Personally how I would have fixed the whole character classes being lost to the magic system is to tie it to the character classes and make each character learn magic faster depending on their class compatibility. You can still grind all the Spells if you want but it will take a lot longer to grind the ones that are out of character class, also the level of bonuses from the summons would also be tied to the class system if done this way to further incentivize those classes
“It’s the best song in the game”... *5 minutes later “this is the best song in the game”...*2 minutes later “this other song is the best song, in the game”
41 years old, I found myself either with goosebumps, in tears, or laughing along. Reliving my childhood as well as adulthood was a joy. FFVI for me is the game of all games. Thank you so much ProJared!!! Your review of Final Fantasy VI..."was the best in the game." 😁
This is the only video game that has ever made me cry. That 2D 16-bit sprites could do that better than any game since makes FF6 my fave. You just want to give a huge hug to these characters and make sure they all succeed. Not to beat a game, but to help them find peace. Add the incredible music, and wow.
I can even break down why that rating would work the way he would. "There are so many things in the game to choose as the best that it's hard to pick. While there are clearly some that are better than others, the wide variety of options depending on personal taste and play style grant more choice than most any other final fantasy, or any other GAME to date at the time."
I dunno about the rest of you, but when Jared just throws out "I've been there," I had to take a minute. Thank you for being you, Jared. Thank you for your dumb jokes, your over-analysis, and your willingness to be real with us. See you at One Million.
That line was really powerful comimg from him. We all know what happened and how it turned his life upside down. When he said that, i know that "the thought" crossed his mind during those days. Glad that he is pulling whats left of his life together, and making something fresh out of it
Uematsu's score to this game was SO unnecessarily amazing for a game of it's time. He could have phoned something much more basic in, and no one would have noticed in a 16 bit video game. But no, he makes something so intricate, epic, emotional, and unique, that I don't think it's EVERY been topped. To. This. Day.
Jared on The Decisive Battle: "This is the best song in the game" Me: "That's... that's debatable..." Jared on Locke's Theme: This is the best song in the game" Me: "OH OK I SEE WHERE THIS IS GOING~"
"It is ok to have scenes that don't further the plot, as it develops character." This is a good lesson for life really. It's perfectly ok to take time away from your "main story", your career, your relationships etc., and focus on building who you are as a person. Prioritise becoming the best version of you, to improve both yourself and your life-plot. Also I can't believe Jared never talked about the best song in the game smh...
While plot is important, it is OK to deviate from it from time to time provided that it keeps the reader/viewer/player engaged. The technique is not without risk, however. When doing a character development detour, it is VITAL to make sure the reader/viewer/player gives a rat's ass about the character, otherwise it just wastes his/her time. Don't bore your audience, boys and girls.
I love how he talks about Runic being forgotten about when I've always been of the impression that it's one of the most broken abilities in any game ever. It has the ability to completely trivialize a ton of fights and it means Celes always has a huge pool of MP to work with, reinforcing her as the strongest mage in the game. I always find it interesting with these older games how we really did play them in a vacuum, and we all really did form our own opinions and strategies. Now peoples thoughts on games feel almost homogeneous. We all consume the same media surrounding them and share in a large community surrounding that specific game. I guess part of me is nostalgic for a time that's long gone, and even tho I wouldn't go back to it even if I could, there are some things I'll miss from time to time.
Well ain't that the truth. Internet is a good thing but it's now hard to formulate your own opinion without getting some semblance of bias from others. Some people hate FF7 because it's too popular and didn't met their expectations. Some people hate FF6 because fans put it on a pedestal.
This comment is spot on. Peoples' opinions are completely homogenous. I've never heard _anyone_ say anything bad about Earthbound, ever: but having played Mother 3 first, I just don't find it compelling enough to complete playing through.
I never really used Runic since I didn’t have a sword there could use it for a while, but after I got another one I’ve been using it all the time since the last 4 bosses I’ve dealt with have had deadly magic attacks including METEO so I’ve had celes using runic and the rest of my team using Blitz Bushido and Chainsaw every turn, and everyone doing a healing spell before I put runic back up after an enemy attacks.
@@straightupanarg6226 That is a huge problem with fanbases and the internet in general. People are deathly afraid of having opinions that go against the majority, because what worth is an opinion without likes, right? That results in opinions being way more homogenous than they should be.
When Celes tried to kill herself and Projared says "I've been there" I felt the emotion behind it, his emotions. I'm glad he didn't give up when it felt like the world wanted him to. He's a great TH-camr and one of the most consistent TH-camrs out there and his videos have brought me a lot of joy.
