There should be a pavlovian aversion therapy for game devs so that every time they try to put motion blur into a game they get an electric shock, and the more blur the stronger the shock gets.
Even on a 65" tv, they are unnoticeable. The camera is so close you basically just have to dodge around until all of the enemies are in sight. Which isn't long mind you because developers love to spawn enemies behind you.
Them guys really were so rushed that they just copied and pasted 2018 God of War's combat mechanics without any consideration because some guy in a Suits just told them to do what's popular.

@@Slutabara some are pretty designed and can look cool, it's like bad generic plastic-looking fantasy warframe and warframe looks sick so it's not that bad
it wasn't overlooked. They probably just rushed the whole development of the game so it was in time for the launch of the PS5. F76 vibes, the direction of the dev team is a mess, they know it's shit, they ship it anyway and hope that they somehow break even
This looks like it was an Unreal Engine project, and if so, it's probably a result of suddenly loading shaders that are part of the particle explosions the moment before they ignite. There should be ways of working around that though, so it probably was just a rushed delivery bug that never got fixed.
I have a "not-overkill-config" (2700X + 1080ti, no OC, 16Gb ram) and it runs very smoothly on 1440p@144 fps with everything on Ultra / High (and no motion blur, because... well it's motion blur). So on that part I blame some configs / drivers not being up to date more than the game. But it doesn't make excuses for the other flaws the game has.
@@MrEnvisioner The particles aren't even good, they just mean that you can't see shit when you're mashing away. A reasonable game developer would remove/reduce them.
Little detail: Monster Hunter World has animation cancelling, in fact it is one of the more advance techniques. You can cancel almost any recovery after attacks by rolling, you can cancel charge attacks by rolling or some other actions (like buff on hammer or shoulder charge on GS), you can cancel recovery into reloading on ammo weapons, and some of the regular attacks and comboes could be cancelled into other moves. But the attack cancelling itself is pretty rare, almost everything applies to recovery frames to chain different moves.
I wanted to comment that at first but after looking at the rest of the combat system I think comparing it to MH its just too easy. A master piece of a combat system compare to this pile of garbage... its just sending a nuke against a single soldier. Only combat system that overshadows MH is Devil May Cry. Those two are the top of the foodchain for me. Not even Ninja Gaiden or God Hand come close
@@quelatielofmirrah188 I cant speak for Sekiro since I havent tried it but for sure Ill play it after that praise. I would be surprise if it holds a knee to DMC though. It's just clearly that the director or designer don't really enjoy this type of genre but just want to hop on the trend. Otherwise they would know the problem long ago. Not enough customize, not enough boss variation, not enough build variations.they should just copy MH formula and the game would become A tier instantly.
We are simultaneously living in both the best and worst times to be a gamer. The tech has come so far to deliver us stunning looking worlds to play in, yet there are very few devs that are anything more than greedy money hounds that care not one bit about after sales satisfaction.
Games look less and less impressive as time goes on. Its the art style that really gives life to a games graphics. also as games look better, less and less resources and time goes to actually making incredible gameplay. I feel like most studios dont take advantage of the tech. Games have gotten less and less creative overtime. More realistic but gameplay still the same. Nothing incredible or different.
@@vice2versaI agree with most of what you said but overall gaming has never been as diverse and creative as it is right now. Even before hearing this review, this game's combat looked extremely...generic button-mashing on damage sponges. (I remember a friend recommending me this because "it's inspired by Monster Hunter," and I went "oh stop joking lol") After hearing SkillUp's analysis, I'm horrified that a game trying to sell melee was designed like this. "At least its combat is good" is not a redeeming quality, unless it's like Dragon's Dogma good. It's kinda insulting that this line is used as a defense for such a technically flawed combat design.
"It's not even the worst part of this game; that award goes to the combat." When you hear this 12 minutes into a 34 minute review, you know it's gonna be bad
@@Rachis01 his complaints are objective statements, even if he got used to those bad design decisions they would still be bad. Being good at paying attention to very small attack indicators, getting to know every single ability so you can guess what's happening behind the plethora of particle effects, getting used to horrible enemy design which are programmed to just teleport away or put a thing on the ground that forces you to just wait for5 seconds for no reason, you can do those things, sure, but it wouldn't make those problems go away; you'd just be adjusting to a lot of horrible decisions to try a push through and have maybe some compromised and partial fun. Good for you if you can do that but again, it doesn't cancel those flaws, you're just ignoring them.
@Ivanna Sukurdic hay, that's a fair stance to take. I'm of the opinion that you absolutely have to get your gameplay right. If you don't do well on story, I've got the gameplay to enjoy. But in the inverse, you could have made this a movie and it would be objectively better. (or a book, or comic, etc.)
Without gameplay, it’s just a fucking story that’s tedious and boring to ‘read’ through. Without story, it’s still a game. What do we call something that lacks both? Trash

