  • @macfranks2456
    @macfranks2456 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That door latch mod is a great idea. The door latch and striker is a chronic problem on these cars. I got one of the tight fit fiberglass rear bumpers. I got completely burned out on metal work on my car.
    I think Ford left that gap big because you can lean on the rear bumper and it will start to fold up. I think they were hoping to try and prevent more damage back there in a hit but in any rear bumper hit it happens anyway just about every time.
    I had to cut thin end plates and weld on to my rear valance on both ends to tighten up that gap to the quarter panel. You lucked out on your deck lid for it to fit that well. I had to slice into mine on both sides and the line to the fill panel at the base of the rear glass and re-make those lines to get them to gap properly.

  • @bobp5356
    @bobp5356 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Beautiful work. It’s looking really good. Those old bumpers had those big gaps because they were truly bumpers. They didn’t have the hydraulic shocks to absorb movement like today’s cars. Those old bumpers had to resist movement. So that’s why they had those big gaps so the bumpers wouldn’t hit the body panels on the car.

    The reason for the big gaps around the bumper is so that if the bumper is hit, it can move some distance before hitting the bodywork. So in a light hit, the bodywork is less likely to be damaged. Back in the old days, bumpers served the purpose that they were designed for. Not like with modern cars where the bumpers are just for show.

    For a future build , look into getting a 1972 Ford Ranchero. The big grill on it makes the meanest looking model. You can put a V-6 Supercharged motor in it or a Boss 302 with fam air induction with a 160,000 volt super coil . With a dual point distributor or go with a super hot modern ignition system. But they make a very good Drift car because the rear end is so very light!

    Man you made it a lot better. You are a customizer now. You dont have to chrome it you can just smooth it up with a little bit of filler and paint it. You could get rid of the seam or gap at the bottom like you were talking about at the end it would look real nice then. These cars fixed up bring a lot of money. Like 30 or 40 grand maybe fifty. You could do the body flares. That would be a lot of work though. Like you said you have to figure it out as you go so it is going to take some good amount of time. It just takes time that is all that is why the guy wanted $12,000 to do it. Body flairs are cool but damn thye take a lot of time. You just gotta know it will take longer to finish but it would be worth it if you dont get discouraged or dont have the money. You would have to work on other cars for money along the way.

    Dude, that is a sweet bumper mod. NPD should take a mold of that and start making this part!

    You put a square peg in a round hole with that latch. Outstanding job once again

    I was starting to get bored of the whole mustang project untill the last month, definately starting to take shape now, I used to look forward to the goonzsquad updates but it's now like watching the shopping channel on TV, "buy this sauce and youl get a FREE limited edition bottle opener!" Im looking forward to seeing the mustang completed more than the camaro
