- Today we take the boys on the biggest LPH(Landing Platform Helicopter) in Korea, ROKS Marado. We were told it’s a very rare opportunity to be able to film on the ship, let alone eat their delicious cafeteria meal! Starting from LA Galbi, Korean army stew, japchae, to hallabong for dessert, it was a genuine feast! Huge thanks to everyone on ROKS Marado for having us! It was a very special experience for all of us.

Just imagine. You're just an average high school student and suddenly these weird guys come to your school and asks if you want some sketchy food in front of a camera. A few years later you stand on the bridge of an operational Korean flagship on the other side of the world.

No for real. I was like “she’s so cool” and assumed she was some low down person who has a little more authority than the average marine, and who could speak English. I thought: “surely the higher ups have more important things to do than appear on a KE YT video”, but when she said she was 4th I was gobsmacked, 1) because someone so high up was personally showing them around, and 2) because she’s a woman in that position in a highly male dominated occupation (and a pretty sexist country all things considered). I wanna know how many marines give her shit/don’t respect her as they should because she’s a woman. I can imagine a good handful of male marines hating the idea of her having authority over them.

My mom snuck into the newly forming South Korean army at 15 years old. She became a nurse and retired as captain. I'm so proud of her. My mom's an OG. ❤

I have been utterly impressed by Natty this whole series. Not only he absolutely aced the entire training phase, the way he just blurts out the Korean phrases with correct translations is insane. He's really studied the culture hard. Props to Natty

It's no joke getting the permission to get on board and film on a military carrier - of a foreign country, no less. Mad respect to Korean Englishman and crew, the trust you have built is real and hope you will keep it always!
Not to mention the positive press for the military. This will likely help include more Korean youth to go ROK for their compulsory service rather than KTUSA.
@@codename495 Wait, I thought KTUSA was a volunteer program run jointly by ROK and the US military? I remember learning about the program in the early 80s (and that it was started in 1950, and that's all I remember some 40 something years later lol) and it always fascinated me. If it's compulsory along with ROK etc. but one can choose KTUSA, that's pretty cool for a military organization to allow to be honest.
@@codename495 Eh, I'd say that KATUSA is not a big competitior for the Korean Army (or other branches) since their openings are quite limited. The dwindling birth rate is the real problem, and that's not something that the military can solve.
Visitors and filming like this isnt unusual most militaries like the good PR it brings but as a foreign it is out of the ordinary...
BTW...Very few countries actually have Aircraft carriers the Mardado is a helicopter carrier/amphibious assault ship at the moment but it might be getting F-35Bs in the future to turn it into a true carrier
@@codename495 KATUSA already has only set amount of very limited numbers so that's not a problem. Most of the guys don't even really think about going there tbh.
Josh went really ham on that Navy SEAL test, you could hear his voice going in the video lol kudos to the entire team for making this unique cultural experience possible for these young men.

@@thatgirl9532 The best way to explain it is that he presents as a self motivated person. He's not there because he's making content. He's just lucky enough to get caught up in the content being made that happened to include him. And I don't mean this as an insult to anyone else involved in these videos. There are so many types of people out there it's silly to compare them really. He just happens to not be as outwardly facing as some of the other guys. He's there and he's seriously involved, he's just not the type of person to play to the camera or hype other people up. He's learning and experiencing the same as everyone else, he just doesn't feel the need to project it. I think that's the best part of this entire journey Josh and crew are letting us experience. How all of the different "kids" are different people, yet going through the same things.

for example I tend to become quite talkative when in class, but its not a "look at me!" thing, its necessary to gain knowledge (to ask questions, to participate in discussions, many time i would like to learn from others in class to, sometime its about where they from etc.)
but after class i dont keep in touch with most of the people I talked to
so i think its just different people with different personalities, Jayden must be the very observant type imo

I would like to see a video where you explain the logistics and behind the scenes of how you guys managed to put this series together. Did you meet in person with the British Foreign Office to help facilitate this trip? Were you guys debriefed by the UK gov't upon your return? What type of clearance was needed? Were you told what you could film beforehand etc? We need a whole video with just the back office work that it took to make this, like did each of the boys require a criminal background check? Any vaccines etc.

The amount of documentation and clearance the KE team had to do and have in order to shoot a video on the Marado must've been overwhelming! Just the diplomatic clearance between 2 countries alone would've been a massive undertaking to deal with, let alone military clearance to shoot on an actual active aircraft carrier. It's understandable why the editing team had to blur out some of the backgrounds and surroundings. Good job everyone and thank you for your hard work!!
I was thinking the same thing. It's a great documentary style in terms of "the front of house", but I'd love to see a side documentary on how on earth they managed to fix all this up? Some busy beavers working in the background. I get the feeling that the channel does so much good in terms of Korean/British relations (Brits learn about Korea, and esp. Korean food, and Koreans learn about Brits) that the higher-ups relax the rules to let it happen? Either way, amazing. Would love to see them bring some Koreans over to the UK some time?
I've been on public or school tours of naval vessels and military bases, so it's probably not that big a deal to let someone on for filming. But they will be followed around and there will absolutely be no wandering outside of the allowed areas. Most of a ship like this isn't super secret - just normal maritime operations, crew areas, food service, etc.

