    This is why comics are fascinating. They can combine the language of nearly every artistic medium.

    Not only did I learn about comic book layouts, I learned about movie direction as well! Awesome to see how you interpret the scene. Really great video!

    Fascinating ... it is always wonderful to see how pages / panels are built up, the flow, the control of the timing etc. Perhaps a book on techniques at some point ?? (Scott McCloud / Will Eisner etc)

    Sometimes I think Spielberg works with his DPs as if they are penciler and inker - the cast shadows of those grates behind Grant on the shot where you identified him lined up with the raptor?!? Genius shot design.

    Yes totally agree you about the blocking on this specific scene, i would also add how he uses round shapes to make the scene more warm.
    How he does it with the help of circular shapes, the table, the lamp, the circle of people and the egg itself.
    The last one being the more important because it makes a reptile seem cute. He also refrains from showing the claw of the little critter as it would disrupt the warm feeeling we get as if watching a new born baby.

    The intro, and "Hatching Baby Raptor" Playing in the background gave me goosebumps

    Fascinating, as always! I'd be curious to know how you approach your pages and panels regarding the balloons. Working with other artists I'm always struggling with that part but here you just place them so casually, and I'm envious, haha! Maybe it would make for a great video! Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge with us!

    • @ElsaCharretierChannel
      @ElsaCharretierChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know, I kind of wing it, and am by no means excellent at it. I sometimes compare my initial balloon placement with the final lettering and most of them they don't line up :)

    Great video! I love this series, and how you interpret film techniques for comics. Your trick in the last panel to use dialogue balloons to direct the reader through Malcolm’s turn at the end of the sequence reminded me of Barry Windsor-Smith.
    I can’t wait to see what other scenes/techniques you translate for the uniqueness of comics! Thanks again for everything!!

    I feel like if you asked the average comic artist to draw this page, from a script, you wouldn't have something as interesting, particularly that last tier of panels.
    Your channel has inspired me to keep an entire sketchbook where I can do break downs like this myself

    • @ElsaCharretierChannel
      @ElsaCharretierChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do go in really deep for these videos, and I might not have done it that way if I had just received a script for a comic, I'll be honest. The filmed sequence is very inspiring- something to build upon.

    Très bien fait et la mise en scène de la vidéo est de très haute qualité ! J'aimerais qu'on se penche en plus du découpage adapté du film de la retranscription du texte. Il doit être différent du film et occupe aussi une place dans l'espace de la vignette, cela est parfois problématique c'est ça que je trouve cela intéressant...