Davis609 Just because he made a mistake and got caught up in a horrible misunderstanding doesn’t justify the whole internet turning against you, nobody deserves that
I still feel that. It pains me to say it, but the life I'm living isn't one I want to be living. I strive to be better, but I can't seem to make it happen. I think about this moment a lot because at least it isn't just me.
tentales10 I remember I used to hate the Opera scene. “Ugh,” I thought, “this is nice, but ultimately unimportant. Why does everyone say this is one of the best part of the games?” Then I realized. Maria misses the one she loves, climbs to the peak, and throws the flowers off the roof. One year later, Celes misses the ones she loves, climbs to the peak, and throws herself off the mountain. As soon as I drew the parallels, I blanched, and I’ve loved the opera ever since.
Hello... Im 35 years old and this amazing game made me learn english by myself when i was 11 just to understand the story of the game. The best FF definily. Cheers from Brazil!
Before this premiere starts, can we just appreciate this guy. I don’t want to talk about the controversy much since that’s already beating a dead horse, but ProJared is one of those consistently entertaining TH-camrs that stands out in the sea of, let’s be honest, shit on this platform. Whether* it’s from his reviews, retrospectives, or even just his update videos, I find so much enjoyment from just seeing this guy express his own opinions. The controversy was a big setback for him, and while I will admit I was fooled by what was being said I still chose to stay subscribed because that’s how great this channel is. Keep up the great work ProJared, and I am so hyped for this premiere to start.
I've only put 20 hours into this (not even halfway through the story), but, as I kept playing, Locke started to feel like the main character to me. Not because I choose him a lot (I mostly main Edgar), but because he always seems to be there in some form even when not in the party. Like, he's the spirit that pushes the others forward.
29:16 "I've been there, that feeling of overwhelming loss and pain and heartbreak and just wanting it to all end." That almost made me cry because I've too been there: having suicidal thoughts, losing everything and thinking you're all alone in world, thinking its not going to get any better...its not easy.
FFVI has everything for everyone, in my case, the back history of Locke touch my heart, i also lost a girl that i loved so much because something that wasn't my fault or her fault, just, bad casualities of life, now, just hearing the song "Forever Rachel" makes me cry.
@@HungerOfHunter I feel the same way when I hear "Death of Aeris" or the ending to Earthbound. We were together for 7 years, we just drifted apart in the worst way, and it's the biggest regret I've ever had. She has a family of her own now, I smile for them, but I can't help but think: "I'd give ANYTHING. ANYTHING at all to go back to the past and be a better man for her." Maybe one day, I can be that for someone who needs me, and we'll find each other when we're meant to. I hope the same happens for you my friend.
Also Rachel gives you the Phoenix magicite witch represents life, but also death and rebirth and not rebirth as coming back to life, but as making her live in locke's heart and mind ... Phoenix in this game, represents the everlasting life even after death through the people that loved us while we were with them...
29:17 "I've been there." There, here's what all those "clowning on Jared" comments lead to. Here's what _cancel culture_ leads to. Here's why I'm so happy to see cancel culture didn't work. Here's to Jared. Cheers, man.
cancel culture possibly lead to the premature end of Twelve Forever, a show I was enjoying immensely, and thus I will hate the people who promote Cancel Culture forever and never forgive or forget
he doesn't deserve anything, not sure why people think that you're owed things in life. He made a choice, and he's living with it, which is respectable, but no, he doesn't deserve any random number you want to assign to him, nor does he deserve a single sub. He's earned what he has, and if he keeps working hard, he'll earn more, if his reach is good enough and people enjoy his content. I like jared's vids, though his previous behavior is quite questionable, so long as he's not breaking any laws and keeps that shit private, i'm not going to stress it.
@@gregorymirabella1423 I think Zeno means that while Kefka may have indeed needed a hug at some point in his backstory, the Kefka who needed that hug is long gone. What we've got in the game is a man who wouldn't know how to value, or maybe even interpret, a hug. He is, to be frank, way too far gone. Way too lost in his detachment from humanity, his growing lust for power, his spiteful hatred and, in the World of Ruin, his eventual disillusionment and nihilism. Even if you did try to hug Kefka, he would just take that opportunity to sink a dagger into your back. He's not exactly a huggable man anymore.
One of the most memorable moments in my childhood was the collapse of the floating continent. I was blown away by the fact that the villain had basically won and the world was destroyed. Yet there's a great message after that. Even if the world around you has fallen apart, there are still reasons to go on living life.
You have put it the best way possible. I too was a kid when I played this game, I did not understand it at the time, but the message got through inside me. My dad had died, my mother in jail and I was living with a monster in a broken world. But there was hope. Thank God almighty in his infinite mercy, I got through that nightmare.
