I definitely learned something new watching this. I've beaten it a few times and I didn't realize you could control which stages you went to by picking eggs.
Do you realize when people start finding out you have these highly detailed playthroughs, that they'll become a standard to come watch for those wanting to 100% classic games. Each one of these videos is going to absorb more and more steady watches as you go. It'll be fun to see how many views they have in 5...10...20 years from now. Cheers.
Same here. I've never seen this particular game but gave an upvote after 5mins, his Dragon Warrior (am still confused on those names and games) and the Secret of Manna runs are the stuff of legends. A hero. I went through the same whole thing and really meant a lot growing up. Such fond memories of family size twizzlers and hostess cup cakes, 2 liters of coca cola. Those are the days I miss.
I loved this game as a child and still do. The different paths through the islands really boosts the replayability. I had no idea, that it depends on the egg at the end, which level is next. Thank you so much.
Had to go to my moms every other weekend growing up which was rarely a pleasant experience and this along with Pinball's Quest and Fantasy Zone were the only games I had there. I remember playing this for hours on end and was the first game I really ever tried speed running, trying to create the best routes both in which levels to go to and in the levels themselves. Of course I didn't know what speed running was at the time and was just trying to make a game I beat several times already less boring, so it's kinda cool that I can trace my love of speed running back to this game specifically! Also did anyone else think the Water Dino looked like they're wearing sunglasses growing up?
This is a favorite channel, and I look forward to the next episode. Maybe with Halloween coming up we might get something like Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti for the Famicom? It would be fun to hear your comments on something like that.
I think I rented this, or maybe I had a friend who rented it, when we were kids. We couldn't get very far, because of how easy it is to lose one of those dinos the game is built around you having. This game takes a TON of practice to get far into, let alone finish, and while I'm glad videos like this exist, I don't think I'm going to go back and try to master it myself now that I'm an extremely old man.
There is nothing I miss more than the old neighborhood VHS & video game rental stores... Even that smell or the dreadful feeling of not seeing that rental case behind the game box you wanted to play lol
I love Adventure Island 3 named the dinosaur pals, in addition to adding another. Blue Camptorsaurus: Taylor Blue Camptorsaurus: Magma Pterodactyl: Don-Don Elasmosaurus: Classie Triceratops: Pokey
Played this with a child hood friend, We didn't have a manual or anything so we made up names for the dinosaurs, i think they included "Sparky and Lavey" but i dont remember what we called the others ones.
@1:31:20, Master Higgins is lucky to have escaped Florida. I'm still stuck here, and the area hasn't evolved much evolutionarily since Higgins' time. I wonder if he had to deal with "Florida Man."😀 I need one of his dinosaurs...
So amazing to see games I spent weeks/months on without ever beating.. and it's beaten in 2 hours along with tutorial and explanations the entire way. One thing I enjoy with stuff like this vs some of the longer RPGs is I I can actually see and consider remembering more of this, trying to apply the lessons for my own success.
Love this channel. I've never played the game, probably never will, but the effort, time, knowledge, and enthusiasm put into this production was/is always amazing and completely exceeds my expectations each time. Thanks for putting this out, I still want to play Dragon Warrior, Dragon Quest? the one with Edrik armor and 2 other items. Also Secret of Manna again, somehow. Will have to google it, I'd rather play those for the next month than what's in my steam library right now - and I have a lot of good games too. Seeing this reminded me of them, thank you.
I love all your videos and try to catch em all. I feel like ive went back and watched all the previous videos and this one game from my childhood seems to be missing. I couldnt remember the name of it for the longest time but finally at a recent con i found it! Im not sure how one goes about submitting entries for possible future videos on youtube but figured id drop a comment in hopes of it being covered in the future. The game is called "The Adventures of Dizzy" and it is for NES. Thanks again for all the hard work you do. Can't wait for the next episode.
Oh hey, I'm awake for release time for once! Yay! Well, I know what I'm up to for the next 2 hours! Time to see what this game had to it cos a weekend with it from the video store when I was a kid was never long enough back then. EDIT: OMG you even said it in the intro, it felt infinite with all the levels! XD
I have never played the Adventure Island games, but i used to love tracing thru the levels in game magazines since they posted most of the stage layouts when they covered the games.
Oh man, thank you for this video. My early 2000's college clump had a NES and some carts we all collectively played, this was one of them, we got stuck somewhere in world 7, and only had to turn the game off when we all left to go home for winter break RIP our near completion. Also 'flower devil', those are 'coyotes' in the original Japanese translation, they look like little red dog people with white teeth in a grin.
Nice video, didn't know about the pathing! Rare fact that i did not see documented anywhere: The green dragon can also give you a 5UP if you reach it with 0 remaining lives.
29:29 When visiting any Green Dragon (except for the one in 1-4, who gives you the bee the first time you visit him), if you have 5 or more extra lives, you'll actually be awarded with either get one of whatever item you have the least amount of OR a 1-up if you have already 9 of everything (or a meat if you already have 9 extra lives).
In my opinion the best Adventure Island title. Super Adventure Island is good too but this one is just so enjoyable to play and Tina looks the cutest by far.
You missed something in island 2 boss. There are two benefits of you get to the boss with the swimming dinosaur. 1. If you get stuck in a bubble the dinosaur will swim over and release you. 2. The crab will sometimes shoot at the dinosaur instead of at you.
I'd like to mention one thing. In truth, every level in the game has an axe, but in most of them they appear only, if you have nothing in your inventory.
Actually, not every level contains an axe (1-8 for instance), however MOST levels do, but only if you have no axes in your inventory (you can still have dinos, just not any axes).
Just a few things to add: On to the 3rd island, if you go to the boss with a red or blue dino you can jump on the platforms above and the dino will not sink into the quick sand also since it attacks with you and is immune to damage and may tank a hit from the boss you can just use the dino while hobering on the platforms to hit the boss making it the easiest boss in the game, because dinos can't be hurt in boss rooms, exceptions in world 2 if you make it to the boss with a blue flying or red dino (for which you need to die to the boss in the original boss level) then you lose it, but on the 6th boss the dino will fall but you will not lose it, it will just go back to your inventory. Also every boss room will have an axe if you get there without one. If you finish a level without an axe or dino you will get bonus points, the sea urchins those weird blue things in the ifnal level and I think the fire breathing snakes will not fire at you if you don't have an axe equipt. Lastly the last level can also be beaten with the flying dino but you need to be nearly pixel perfect flying between the water and the blue things on the ceiling.
I had no idea that the eggs at the end meant anything... I used to play this game alllll the time. It's great to see that there are so many stages that I was unaware of. I always believed that the eggs were just like a slot-machine in hopes of getting the 1-Up!
Love this game. Surprised it hasn't been covered yet. Up until just a couple years ago it's been a game I pull out once a year or so. I guess I'm due up. Part 3 is a fun continuation as well, but 2 is the best.
Seeing a few very long form videos from you which is awesome. Recently I was reminded of the game Syndicate on the snes and assumed it would be in your bideo library somewhere but I can't seem to see it. Has snes syndicate popped up on your radar for an episode?
While I'm sure you had video game experience as a kid, it seems as time goes by you get better and better at these 8-bit games that kids nowadays would need months to even be average at
I have physical copies of AI 1-3, and even a reproduction of AI 4 in English. Despite this, I've never sat down and played through them. I beat the 1st game back in the '90s.
I hate how you make no other video game tutorials and only on the SNES and NES. Please make tutorials on other consoles because you’re one of the only people that actually helps me advance in a game. Like why not the game boy advance or the switch???
I just found out that they actually revealed the names of the dinos from Adventure Island in an issue of Nintendo Power; Red Camptosaurus: "Magma" Blue Camptosaurus: "Taylor" Elasmosaurus: "Classie" Pteranodon: "Don-Don" Triceratops: "Pokey" I always throught they were named after the card symbol the character got them from.

