 04 RAM. I still had the same battery in 2016 when I sold the second truck the battery had been put inside. I’m sure it died for the next person relatively soon, 12+ years is highly uncommon. Beside a vehicle battery I have a couple Ryobis from 2002 still kicking. Out of 6 only 2 still work but they have decent capacity.

    If you want to get technical, you are only supposed to get 12 months commercial warranty one because it is a diesel application and two you have a snowplow. Automotive warranty is intended for non-commercial use. You should be isolating another battery for your snowplow, you arnt even giving those cranking batteries of fighting chance since you are cycling them with the plow. And yes you do have the best batteries there is a reason interstate is in all national accounts across the nation, it’s because of quality.

    Well I’ll be honest, That battery you have calls for maintenance, Have you tried Rewatering with distilled water, and charging for 24-36 hours??? Because that’s what your supposed to do, It’s not interstates fault, It’s fault on the owner and not knowing what your doing! It’s a 5-6 year battery depending on what you went with, first 2 years/ 2 1/2 years free replacement. After that yea you have to pay a small fee. but orileys and auto zone only warranty 1 battery, 1 time after that ur screwed. Interstate on the other hand, Even if you have to pay the small 80$ for a new battery, Your whole 5-6 year warranty starts over! Also it depends on if you cheaper out and got the lesser of the two, If you have a diesel, And you went for cheap, That’s your fault my guy! Should’ve gone for the better, And also, Both of those batteries require you to do the maintenance, 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

His last interstate lasted 10....that's 10 years. Needless to say, interstate has failed us all. And it happens on the next to the last month of their warranty, just like you. I said " I have had it with your crappy batteries" and I left it on the counter, and went to my local car parts place and bought their battery. I was paying, before c-19, $150 / interstate battery. Now they are even more. I would encourage everyone to go with a different brand. Let's put interstate out of business. I wouldn't mind the price, IF THEY LASTED....but they don't!

      have used many interstate batteries over 38 years. They have not made a good battery in the last 5 years. I have an 8-year-old interstate in a 2000 Monte Carlo Pace car
      and still in good shape. Sometimes set for over 2 months without starting.