@@lifeloverNorris At the "I've been there" part, the chat filled with an outpouring of love and support that really just overwhelmed him. As well as a feeling of gratefulness that people liked the video he worked so long hard to make.
This is still one of the best reviews I've seen in a video game. Not only does Jared capture the theme and synopsis of the game in the review itself, he also lived through it, this is the video that put Jared back on the map.
I feel like ProJared has always been more of a 'character', but after things that've happened, it really just feels like Jared as of late. At least to me.
I never have watched his videos, but since he's doing one on ffvi I'm giving the video a watch right now. I heard about what happened to him though and I'm very curious if like, his community warmed back up to him or if a lot of people still despise him for what he did? He seems innocent enough
@@dcb1195 He basically had the entire internet target him for a witch hunt. All based on a person's heresay. Which pretty much most people took as truth. No one asked for his side of the situation or if he had anything to say. With parts of it all should've been a private relationship issue. Not for thousands of people's opinions. It was a cluster fuck and he was stuck in the bullseye. After all of that he eventually came back to the internet. He not only gave his side of the story but proof that cleared his name of all the accusations. I don't doubt there are still people out there who still think he is guilty of something. Thankfully, most have listened to reason. It was quite sad, frustrating, and telling how people reacted to the accusations against him.
@@ZenoDLC but you can't just skip a R:SL ad. It requires a viewer disclosing the time stamp and multiple other viewers giving it a thumbs up... or trying to figure out the spot it ends yourself which is quite the pain in the ass if you're watching on a smartphone or tablet.
@@OceanIgs No thanks. Just watch those lame super hero movies with joker. Which i hate. Enough of those. I dont wanna see it infect Japan. One game i think was enough. .Sad mistake :P
@@AliangerI disagree. Locke alone has more depth than Aladdin or Indiana Jones. (Though, that can't be said for everyone. Nonetheless, his character alone does have more depth than those movies.) That said, I can't imagine it working out as a show as these games are intentionally inconsistent to keep the player entertained. Plus, bittersweet ending's like Locke's wouldn't really please a viewer as its not a happy ending.
This video was so poignant, intimate, and emotional. I haven’t ever played a Final Fantasy game, but have always wanted to. After seeing this, I’m going to find a way to finally start playing the series, starting with this one. Thanks, Jared for such an amazing video
the classic playstation 1-2 games are all on sale on switch. Got my copy of 9 10 12, missed out on beating them growing up. Finally have the chance to play it again.
That beginning tutorial in the magitech armor always terrified me. You’re so powerful and the less equipped enemies can’t do anything to stop you. You have loads of different abilities, but it doesn’t matter what you do. Like Jared said “it’s very hard for you to lose.”
Yeah I remember as a kid going through the first time thinking how terrified everyone in Narshe must have been , and the guards throwing themselves at the Magitek armor knowing their innevitable fate
I've literally never made a comment on a TH-cam vid before but I just replayed this after it came out on Steam and in replaying, I share your delight. I played the original back in the day (yes, on the old gray cartridge - and yes, I would occasionally blow on it if I HAD TO do the universal 'Nintendo fix', ha). This, to this day, is not just one of my favorite games of all time, but also one of the best stories I've ever been told (that includes movies, books, everything I've ever consumed). I've recommended it to many because honestly? The fact that they're sprites DOES NOT matter - you still connect emotionally and it's profound. Thanks for the video.
I would argue that not every character needs a big backstory and character development. Just like in life, some people never change even during events that cause some people to change a lot.
I get where you’re coming from, but characters that get less development in the story, it feels like something WAS there. Strago for instance felt like something is missing from his story, probably because he was put in later in the WoB section.
I especially really liked that Shadow has little to no backstory. Just like the way a Ninja speaks only when necessary, his mostly mysterious past pairs very well with that.
This game is the embodiment of who I am today. Sensitive, yet powerful. Probably no other media has shaped me into who I am today more than this game. The story is, hands down, the best in the series and really knows how to bring out the best in one. You can keep your graphic, the story is where it is at and this one delivers. Octopus and all....
ProJared has had one of the greatest redemption arcs in TH-cam history, and I'm glad he put it behind you. Damn near cried watching this video due to your body language and what you saying about FFVI as a whole.
It is not really redemption if you didn't do anything wrong, redemption would be getting to this point after actually having done what people said he did.
@@Casperwinde his ex-gf tried to ruin his name with false accusations of something that i don't remember exactly. Everyone sided with her while he claimed he was innocent. Eventually people found out she had been lying about her claims and now ProJared is able to be back in the spotlight without having to worry about his character being questioned anymore.