I had no idea this game was so deep. I still own it, but never got very far as a kid. Thanks for all the hard work and the trip down memory lane!
Haven’t been here for awhile, it’s like visiting an old friend you haven’t seen in awhile! My favourite retro channel!

If it's your favorite, why haven't you been here?
@@jarlwhiterun7478 just been busy. Also I like to wait for a few videos to come out so I can binge a few in a row!
I loved this game as a child and still do.

Thank you so much.
I rented this decades ago and forgot ask about it. What a blast from the past

Thanks so much for these videos. I watch them as I'm preparing family dinners for 8 people on Sundays, and they make the time fly by.
What are you making for dinner?

I do this as well. :D
We don't care about your activities. Just comment on the video content in the future, mkay?
@@jarlwhiterun7478 That was rather rude of you.

I had this when it came out. Miss these days. Life was simple.
Большое спасибо за такой гайд! Много нового и полезного узнал для себя в этой игре!

Never stop making these.
I've waited for this video for 2 years
great
Been anticipating this one ever since you covered the first Adventure Island game!
Finally!!! I've been waiting for this one! 😄 Thanks!
This is so much editing and design work. Thanks for a great walkthrough with much detailed info.
I had no idea as a kid the eggs at the end changed your path. So cool.
Was literally looking for this game specifically on your channel a few min before you uploaded. Thank you
That's amazing
So many precious memories playing AI 2 and AI 3.

Cobra Triangle... Adventure Island II ... Mega Man 2 and Mario Bros 2-3 are the top 5 of summer games
An absolute masterpiece this and Super Adventure Island 2 are my personal favorites
I get so excited when you drop new content! Cheered up my sunday morning.
same it's like when a Nintendo Direct comes out im always hyped no matter what game
C'mon Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout! That[s my number 1 favorite NES game!

One of the few games I had as a kid in the early 90s, thanks so much for playing this one!
You're really good at these old school games. Better than I was. Respect.
Proud to say I finished this as a kid. The AI series is criminally underrated
I found this really soothing to listen to, especially while recuperating from my summer flu ❤
I’ve been waiting patiently for this one, me and my 9 year old play this game a lot, and well can’t beat it Hahha
Heck yeah! New UCBVG video. Great way to start a Sunday
Oh man, this game brings back soooooooo many memories.
Adventure Island was another game I knew well back in the day but never beat it. Hudson Soft was a name I started looking for in renting games. Lol
I always learn a lot about games while watching these videos. Thank you!
Also thought i should mention my cat is named Hudson Bee

Adventure island 2 is superb! The difficulty level is quite good for a NES game. Awesome guide.
Alright! Thanks for another episode.
I appreciate your work in these games

Excellent game play and tips on Adventure Island 2
I never played this one. By the time this was released we had already moved on to the Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx 16. Great times!

hope you dont make us wait to long for adventure island 3

"What if we copy Mario instead?"
"Perfect"

Very cool thanks !

New vid lets go!
I just found out that they actually revealed the names of the dinos from Adventure Island in an issue of Nintendo Power;
Red Camptosaurus: "Magma"
Blue Camptosaurus: "Taylor"
Elasmosaurus: "Classie"
Pteranodon: "Don-Don"
Triceratops: "Pokey"
I always throught they were named after the card symbol the character got them from.
Friends of mine loved Island 2. Never actually played it after the first.
100% thorough....100% enjoyable. Thanks YCBVG
Always love the content you put out. I also used your strategy guide to help me beat castlevania bloodlines. It was super useful
Like always, you did an excellent deep dive
