    Another great episode! One of our best friends adopted a baby boy in Russia, of all places. It was one of the few countries that would allow a single man to adopt but he had to pretend to be straight, bring his mother with him to complete the process and bring “gifts” for the authorities.

      It feels so weird how sexuality is even a question when adopting a child. Every sane human is capable of raising a child, like thats not a factor to be considered

      @@CrisCheese_ its not. The reasons for why gay men particularly were/are banned from adoption are all really based on homophobic stereotypes.

    Ant, your adoption story warmed my heart! I am a 63 year old American man, and I am adopted. i too went through the foster parent thing.... and you hit home with me with your candid talk. I too had horrible foster parents, I ended up being sexually abused many times by them, it was physical and mental torture! But today, i am ok. I do not dwell on the past. Because, there is NOTHING I can do to change it! I was eventually adopted by a loving couple at age 13, and moved on! I am also a gay man, and like your "old gays" This was NEVER spoken about by me to my parents. Thank you for your honesty, and willingness to share with us your story! Much love and respect you you and Nick... and your "old gays"... on the podcast! PEACE!

    As a gay couple married 10 years ago in the United States, even 5-8 years ago, it was difficult to be placed with a newborn baby as a gay couple. Our 4 year journey to adopt a newborn was unsuccessful, and expensive. We have other gay friends that have had success more recently, and I have enjoyed watching another TH-cam couple adopt twice. I’ll enjoy watching your adoption journey from afar, if you choose to share it. Us “older gays” who wanted a child but couldn’t are reassured that life is better when you young gays succeed in life. Thanks for this content!

    • @sweetielove11
      @sweetielove11 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Everyone can have kids at their own pace and when it’s right for them. Some people can have them at 22 and some wait until they’re 40. It doesn’t matter, let them do it when it’s their own time.

    • @evening_streets
      @evening_streets 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@evening_streets That’s not what’s she’s doing at all, she said “you’re at the right age to start a family”, which is inaccurate as there is no right age. Everyone is individual in terms of when to have kids, and it comes off as pressuring when you tell someone that they should start talking about it.

    As a parent, I’d say 30-35 is a solid age for having kids! You’ve spent your 20’s travelling & enjoying life as the two of you, your career, your freedom! But at 30ish, you are still young, have energy to chase around a toddler & cope with less sleep 😅 And, by the time your kids turn 18, you’ll only be in your late 40’s/early 50’s - (hopefully) still plenty of life to live after your kids become independent!
    You’ll be great Dads if that’s what you choose 😊

    Its a great podcast and great idea to do an intergenerational perspective on being gay. From what the both older guys say, it seems they came out in their twenties or early thirties. They had no experience of the wider gay community when they were in their teens. I came out in the 80s and lived with my boyfriend when I was 17, he was 17 too and many of my peers in the same situation were of the same age. Quite a few gay men had children, either through previous marriage, turkey baster method with lesbians or loco parentis arrangements.

    In the UK going through surrogacy in the US is now given a path thanks to a gay couple that did this a fought the system in the UK. The entire process went public and was in the UK news media. They gay couple eventually won their case for both parents to become fathers and the child with duel citizenship. Always use a lawyer for the many legal hoops you’ll need for protections and rights.

    Is it wise to have kids knowing they could be bullied because their parents frequently post pornography?!

      There’s none of that, and many people have accounts from that website, no one cares. Your homophobia is showing.

    Too early. You two behave and act like kids at the moment, first you have to mature up.

    I think gay life has gone too far for me it feel like i cant do anything as a gay man and all other gay men always get what they want i cant even find a god damn proper relationship I feel like i would live in the 1960s 70s when you just had to pretend and hide for who you are i dont say this to be mean i just say this because I wanna be honest my gay life is terrible thats my truth 🏳️‍🌈

    As a parent, I do think around age 30 is a solid age for kids. You’ve got your 20’s to travel & enjoy your freedom. I’m so glad I did that. Then in your 30’s, you’ve still got plenty of energy to chase around after kids & cope with less sleep 😅 and you are still fairly young as your kids get older. I’ll be 50 when youngest turns 18, which is still plenty of time to live life at the other side of parenting too!