@Jaime Cruz if you don't mind me asking though what has he done that made him not innocent of course he did some dumb things but not something irredeemable
I like Celes a lot, but to me she just a safe choice. She's brave, fiery and badass, with a soft side. Terra in contrast is a huge bag of flaws, which is something very unique for a main character (in a serious setting). She is carried through half of the story until she finds a great answer to Kefka's nihilism, telling him that life is worth living because of the little joys in it, that is how life is, it doesn't need a grand reason or a point, and that is such a real answer. Besides, Terra becomes the foster mom of an entire village and from that point she goes from a reserved/afraid girl to a sweet, confident pacifist. Like Jared said, you choose your answer out of the main cast, Terra's arc touched me the most on a personal level, and that's why for me, she will always be best girl.
"So Jared, what's the best song from the FFVI soundtrack?" Jared: *"Yes"* But really, this was an excellent review. It's obvious this game is very special to you, yet you can still acknowledge its flaws. As someone who hasn't played any FF games _[pause for shocked gasps],_ watching your analysis of each game have really made me interested in the world they have created. The tone for this review was very fitting to the tones of this game, I noticed: Serious with moments of levity and humor, and not afraid to tackle the heavy stuff. You've come a long way, Jared. Not to get all mushy, but you really are appreciated. Thank you for your content, and just being a cool dude in general. Until the next video, see ya next time.
Also, the best song is Dancing Mad. Not just the game, but out of all Final Fantasy games. I would say that Corridors of Time from Chrono Trigger is a better song for me personally, but that is largely due to it's personal significance
I always rewatch this video from time to time cause it's my favorite video of his. Not only because it's a very complex and emotional analysis of the game, but also to see how much he has overcome and changed over the years.
@@GooseGumlizzard its in the video at the end of the video. when he talks about the end. i didn't even know that was the end but knew because of how it looked

This is a pristine example of how Jared was wrong about the GBA transition being worse than the SNES. I can't stand that kind of goofy crap when the GBA and original Japanese version were far more subtle.
@@Morgil27 I think he's just more used to the SNES translation that the GBA script still feels foreign to him. I feel both scripts including the original Japanese script should all be compared to see which version handled each line better.
@@Morgil27 idk mang, that one line aside (which is whatever, Locke is supposed to be flustered and spilling his spaghetti a bit) one look at 22:14 compared to 39:27, and it really comes across like the GBA version is literally spelling everything out, just in case the dumb babies in the audience are feeling lost.
just barely missing the 3 year anniversary of this video to come back and say, wow I remember watching this as if it had just come out yesterday, time flies man
I dont really agree with the idea that FF6 is about loss. Its basically about some crazy clawni going nuts basically. SPOILER I think FF7 did that part better. A person dies "Whether you liked that person or not doesnt matter" point is everyone has a different reaction to it. And that part feels very real and believable. But i in general think FF6 is the bottom FF game in my view. But everyone has a different opinion which is fine though!
@@kejiri3593 The game is about loss because it's a recurring theme. It's kind of hard to argue against that. All except a couple of characters are struggling with some form of it, not only the loss of a loved one through death but of control over one's body/destiny, familial separation (spoilers: Relm is Shadow's daughter, and Gau's father is, if I remember right, the crazy old man), the loss of one's sanity or moral compass, and one's own will to live. Failure, such as the failure to prevent Kefka from destroying the world, is another form of loss, as is feelings of loss and survival guilt after a genocidal event. A number of sci-fi books and movies have explored the unique pain and despair of surviving a nuclear holocaust or an analog to one, and I see FFVI as following in the footsteps of such works, though it's certainly no Quiet Earth or Road Warrior.
I really wanted to make it to the premiere of this, but got so into my Animal Crossing session that it slipped my mind. Man I hate when that happens. Absolutely incredible review though, mega props, well done!
I know you'll probably never see this but, man, everywhere I see you in a comment section you're just an absolute ray of sunshine. Keep it up, we all need that positivity.
I just found this review and it's my introduction to your channel. I loved it. You had me tearing up several times, as I have the same connection to the game as you do. Thank you for doing it justice. I'll be checking out the rest of your channel. You're doing fantastic work.
Y'know, after the FF7 Remake is fully released, I'd rather see FF6 get some kind of refurbishing as opposed to 8, 9 or 10; it seems like an absolute waste to not have this story be accessible to younger players as fully realized as it deserves.
