I never saw my father as my parents got divorced. My mum worked, and my aunt was always there to take care of me. I remember I used to play this game while my dear aunt was cooking food or playing with me. I am now an adult, and my precious aunt has passed away. Watching this video suddenly brought back all the memory. Thank you for your channel. I wish you the best.
Level 8-3 was truly the devils section. After three days of trying (which meant leaving the NES on for three days straight), my friend and I eventually beat the section through a method where I held the controller and managed the D Pad and my friend pushed the jump and fire button. When we beat that last section of 8-3 it was pretty triumphant.
Another trick to spot a hidden egg is that if you throw your weapon on a spot it will disappear mid-air. It's an indication that there's a hidden egg there. Other than that, this is a wonderful run!
This was one of the first games I ever rented, way back in 1988, and my tiny little 8-year-old brain was blown away by how cool this game looked for the time.
About the area 7 boss, I'm pretty sure that's meant to be a kappa, which is a Japanese yokai that has a sort of dish on top of their head and a bird like beak. A kappa loses its power if it doesn't have water in the dish, and typically a way to defeat them is by tricking them into bowing to you.
"... And he flips us the bird as a heart floats up into the sky!" - I was taking a drink when you said this. I completely wasn't expecting a joke like that and nearly did a spit-take. Bravo sir.
i didn't hear him mention this, but you can find where a hidden egg is by using your weapon. if it seems to hit a invisible object, there's a hidden egg there.
7-4 was the bane of my existence as a kid. I would always have no weapon, and couldn't get past it. Once I got there with a weapon, I finally beat this insanely tough game
Man, I was just thinking about this game earlier today. I never got past the third boss as a kid, and none of my friends wanted to play it when we hung out because of the difficulty. Never really got into the later games. I liked how simple and straightforward this one was.
@@ultraspinalki11 Whoa! There's a remake!? I'm definitely going to check that out after I get done watching this video. Thank you for letting everyone know. 👍
I can't even begin to imagine how much practice it must have taken to get this good at Adventure Island, you had every last detail of this game broken down to a science in this playthrough, i didn't even know it was possible to get through some of those spider sections without a weapon, i had always assumed if you lose your weapon the game is basically over in certain sections, this was very impressive.

I think at this point I've watched all of your videos. These are the first walk through videos that I've watched and I have to say that there is one thing that sets your apart from the rest. You actually talk! Since starting to watch these I've had many more suggested to me. There are all good in their own way, but they are silent. They don't give you any commentary on strategy or anything. I really like what you are doing and enjoy all of your videos even if I don't care much for the game.
One thing I've seen mentioned in very few places is that there's a tell if there's a hidden egg somewhere. If you're firing projectiles and they disappear early, before they hit the ground, it meets they stuck an invisible egg. Try jumping around the spot where they vanish.
Great video with detailed layout of every stage. Normally the easiest way to clear this game is to not lose your weapon, but you explained weaponless run too. I wish I saw this video sooner. The fact I stumbled upon an eggplant multiple times and running out of energy not knowing there is a milk nearby, is really pissing me off.
What if I told you that this game was known as "Capulina" in Mexico because the main character looks like the Mexican actor "Gaspar Henaine aka Capulina" ?
Loved playing the Wonder Boy arcade game growing up. When I saw this game come out on the Nes, I knew I had to have it. I made it to the last level but died. After that, it's almost impossible to get a hammer because the spiders are hard to avoid. Needless to say, I never beat it. I'm not done watching the video, but did you mention that you can find hidden eggs by constantly throwing your hammer? If it vanishes before it hits the ground, that means you're hitting an egg.
I was very confused at first because I played this game on my game gear but I knew it wasn’t Adventure Island. Your 5 minute history of the game you’re playing is so helpful for things like that!!
I love how the red 1000 point bonus item is a Famicom controller. Neat touch, and surprised it wasn't changed for Western releases. Another great video. Keep up the amazing work.
I'll be absolutely honest and tell you that I had no idea that Wonder Boy was the original... My third NES game back in the 80s. Love the game. Back then I usually made it to 1-3 or maybe 1-4 and tried again. Kept trying over time and did eventually beat it!
I hold Adventure Island 2 as an equal among the early Mario Bros games. Part 3 is good as well. The first game is kinda like a "why play Mario 1 when you can play Mario 3" scenario.
This was one of the first games I played on my NES! (I mean... Family, the bootleg version of this console that was more easily available in Mexico). Anyways! It's always great to see it back again, with so much attention to details, secrets and even a bit of the history behind the game. Thank you so much for making this video.
Classic game. I like how the sequels built upon it all...then part 4 was a metroidvania! Shame it was never released stateside. Thank goodness for fan translations.
This game kicked my butt for years back when it came out. I always thought you had to play all the time to beat it. WOW so glad to see someone go all the way through it finally

