Thanks so much for watching! Who knew the minivan had such an interesting history on how it came to be. What do you think about Ford’s concept minivan and Jeep 4WD minivan idea?

Minivans are certainly much more space-efficient than typical SUVs and offer a lot more practicality in daily use. The only thing SUVs can do that minivans can't do better is go off-road... which is where this Jeep minivan would've been a fascinating product for sure! As with most AMC concepts in general, I think they would've produced it if they could as AMC had a knack for finding niche markets that spawned a loyal customer base, AMC just constantly lacked the budget to produce them.
If AMC had hung on a little bit longer, they probably could've actually made a Jeep minivan though, as they had an alliance (heh) with Renault, and around that time Renault was building Europe's first minivan - the Renault Espace. Jeep could've probably asked Renault to send over some Espace bodies, which Jeep could then put on their own frame with existing 4WD parts, keeping the development budget fairly low. Sadly, they were bought out by Chrysler before that could happen, and Chrysler probably said no as it would steal sales from the Voyager/Caravan.

Wow, ok, this, I did not know… Renault building a minivan over in Europe. AMC had a lack of funds for man projects yes, it a real shame they couldn’t figure something out to get a Jeep minivan in the works. Back then in the 80’s to early 2000’s I think would’ve been the perfect time to produce such a product. Now a days… I’m not to sure. Thanks for sharing that great info! That’s is AWESOME!

I wish Ford & Jeep would have made the 70's concepts- also the 60's Jeep concept. The 70's Jeep concept looks like the Chevy APV minivan of the 90's.

That first Jeep minivan concept looks really interesting. Would've been great to see something like that released by Jeep, but you still have minivans that came earlier to the market than the Voyager like the Prairie/Stanza Wagon (which had dual sliding doors and no B pillar+8 seats versions) and the Chariot/Space wagon, and both of them offered 4wd versions in the mid 80s already. In Fact the Mitsubishi won the Pharaohs rally on its category.

That’s pretty cool! You can go way back to see who really created this first minivan, it’s quite the debate! Nonetheless, a jeep mivivan sure would be interesting. Glad you liked it! It’s pretty cool seeing all the different ideas and prototypes the company had before launching a possible production model. Too bad they didn’t make any! The forward control design van looks like the 1960s Version offered in Spain. Don't remember if it was the Toledo or Compeader.

Interesting video I did like the concept of a 4x4 small van but when and more so why did the concept Jeep Eagle 4 x4 get the spotlight?

That’s a good question. We may never get the answer. It would’ve been cool to come out with a running and driving jeep minivan 4wd prototype to show the public back in the day. That would’ve been cool. Thanks for watching and commenting! Subscribe for more Jeep history everyday Wednesday @ 7pm and follow my 86 Wagoneer project on the channel!

I agree on the design, not being the most attractive. However it would’ve fit right in back it’s day. It was a good start for what was to come! Thanks for watching and commenting! Subscribe for more history everyday Wednesday @ 7pm and follow my 86 Wagoneer project on the channel!