My final rating for this game is the ORIGINAL Star Wars Trilogy/10 It has a few silly moments here and there, but the characters are undeniably memorable, the villain iconic, there are several breathtaking moments scattered throughout it, and the scope of it all is something to behold.
Thanks Jared for opening up. I've been there too, the end of my rope, wanting to end it. It sucks. I love your videos and appreciate your honesty. Keep doing what you're doing! You are an awesome person!
A year ago, this particularly was one of the videos I was scared I'd never see. I'm so glad that it's here and, more importantly, that you're here. Thank you Jared.
@@dnmstarsi I do too. I never meant to lead this man to feel that way. All the joy he brought me, and I turned my damn back and blindly joined the mob. I will never forgive myself for it.
This is the best and most emotional review I’ve seen from you, Jerd. I not only watched the TH-cam Premiere but also the Twitch Premiere. I wept with you and chat after the Twitch Premiere was over. I was also moved to tears throughout your playthrough of this game and your review of it. Especially when you said “I’ve been there.” Although I never had self harm/suicidal thoughts or tendencies, it reflected on my own personal struggles with the feelings of disappointment, vengeance, hatred, anger, bitterness, resentment, holding grudges, betrayal, sorrow, pain, grief, guilt, regret, despair, pessimism, fear, anxiety, sadness, loss, heartbreak, and wanting to live in isolation/exist but not live, because of on how society is designed/based on; people bringing others down. I’m thankful for the therapy I had from childhood to my teens, I still carry the advice it has given me through out my life. Final Fantasy VI is a classic that still stands the test of time.
Jared, you have become in icon to the world. You've been through hell and back many times and you came out stronger each time. This video in my opinion is more than just the next iteration in your Final Fantasy reviews. I'll never forget your face after the debut. This is the video you are known for now. Be proud of it just like everyone here is. Thank you for all you do man.
Tyler Hale Next thing you know he has The Corona Virus. I actually ask what he might suffer tremendously from next. This guy really needs a warm hug. I feel bad for him.
You will probably never read this but thank you Jared. I could feel the emotions behind every word you said and a lot of memory came back in my head from my childhood playing FF6. It made me admire it more than i ever did. The wait was well worth it. Thank you for being you. I needed this more than i thought i would.
Dunno, why... I've just become obsessed with the opera scene lately, and when you brought up Celes and Locke's themes joining during the credits I actually broke down and started crying... it's so good.
Final Fantasy VI is my favorite too. It came out when I was 12 years, and my brother and I purchased it with shared money we had earned from mowing lawns in our neighborhood. When I think of FFVI I often remember the town I grew up in, friends from my youth, and my brother who has since passed away. This game has gotten me through tough times, as well as the good times. I can't say for sure if I would love it as much if I didn't grow up with it, but every gamer from every generation probably has a game that is special to them in a similar way. Whether the game is a masterpiece or not, it can be the circumstances under which the player enjoyed the game that make it so memorable.
I’m so deeply sorry about the loss of your brother. I cannot imagine how that felt/continues to feel. May you and those you love be happy, blessed, healthy and prosperous during these crazy times. 🙂
Dude I totally feel you on this as my older brother bought it and brought it home and I'd watch him play for hours before he'd stop and. Would get a chance to play. This game just makes me feel like those times are still alive somehow and when I die or vice versa I want whoever is alive to play the game again at least one last time. I' try to play through the game every couple years even though I have nearly everything memorized , it just hits that hard for me still
1994: Locke is a great person because he dedicated his life to saving others after he couldn't save the one he loved. 2020: *SIIIIIIMP* Edit: I didn't think I had to say this, but I don't actually think Locke is a simp. I'm just making fun of the term.
@@Noobirus Just what on Earth is with this whole weird modern insults? Why the need for them? What's wrong with already existing ones like fool? In the case of a man who is irrationally crazy in worshipping a woman who does not care for him back, I'd simply call him a fool or obsessed loser or , in kindest words, a misguided soul.
Here's my 5 cents. As he said about "There is ok to have scenes that only develop characters" - that for me is why i play JRPGs being it ff6, persona, trails or tales of games.
The game holds a cathartic emotion within my youth. It's so expansive... I had a paper back SNES strategy guide that had multiple games in it growing up that had this game. It was also this, and "2" that I used to have when I was really young before the carts disappeared...
You know, a lot of RPGs, even and especially tabletop, could use the mantra: "It's okay to have scenes that just develop the characters." Some moments I love the most out of D&D sessions or out-of-session character interactions are ones where the PCs are just having a heart-to-heart, talking about how they're doing at the moment or doing something to show that. For example, a party member asks the usually-pacifistic one "I saw you going on the offensive in that last scrap, why don't you do that more?" The pacifist responds, "They were skeletons, so I figured they can't feel pain." "Why's that important?" The conversations go on and the characters show more about themselves through that process. This makes the players, including the ones playing the characters involved, more invested in the party's members. Makes them more than numbers on a sheet.