My brother is a play tester for this game, and according to him they actually didn't even originally plan to have loot systems in the game, but Gearbox demanded it did because I guess that's a feature for all of their games and they wanted it in this one too. So basically one of the only remotely decent features of the game wasn't even originally intended (and why a lot of it doesn't affect how your character looks). Also he has been play testing the game for months and says the game regularly drops below 20fps on the PS5 and they don't intend to fix it, and actually a lot of the bugs he reports for the game do not get fixed and are usually deemed as intended interactions despite the fact that they are clearly not. Basically most phoned in launch title of all time. He wants to quit his job because he's been on the project for so long and the game is so shit lol.
As a fellow playtester on a major title, this doesn't surprise me one bit. Also, for monster hunter. 1. there is animation canceling, especially rolling out of attacks, items etc. but not everything can do this 2. the things you can't animation cancel are by design. you have to commit. this allows more skill expression.
I wouldn't say "animation" cancelling since that gives the impression you can roll out at any point in the attack. Monster Hunter more uses "recovery cancelling", where you can roll immediately after the attack finishes and allows you to skip the "return to idle pose" animation.
As someone who is dumb enough to have bought this game and played 40+ hours of it i agree with everything you said and for anyone who is interested the endgame ascended tower is suppose to have an infinite scaling but it stops scaling at level 60 and the rewards from it are extremely underwhelming both in frequency and quality. For perspective i cleared 25 floors of the tower and i recieved 2 legendary items neither of which were good for my selected 'build'. Quick correction. Monster Hunter does have animation cancelling on many actions. It's most apparent on Longsword where it's faster to roll out of many actions than it is to let the animation play out until you can walk again. That threat indicator is actually hilarious, it's like a hidden Easter Egg.
Even on a 65" tv, they are unnoticeable. The camera is so close you basically just have to dodge around until all of the enemies are in sight. Which isn't long mind you because developers love to spawn enemies behind you.

@@shib5267 That is just as bad, if not worse than overlooked.
See even Monster Hunter as canceling and there is still only 1 enemy
I wanted to comment that at first but after looking at the rest of the combat system I think comparing it to MH its just too easy. A master piece of a combat system compare to this pile of garbage... its just sending a nuke against a single soldier.

@@hubhikarilives The orokin towers in the void are some of my favorite tilesets in Warframe, too, for all that gold trim.
I honestly thought you would say something like "at least it looks good" but nope. Absolutely taken down hahaha
the game kind of looks like infinity blade in shiny and to much particleeffects
@@wertirwertir4235 yup and It looks quite similar . God I love this kind of style a mix of medieval with technology and magic. And overall this game is good but can get a bit repetitive after awhile playing
@@wertirwertir4235 True, and Infinity Blade was a Mobile Game with amazing gameplay and a unique story .. for 5 bucks 😂
@@ryanarrow3419 and yet the Style is horribly boring. You get so annoyed by watching it. Awful