함상생활의 위안 중 한가지가 바로 식사죠. 30년 전에도 함상근무자의 식사의 질은 꽤 좋은편이었어요. 정박 중 화재진압 지원 나갔을때 육국 밥 먹어보고나서 육군 식사의 부실함이 확 체감됐었죠.

Dave's energy is so different in this series. Very underrated member. Unsure if it's the camaraderie aspect of this series or because I expected him to struggle (no offense), but I can feel how encouraging his enthusiasm was for the boys.
Since he's not their headmaster anymore he doesn't have to be the authority figure aka responsible adult. So it's easier for him to laugh, joke and have fun just like them.

작은 배들은 지금도 열악한 환경에서 근무합니다. 또한 해군은 "재대"라는 표현 보다는 "전역"이라는 표현을 사용합니다. 최소한 86년도 제가 있었을때는 그랬습니다.

I have loved this series, I have sent the videos to my father, He has worked with the Korean military and has a great amount of respect for them . he did 28 years in the US Navy, he retired after Desert Storm but was called for Bosnia/ Herzegovina.

My brother served on a US submarine. Supposedly the submarine fleet has the best food in the military, because it’s a morale booster for the sailors when they go days without seeing the sun, moon, stars, or breathe fresh air above water.
Any army (or Navy, Air Force or Marine) travels on its stomach. You have to feed the well.

직업군인,병사들 처우개선은 하기 싫고 초유명 유튜버 영상에서 좋게 보이는게 가장 싸게 먹히니 이렇게 하는거죠
국군 자체는 모두 징병이지만
육군과 다르게 해군과 공군, 해병대는 병사들이 자원입대를 받는 곳이라 그런거 같네요.
저도 해군 2007년 4월 9일 해군 530기로 자원입대 했거든요.

02:53 It’s actually super cozy. I loved those tight bed spaces - I fell asleep in less than 30 seconds when I slept there. I don’t know why, but I think it might be because it was the only personal space I experienced while serving in the marine corps.
33년전 상륙함 공간과 비슷하네요..그때는 저렇게 침대식이 아닌 쇠사슬로 층층마다 고정을 했었는데..위에 누가 누으면 엄덩이부분이 축 쳐져서 거의 내몸과 맞다을 정도였지요 ㅎㅎ

That Captain was awesome. I'm always impressed by Koreans who can speak English as it is (I know they have to learn basic English while in school, but you know) but she was super down to Earth and very personable. Not saying the drill instructor or other soldiers the guys interacted with weren't - but she was just way more "normal" for lack of a better word. Also, if she's #4 on the ship, as a Captain - wouldn't that mean there has to be admirals on the ship then? Or maybe it's different in the Korean Navy. Maybe they just have multiple Captains on board at all times (I know US/UK ships also do this of course).
She prob had a lot more papers than most... then again, most militaries look at papers to promote... no wartime promotions (well, other than the few people who were involved in the few DPRK attacks, including posthumous promotion for the many casualties)
also, the multiple captains is probably due to shift change...
She is not a captain, the subtitle made you misunderstand. it has some errors. though her job is not a Captain she is still #4 on the ship.

I think very BIG even the King invited them for a royal dinner when the South Korea President visited UK last year
They had famous celebrities as their guests years prior but when they started the High School series their popularity soared to the point where they were recognized by both South Korean gov and the King himself.

Josh and Ollie have received the Korea Image Stepping Stone Bridge Award (culture ambassador award). KE have been very well known in Korea for years and are recognized on the streets. Josh has appeared on Korean shows. They worked with the Korean military, British military etc to get permission to film on an Army base for the Twins series. (Required special permission since Major Charles was in the British military.) So they are familiar with the process.

Forget how fast they actually filmed this series that Josh's voice is absolutely gone in this episode since they probably went right after the rigorous training. I'm glad the boys get to sightsee and relax a bit, definitely much earned! 💕I can't wait to see what they will do next, but job well done! This series has been such a treat~

신기한게 일본, 한국인 만 깻잎 먹는 듯? 동남아 중동 남미 유럽 등 전부 고수 - 실란트로- 먹는데.. 한국인들 고수 싫어하듯 한국서 깻잎땜에 고생하는 외국인, 중국인들 많이 봄. 물론 난 고수를 넘 사랑해서 집에서 키워서 먹을 정도지만

일본도 깻잎은 잘 안 먹는 것 같던데..? 일본인 친구 왔을 때 깻잎튀김 먹고 이게 뭐냐고 별로다고 했었음… 걔네들은 우리나라의 깻잎처럼 시소라는 걸 먹는 것 같음

해상병 452기 전역자입니다. 20년 전에도 배에서는 음식이 정말 잘나왔어요. 아침에 갈비탕, 점심 닭도리탕, 저녁 탕수육 정식 이런 식으로..ㅋ 왠만한 부식은 육상 근무자들에게 그냥 줘버리고 했었죠. 암튼 대한민국 해군, 국군, 영국남자 팀 화이팅입니다!