Exactly! It's true for so many things. Fx. a lot of anime fans get butthurt over this kind of stuff. A lot of times, if a show that usualæly has a lot of action has a few episodes where the characters are basically just chilling out, they start getting mad and calling it filler, when really, it's a lot of character interactions that lets us get to know them better.
I dm for a party of 3, and we haven’t rolled initiative in eight sessions. And I have never gotten as many complements about my games before, even though (and possibly because)one of my players actually cried last session.
Indeed. Both the High Rollers and the Unexpectables have had times when they've gone multiple sessions in a row without any dice rolls at all, and they're often considered to be some of their best episodes.
This is why skits in the Tales series are one of the best innovations in JRPGs. Just random snippets of the party having idle chatter. Occasionally there'll be foreshadowing to future revelations, but mostly it's just to establish bonds between the party.
When I completed this game when I was in the 6th grade it blew me away with how good it was. It was such an emotionally exhausting experience. I felt so lonely that no one could share in how I felt about it. I feel a little less lonely now.
I was right there with you friend. I had notebooks and strategy guides and hand-drawn maps...this game made me feel like a true adventurer. And nobody I knew played it.
Man, I don't know how hard I feel that. Being a fan of old games with a ton of other people all used to playing games at 2015 at the oldest, I can barely say a thing about a game I loved playing without explaining the whole game; I can barely explain how many games I still have bottled up in me just to love talking about.
I love that Jared literally said every song in the game is the best song. It's those little things that keep me coming back to this channel. Great review of a GREAT game, Jared. Well done
Dude that "I've been there" line. I've never felt the urge to give someone a hug as strong as when I heard that! Love you man, keep bein' you and doin' what you do best!
"I highly recommend you play the Super Nintendo version" ah, i see you are a man of culture as well. All joking aside this was a great video, I legit shed tears a couple times.
Eh. I haven't watched the video yet, but IMO that's a bad recommendation when the GBA version keeps the SNES' charm while also fixing legitimate translation / programming mistakes.
That first minute of the video is literally me. This game changed me as a person, led me into all the games I have played since it's release, and I even voiced Edgar in a friends youtube series of it. Best game ever created. Deserved the remake 7 got.
The music is some of the best music I’ve ever heard in a video game, especially with how each of the characters’ themes can encompass so many emotions and tones, as Jared highlighted; none of their themes is suited for just one tone, be it adventurous, sad, uplifting, etc, they can be all of them all thanks to a change of tempo and instruments.
“I’ve been there…” That one phrase made this video for me, knowing that after everything, even years after the comeback, the experience he went through feel like he was trapped in his own World of Ruin. Happy to see him thrive and to still be subbed, even through hell and back. ❤
Just started, and yeah. Don’t be scared Jared. Your honor returned. I’m excited to see what’s gonna happen here! Just started watching this! Here we go!
29:15 i can hear jareds voice quiver here, and i dont blame him. i know the feeling here. and i know what its like to be broken, in pain, alone, and even wanting to end it all. jared, youre not alone.
This video made me think a lot about how games have evolved over time, and how old some of these games are. I'm named after this game. It made me think about my dad too, who came up with that idea and is the one who got me into games. He's playing a game with his friends as I type this. It's crazy to think how much time has passed. I started watching Jared when I was around the ages of 10-12, and now I'm a young adult. It's so melancholic to think about, nostalgic even.
When I played this game, I never related to the main character’s responses to loss. The *main* characters. I realized how truly awful, and evil I was when I noticed that I shared the same views as Kefka. That nothing mattered, and sharing relationships with people was worthless. And I felt that way because I lost the people that I cared about before, and since then, I was just like him. The later section of the game was accompanied with me changing and becoming a better person. And then, it ended, just like my nihilism. FF6 was one of the very few games that changed me as a person. And it owns a very, very special place in my heart.
Understanding the entropic nature of the universe doesn't mean you're evil. What you decide to do at that point determines whether or not you're good. Kefka decided to speed up the destruction because he couldn't handle what he'd experienced. I've been there. I've also realized that even though nothing matters because everything that ever existed will be destroyed in the inevitable heat death of the universe, everything matters if we make it matter.
Terra is a fantastic character because she gives the best possible answer to that type of conundrum. It doesn't matter if everything we do is eventually worthless, this is what we we were given, and we had to enjoy life for what it is, enjoy those little moments and carry on with your days.