Got this game for Christmas back in the day and it's still one of my NES Favorites, despite the fact that I never actually managed to beat it. I remember finding the Brown Frogs super intimidating as a kid when they came hopping towards you. I still have flashbacks to the nightmare of trying to beat the Round 4's without a weapon.
Can I suggest Milon's Secret Castle for a future video. Although I did beat it as a kid I'd love to watch a playthrough with someone else's approach. Awesome content as usual 👌
Curious fact: In Mexico we knew him as "Capulinita", or Little Capulina in honor of a Mexican comedian and an actor, Gaspar Henaine "Capulina". This brings me back a lot of memories. Thanks man, great vid!
Returning to this a couple of years after, I think completing this one is one of UCBVG's greatest triumphs. In the second half it's like every level is full of close calls.
Yay! I was just needing something to watch! You got some great sense of time mate. :D Now to enjoy another game I borrowed from friends. And arcades. Ahhh... arcades. God, they were fun. Now you've REALLY tapped some old memories for me. *sigh* I miss arcades.
My favorite game of all time! I remember playing it non-stop back in the day when it came out. I was obsessed with this game! I remember freaking out at the difficulty level and going into a rage breaking the controller. Last year at the age of 44 I sat down with the intention of beating this game. I left the NES on for 3 days, got up to level 8-3 and my dog jumped up on the table the NES was on freezing it.
I loved this Franchise! It was so memorable, because my three favourite loves were in one place, Skateboarding, and platforming games on the Nintendo. (I think I cared more about the skateboarding than actually trying to beat its. Thanks for playing this one for us dudes!
Super excited for Adventure Island!! This is one of my favorite series of games on the NES. I absolutely can't thank you enough for the content you put out on a week to week basis.
This game was hell as a kid, I think I got as far as area 6, and assumed the walrus head was the second last boss. That continue bee from the first level would have been a blessing playing this back in the day. There was just no way to even know about these secrets. All I remember was hidden eggs kinda stopped your shots, so it gave you a clue there was an egg there.
When I was a young kid, I thought that the hidden eggs that suddenly appeared under Master Higgins were being laid by him. Awesome video! Here's hoping you make a video about the PS2 remake in the future!
Such a cool useful video! I guess the only thing left unmentioned is that if you bring honeygirl to the "goal" at 3-2, you will get extra 1up, unlike the 5000 with eggplant in other levels. Can be done by using a skate, but i'm not sure if you can pick up a bonus pot on skate.
I just beat this game yesterday... and now I'm watching your channel to see optimized strategy. I didn't know it was possible to avoid the egg plant. But I contend the spider jump in 7-4 and 8-4 Is the worst jump I've ever seen. It took me so many tries to get through it
I rented this game as a little kid. Found it too difficult for my liking, but I was inspired to rubber band a sponge to a stick so it looked like the throwing stone axe, and then I threw it at my sister's head. She got me back many times over the years. I still have the scar from the "shovel" incident.
I like this channel because I get to see the end of games I could never beat as a kid. This game was so hard, good job! It was a lot of fun though. I spent a lot of time playing this one.
That last section in Area 8, round 3 always seemed like it took a lucky guess when to throw a weapon at the bat to get by. I remember trying that segment probably close to 200 times before finally passing it.
I bought Adventure Island at Toys r Us with my own money. It was the first game I ever bought myself and paid for it entirely with nickels and quarters (I was 8, give me a break).
I remember saving change to go buy Super Mario Bros. 3 during the summer after it was released. That was one of the best moments as kid knowing you worked hard & bought something you really wanted.
Where were you when Shinya Arino from game center cx was challenging this game 😉. Love this series and i love to see these games getting beaten legit. Thanks for the great content. Keep it up!
1:24:55 - These spiders were my nemesis. I can't tell you how many times that last spider killed me. The timing of that jump, if you don't have a weapon, is just sooooo ridiculously hard to get right... and then I manage it, only to be killed by the pooter after that. If I could only manage to get to sign board 4 once, I believe I would have been able to finish the game, but it was not meant to be. The game also froze on me a number of times after hours of suffering to get here, which is heart break in of itself. 8-3 part 4 is also a complete nightmare to get through.
Nice video! I've always found the backstory with the Wonder Boy common ancestor and Takahashi Meijin really fascinating. Maybe now I'll actually try out the game sometime!
Damn, remember playing this game in the original NES. IT WAS (IS) DAMN HARD !!!! Also, Hudson Soft created the Bomberman and Bonk series and Milon's Secret Castle, so we definitively heard about them.

Vibing to the background music while you play this, I can hear some of the notes that are used in Faxanadu.
This was my favorite game! My great aunt use to play this with me!
My brother use to do the continue trick but I never knew you needed that Hudson bee to be able to do it.
There is no way JJ & Jeff on TG 16 wasn't supposed to be an adventure Island game originally.
Now that was impressive! I consider that the hardest game ive ever beaten. Yes, harder than Battletoads, and you did a great job
Another Saturday another episode!
One of the hardest, but memorable games on the NES
NGL, I always preferred the Sega Master System 'Wonder Boy' port of this game. And the music in it is fantastic.
Ahh Saturday morning goodness. This is such a good series, UCBVG!
It was nice my sentiment on the skateboarding part was echoed, good dog.
I never owned this game on the NES but I did play and own the one on the SNES. Super Adventure Island is awesome... especially the music.