This looks like bargain bin Warframe
but without the bargain
The bargaining comes when you’re trying to convince the store to give you a refund.
So a rip-off?
Isn’t Warframe falling off too? It’s creators have been complaining for years.
@@crashescripplingdepression8654 Not really, no, in terms of playrbase it has been going steady overall.
@@crashescripplingdepression8654 Nah, it's just suffering from old age. Still a great game though
Boss health checkpoints are actually a brilliant idea as an accessibility option, but not as a core gameplay system. Oof.
Yeah they could've been just a feature for lower difficulties.
I just realized that this channel has taken the place of what TotalBiscuit used to provide for me years back.
Just a channel who's reviews are must watch before buying games.
Yas, my exact thought few weeks back. There is still biscuit shaped hole in my heart but Skill Up helped to cover it a bit.
Him along with ACG, but I like ACG's reviews more.
Skill Up is one guy where I trust his word above all others lol
@@masamieiri4669 yep, currently the only two trusted game reviewers on youtube
If only he talked more about FOV sliders ;-;
Protagonist looks, moves, and runs just like a warframe. Hell the camera even looks the same.
This game is basically a mix of Warframe, God of War and Monster hunter, but in a horrible way
Yep
If it was executed well that would make a great game.
@@CarrotConsumer A fantasy Warframe would be cool af. In fact a spin off game set during the Old War or Orokin Empire era would be so sick playing as a Dax warrior fighting alongside epic Prime or Umbra frames. A living breathing Orokin colony. The lore of Warframe describes the world before the events of the game so vividly it would be sick to experience it, Warframe despite the updates with Fortuna, Plains and Demios still feels kind of lonely.
@@chilliam00 because of the lack of story. im talking about the main game story, lotus and stuff. of course each update has its own story and things but its just not as good
It looks like one of those fake video ads of mobile games with "action" hahahahahaha
Kinda happy to know that in the EU, there is currently a motion going to implement a law that will force companies to make their game playable offline, should it have a singleplayer without mentioning it being online-mode only (At least that's how I understand it here).
I remember seeing the reveal trailers and thinking this looks amazing, but I felt something was off too. Something didn't seem right. "Smoke and mirrors"
Looks amazing? Sparkling doesn't mean good, this looks like it's made out of sparkly painted low quality Chinese plastic
‘Doors and corners’
@@PeachDragon_ What do you mean? It looks more like as if all the levels were the Orokin Tileset in Warframe.
When shiny preview is done, check about the dev part, you're often in for a "huho" moment. It's the case for this thing, but it doesnt have to be good, nextgen is enough ^^
Launch title for a new system should always be aproached with care because most of them are just tech demos to show of the new hardware.
This game will go F2P. There needs to be a law that states: "If a game goes free to pay within a year of purchase, buyers receive a full refund". Cause these games are becoming paid betas for a soon-to-be F2P game.
If that law existed it would go F2P the day after the 1year date expired heheheh.
@@viniciuscoxoba3842 Haha I guess. So "OR within 6 months of purchase" clause. Anyways Something needs to change with the Looter-shooter market.
Scammers don't give you your money back
How would it go free to play? There are zero microtransactions. What are you smoking?
@@streven1331 So a games cant create a cosmetic store and go f2p to compensate for low active player counts? this is all theoretical.
Quick correction. Monster Hunter does have animation cancelling on many actions. It's most apparent on Longsword where it's faster to roll out of many actions than it is to let the animation play out until you can walk again. It's just usually during the recovery frames as opposed to during the windup or active frames that you can cancel into dodges or other actions.
Yeah you can't animation cancel attacks, but you can cancel recovery time after an attack or item usage by rolling
Exactly, theres recovery animation canceling in MH, without it GreatSword would be the worst weapon in the game lol
@@Walamonga1313 I shudder to think about playing hunting horn without animation cancelling.
@@PassionPossum They buffed it with Iceborne. You attack faster and gain control to roll faster. Also the spin 2 win and songs can be animation cancelled now (well, only the songs were changed cause spin2win was new)
The only good thing about Godfall is finding your channel 😀
Really liked how you detailed the combat; subscribed.
"these godframes dont have unique abilities" I paused, and questioned what they were doing.
It's sad this was co developed by gearbox the creators of the looters genre how'd they fuck it up

@@rune5416 How many successful game did modern Gearbox made? 1 and it's Borderland, the rest of the games they developed are horrendously mediocre, Gearbox devs are typically very mediocre at anything they did and Borderland was a fluke, so I wasn't very surprised when this game is a flop coming from an ex-dev of that team.

why does this game look like warframe?
"So what kind of particle effects do you want?"
"Yes."

*"YES!"*
"...Gearbox, how high are you?"
*"YES, SONY! YES!"*
I never buy a new game day one. I wait for the Skill up review then make my decision. I’ve saved a lot of money.
Vote with your money!
18:00. Monster hunter actually have quite a lot animation cancel. Most moves can be canceled by dodge, the cancel window is just a bit late than other act games. You will always dodge sheath when using gs. Ls is revolved around animation cancel as both special sheath and foresight slash can only be used during animation cancel. Moves that cant be cancels usually is the high damage move which need to be used strategically luke ds flurry.
The lack of input queueing in a melee game is enough for me to say nope. Imagine in Destiny not being able to reload or switch weapons or perform an ability until you've emptied your gun...Which reminds me Skill-up, recently watched Jez's GOS raid with you in there and was wondering what you're thoughts are on Beyond light and the current state of game. Are you still enjoying it? Thanks for the great review that allowed me to avoid something I'd regret (i.e. Avengers)

This is so clearly ryse son of rome for the ps5
The levels in these games remind me of a senario in which Warframe only had the Void and Lua tilesets through the entire thing, but the floors were recently mopped and are not quite dry yet.

I have it on good authority that Randy Pitchford has no shame.