I just saw this recommended on my TH-cam and I quickly clicked it away as I saw FF6 is related to it. I watched it whole and OMG! This video made me subscribe to this person. FF6 is really a best game if you look at the plot really carefully. But for me, this game has all my personality on it which is why I loved the game so much.
I do like them. I love in fact FFVI so much that it is my second favorite FF game. Buuuut I personally hold FFVIII the highest. Dunno, but as an introvert, having an introvert character with lots of thoughts did appeal to me immensely. Loved the world as much as the characters, story and gameplay.
Fantastic review, Jared. I played FFVI for the first time this year, and I'm very glad I did. Thanks for putting the time into these Final Fantasy videos. I've only played a few of them, but watching your videos is like experiencing fun encyclopedia deep dives into each game.
The opera scene breakdown becomes so much more emotional when you realize the song is reprised when Celes jumps from the cliff believing everyone she has come to know and love is dead. This makes her emotional outpour of seeing the dove with Locke's bandana more endearing.
When times are tough, we see a side of ourselves that we didn’t know we had. That is what it means to grow though, you can let it bring you down or you can rise above it. You have done that by going through what you did. I am glad you are doing better and I’m proud to say that I stuck through it and got to see you rise again and become more like your old self again.
"Which is the best song in the game." Really, it sums up this game so damn well. That ending Celes/Locke medley gets me every time. This is one soundtrack that I've listened to as many times as I've played the game. It's an amazing feat for a 16-bit game. What an amazing game. I'm fully on your side in regards to the admiration to this game. Thanks!
idk, i like The Decisive Battle, The Fierce Battle and of course Dancing Mad but i always hated the Battle Theme for this game, it doesn'd sound like a battle, sounds like on of your party members got an enemy stuck in it's face and it's rolling in the ground yelling at the other party members to take him off.
The Celes/Locke medley at the end, yes! I feel you. Also, the way Relm's theme goes into Shadow's when the strings kick in, just kills me. That whole ending theme is an unmatched masterpiece in video game music, or just music in general.
Thank you for sharing this with us Jared. I bet it was a bit tough to do. Seeing how Sincere you were in the beginning and how much it means to you it makes this review very special and I feel privileged to have watched it. This intro is amazing. You conveyed so well just how important this one game for us is. I already commented once but I just needed to mention it after re-watching. Wish you all the best.
The way you talk about this game is so passionate, Jared. It’s heartwarming too see you light up and talk about how much you live and appreciate this game but also heart wrenching to hear you relate to it’s somber themes. This is a fantastic video and I enjoyed listening to you for every second.

Thank you for uploading videos Jared, appreciated.
@@MALEMization I second this suggestion, please and thanks.

To. This. Day.

"It is ok to have scenes that don't further the plot, as it develops character."
This is a good lesson for life really. It's perfectly ok to take time away from your "main story", your career, your relationships etc., and focus on building who you are as a person. Prioritise becoming the best version of you, to improve both yourself and your life-plot.
Also I can't believe Jared never talked about the best song in the game smh...
I HATE THAT!!!!! Damn that Jared, never mentioning the best song at all... I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!!! >:(
for real, if you make a FF6 video, it is required to talk about The best song.
thanks i kinda needed that
While plot is important, it is OK to deviate from it from time to time provided that it keeps the reader/viewer/player engaged. The technique is not without risk, however. When doing a character development detour, it is VITAL to make sure the reader/viewer/player gives a rat's ass about the character, otherwise it just wastes his/her time. Don't bore your audience, boys and girls.
How can you call yourself a FF6 fan without talking about ThE bEsT sOnG EVURRRR?!?!?!
You mean people are told what to think and they listen.

I still feel that. It pains me to say it, but the life I'm living isn't one I want to be living. I strive to be better, but I can't seem to make it happen. I think about this moment a lot because at least it isn't just me.
Not once ever did i consider during the Opera scene that Celes was hinting towards how she felt about Locke. Thank you for that! Well done!
and not once ever did i consider the opera scene to be pointless - what is wrong with those people?
Ikr? I thought she's just singing right from the script, except if you fuck it up
tentales10
I remember I used to hate the Opera scene. “Ugh,” I thought, “this is nice, but ultimately unimportant. Why does everyone say this is one of the best part of the games?”
Then I realized. Maria misses the one she loves, climbs to the peak, and throws the flowers off the roof.
One year later, Celes misses the ones she loves, climbs to the peak, and throws herself off the mountain.
As soon as I drew the parallels, I blanched, and I’ve loved the opera ever since.
