Hey, the new dev build of Windows added support for AVX2 and a bunch of other things. I wonder if games run better now? No need for a whole video, but if you could test it and let us know, we'd be grateful
I'll try to grab some temperatures while gaming. The nice thing is that you're not really holding the Surface Pro in your hands so if you're using the KB attachment, there's no heat being dispersed there. I will say that I never hear the fan running at all, it's as silent as can be.
Nice choice! I haven't tested that one yet so thank you for sharing. This video is just a very small representation of what will work well. I think many are underestimating the capabilities here, which is a shame!
I also thought that my Surface Laptop 7 will suck really badly in gaming, and I was pleasantly surprised when I tried to run Subnautica, Grounded, Scrap Mechanic, Prey, System Shock, etc.
Yeah, of course this isn't a gaming machine. I bought it because of other things, but it is capable of dusting off my steam library from when I used to play more just fine. I really like it so far.
I have a laptop with the Snapdragon X Elite chip as well and I can boot into the red dead redemption 2 main menu but when I want to go into the game, there is just an infinite loading screen. Do you perhaps know how to fix this ?
@@retrotechdad it’s when I’m in the in game menu where you get the choice to either play single- or multiplayer. When I try to go into single player there is just the infinite loading screen and for multiplayer it loads for a while and then says something like: can’t connect to rockstar services and it sends me back to the main menu.
What is the "60FPS" in the lower-left supposed to represent? And why do you upload in 1080p30? 2160p would have helped combat TH-cam's recompression, 60fps would have given an idea of how these games actually run (instead of being capped at 30fps because of your capture/export settings)
Hi there! The 60FPS in the lower-left represents the target FPS for the game. I'm not sure why you're seeing 1080p30 but I capture and export at 1080p60, I will have to look into it. Sorry for that! 🙏
Could you run without automatic super resolution? It's unclear what resolution you are actually running if that setting is enabled. It was set in the graphics settings menu in windows
@@retrotechdad how sure are you if it's enabled? You might want to watch digital foundry discussion on this. May be useful to disable it just for testing.
@retrotechdad Thanks. I can't help that this is triggering me 😀. The Microsoft super resolution is a post processing filter (not done by gpu) to scale the internal game resolution to the desktop resolution and does not impact performance but adds latency. So sometimes when folks quote a resolution (desktop) for a given performance, it could be off with this tech active.
Not aware of any Android build (yet) for the SDX hardware, but it would be very interesting to check out if/when it happens. There is also WSA (Windows Subsystem for ARM) but it currently doesn't work with the Snapdragon X devices. The good news is that someone is working on a fix so we can at least sideload APKs.
But why would you do that? The whole point is having a real computer OS, unlike Android and iPadOS. There will probably be new android tablets with better Snadragon chips soon too.
Why though? That would be comparable to running Android x86 on top tier Intel and AMD laptop chips and you'd be getting similar effects (nothing worth the effort). There is no point of running Android on such a high-performance chip because nothing on it wouldn't even take advantage of it. Winlator and any other PC emulator for Android is also way behind Prism or even X64 on Linux. If anything, ChromeOS would be a much better choice because it can run Android and Debian stuff
80100 is strongest 1 in the line up right ? And becoz it's arm chip, i think they should make it run native or atleast smooth android app ! Or dual boost ... For now it cant do much ... AMD still much better choice. And there are alot of laptop and mini pc support eGPU now.
The strongest one is the 84-100, which I believe can only be found in the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge. It has higher frequencies across the board. I'd love to see native ARM games as I think the results would be really good. Unfortunately, for now the translation layer will be the best Windows on ARM users can get.
it's not heavily adopted yet. it's not qualcomm fault if third party app or games are waiting for consumers demand first for arm support. on a benchmark, x elite actually beat 8845hs,core 7 ultra, and base m3 both cpu and igpu.
@@Bizmops they only win m3 at multi cores becoz qualcom have more cores. At single and gpu they still far behind bro. I hate apple coz that company is super greedy, but they have verry good chipset and device quality.
i think genshin impact is not a good way to benchmark. bcs the genshin performance is not indicating the m1 capabilty but indicating parralels or crossover capability. should test with native arm games vs native arm games.
Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see tested! 🙏🙏
No More Heroes 1&2 and Maybe Kingdom Hearts 1,2, and 3.
maybe tarisland, i can not get it to work on my SP11 X Plus
DayZ!

Prey from 2017- works perfectly for me
Thank you for sharing!
I'd enjoy knowing temperatures, and fan noise. Really appreciate the info as is though, thank you.

given nine of these are ARM Native this is a great start I think. Really wish devs would buy in and start making games for ARM.
I agree! I’d love to see native ARM games 🙏
I put Prey from 2017 on the Surface and it looks amazing / works perfectly - I am still watching so perhaps you cover it. Thanks for your efforts.

Performance is not as bad as I would have thought but not great for the price though. Great tests!
I was pleasantly surprised as well especially because it has to run through the translation layer.
I also thought that my Surface Laptop 7 will suck really badly in gaming, and I was pleasantly surprised when I tried to run Subnautica, Grounded, Scrap Mechanic, Prey, System Shock, etc.

How's the battery life? How many hours running AAA games?
you'll get 35 - 45% better power efficiency. if. it's natively on arm. if it's not probably almost the same or even worse than x86.
Great video!! Which software did you use to monitor fps and performance?
Impressive, it will only get better once better drivers are out.

Where are you getting the infinite loading screen? Is it from the Rockstar launcher or is it going in-game?

Snapdragon X Elite 💪💪💪🔋😊
🔥🔥🔥
Haha this fanboy is everywhere, do they pay you?
Poor kiddo still living in the dream. 😂
its not ready for gaming, they need to open it to the community like steam did, in 10 years or so it should be good enough.
Congrats on 50k subs 🥹 Well deserved!
My D4 locks up sometimes, for a short period, have you seen this?
Nice 🙂.
My man 🤗🙏
Is it possible playing in touchscreen ? I found a way for Genshin but not for HSR and ZZZ

Diablo 4? Elder Scrolls online? Diablo 2? Anyone?
Diablo 4 is featured in the video. 🙏 I’ll make note of ESO and Diablo 2 for a potential future video.
Someone on the Surface subreddit said that ESO ran great on the Elite chip.
@@retrotechdad I'd suggest Diablo 2 Resurrected :)
Does Street fighter 6 work well at 60fps?

It was set in the graphics settings menu in windows
My desktop resolution was changed before launching any games so they're not utilizing ASR. They are running at the stated resolution in the video. 🙏

@SlateMonster-z4x Windows will tell you if it’s using ASR when you launch a game.

Can android be installed on these ? Since it's an ARM chip. Possibly better performance on a lighter Operating system, better support.

Does destiny 2 work good?
Thanks fr v
Anti cheat so no
WHERE OVERWATCH AND GENSHIN IMPACT TESTS?!
Baldurs gate 3?
It's so stupid that you need to add all games manually to just play with max performance.

I've run better specs on a 3500U 8GB DDR@2400Mhz ultra slim witcher 3...such meh
Yes you've played games natively
Thank you buying m3 mac
i am pretty sure that a mac air m1 runs pc genshin better than this
I'm planning on doing some comparisons to a M3 Mac Air.
