I'm really surprised that FF4 was not one of the recommended starting places. It seems practically THE most "Final Fantasy" out of all of them. Great characters and story, great music, and an easy difficulty (Western version/PSP), and a high fantasy setting. Sure the graphics aren't as advanced but it's still really good.

As much as I want to love FFXV, pre-patch Chapter 13 killed my buzz. That experience alone has kept me from doing a second full playthrough since launch even though it's supposed to be better now.

FF VIII is my favourite ... it was the first one I think I finished as a little kid (maaaybe VII though.) I like Squall’s character progression, and the crazy story is actually great lol. Plus... the card game.

@shira7211 No prob! thats from this video from 2009 called 'Black Guy Loves Video Games' by a channel called BBoySmurf. its such an obscure video that im not even sure how i found it in the first place 💀
FF7 is the masterpiece. FF8 was a bit of a downgrade and kinda basic unless you just liked the card game in it, FF9 was too chibi looking like they thought backtracking to a lesser format for making the characters would be a good idea. FF 10 though, was pretty good, like a close second to 7. And 12...FF 12 was....weird. SO yah focus on the greats: FF7 is a must, and FF 10 if oyu really want a a super drawn out narrative, and FF8 for the card game and some stuff. lol

Alright awesome thanks! After watching this video I feel confident in saying that I learned the best way to start Final Fantasy, which is of course, to not start it at all! The older games have an old combat system that I have no interest in and the new ones aren’t as good as the old ones! Thanks a fish’s paradise! 😂

FF6 is where I would start, it has everything in it that makes the series great. The graphics aged like fine wine while FF7 and to a lesser degree, FF9 , look like dog shit now. FF10 is also very good so might be a good place to start for people who need voice acting and flashy modern graphics. I have to say, I've been enjoying FF15 playing it for the first time on PS5, I never thought I could enjoy another Final Fantasy but it's fun.
yeah all thats fair bro. ff6 or 10 are both great starting points even if I feel like theyre a little slow in the beginning imo. also i get what you mean about the graphics from the ps1 games not holding up well but i think ff9 at least looks pretty damn good to this day. especially if ur playing that moguri mod on steam 👀
@@afishsparadise5150 I definitely second the moguri mod, it's trivial to install and configure and the game looks incredible at (I believe) 4k. My last play through of FF9 I used moguri and it was amazing. It'd be nice if Square re-realeased FF9 and FF7 with moguri mod upscaling included from the beginning then I'd recommend them to new players in a second, especially 9 since it's worth replaying several times for fans of the series.
@@gentronseven That's why it can be tough recommending this series to people. Some of the best games in the series just look like shit by today's standards and it's hard for a lot of people to look past that. The older games got this certain spirit to them that you wanna share with others, but there can just be too many roadblocks for the average person. If official moguri mods for 7 and 9 were released that would help a ton.