I still get tears in my eyes when I hear the opera theme, it had a huge impact on me as a kid.

He's one of the more difficult party members to find in the second half, though, so it kind of balances out in the end.

I get where you’re coming from, but characters that get less development in the story, it feels like something WAS there. Strago for instance felt like something is missing from his story, probably because he was put in later in the WoB section.

Trying my best to avoid the easiest joke
@Kuma he said he's innocent now
What have he done
@@Casperwinde his ex-gf tried to ruin his name with false accusations of something that i don't remember exactly. Everyone sided with her while he claimed he was innocent. Eventually people found out she had been lying about her claims and now ProJared is able to be back in the spotlight without having to worry about his character being questioned anymore.
@Jaime Cruz if you don't mind me asking though what has he done that made him not innocent of course he did some dumb things but not something irredeemable
That's why my final rating for Terra, is a best girl out of 10.
Woah there Sabin is way bustier.
*Celes
Best in the game? Absolutely. But in the entire series? I dunno, if you include off-series games, I must disagree.
Terra is basically the true Female Cloud. She’s best girl.
"So Jared, what's the best song from the FFVI soundtrack?"
Jared: *"Yes"*
But really, this was an excellent review.
Will you be covering the ff7 remake when it drops?
I always rewatch this video from time to time cause it's my favorite video of his. Not only because it's a very complex and emotional analysis of the game, but also to see how much he has overcome and changed over the years.
When ProJared said "I've been there" in relation to Celeste's suicide attempt, that hit me.
What variation of the game is her name Celeste?
The whole video does have that underlying tone now that you mention it

"I'm Jared Knabenbauer, and this is the best song in Final Fantasy VI."
"Picks up copy of FF6"
Me: "Is this loss?"
And then PJ says FF6's theme is loss. So there.
N o
I dont really agree with the idea that FF6 is about loss. Its basically about some crazy clawni going nuts basically. SPOILER I think FF7 did that part better. A person dies "Whether you liked that person or not doesnt matter" point is everyone has a different reaction to it. And that part feels very real and believable. But i in general think FF6 is the bottom FF game in my view. But everyone has a different opinion which is fine though!
I II II I_
@@kejiri3593 The game is about loss because it's a recurring theme.
It's surprising how this game still holds up.
I just finished it for the first time and I absolutely loved it, one of the best games I've played.

Y'know, after the FF7 Remake is fully released, I'd rather see FF6 get some kind of refurbishing as opposed to 8, 9 or 10; it seems like an absolute waste to not have this story be accessible to younger players as fully realized as it deserves.
I was just thinking they should remake it but have the team that remade Trials Of Mana do it, it doesn't have to look like the ff7 remake
I read something that Kitase wants to redo V. Which I think would be cool too. But VI is the best in the series.
They did remake it but it was bad.

It has a few silly moments here and there, but the characters are undeniably memorable, the villain iconic, there are several breathtaking moments scattered throughout it, and the scope of it all is something to behold.
Plus it introduces Biggs and Wedge to the Final Fantasy series. How bout that.
Franzise D How about the presence of an evil Empire and the Falcon, though those were in previous entries as well.

You will probably never read this but thank you Jared. I could feel the emotions behind every word you said and a lot of memory came back in my head from my childhood playing FF6. It made me admire it more than i ever did. The wait was well worth it. Thank you for being you. I needed this more than i thought i would.
I love that the Opera Scene heavily foreshadows Celes’ jump from the cliff.
I' try to play through the game every couple years even though I have nearly everything memorized , it just hits that hard for me still
Thank u for sharing. May your brother rest in peace 🙏🏻❤️

I think Locke is a complete opposite of a simp. I mean he actually had a woman who loved him, and he... y'know - acts like a real man.
This is why I honestly consider P5 to be a step back. The lack of interparty interactivity makes the party feel less interwined.
For example, a party member asks the usually-pacifistic one "I saw you going on the offensive in that last scrap, why don't you do that more?"
The pacifist responds, "They were skeletons, so I figured they can't feel pain."
"Why's that important?"
The conversations go on and the characters show more about themselves through that process.
Honestly why I started watching critical roll.

Projared is the guy all week long. Don't listen to the hype, they tried to metoo him, but it was just a made up hit job.
Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy IX are masterpieces! In my opinion the best games Squaresoft ever made!
Can't agree more, those 2 hold a place in my heart.
"Which is the best song in the game."
Really, it sums up this game so damn well.
I still sob to this day when Forever Rachel plays, or get emotional during Coin Toss and or the highs and lows of Celes' Theme.
