Exactly! I am in the same situation. Coming home from one trip and leaving on the next with a sled frozen solid got annoying real quick. This fixes the problem perfectly. Thanks for tuning in! Cheers, Jesse
I am getting a aluminum box for the front (trailer tongue) on my cargo trailer and was wondering if the heater like yours could be mounted in the box and run the heat duct into the cargo trailer? Enjoyed your video, thanks!!!
I have the same unit in my 27 foot trailer. I sleep in there at 28c nice and toasty. I wired mine to a battery and the battery has a charger plugged into an inverter that I power from the 7way on my truck. I run mine for 12/15 hours to a tank of fuel.
Yup! Same for us. We have ours wired into the 7 way as well so it charges from the truck. Running it 2 hours we didn't even notice a change in fuel levels! Thanks for tuning in! Cheers, Jesse
Way better idea than a propane heater; many people don’t realize that propane combustion generates moisture. One of these things would turn my hybrid into a damn ez-bake oven!
How do you dry the plywood floor after the snow melts on it? I'm thinkin the floor will eventually decay from all the water on it especially around the outer edges behind the wall.
Hey Alan. Great question. Mike and I have both been using them for 3 seasons straight and haven't had any issues. The water just drains like it would from snow and ice in the trailer. Cheers, Jesse
Hey Shane. We bought ours from Home depot. www.homedepot.ca/product/stz-fitting-black-iron-floor-flange-1-inch/1000145949 Then we added a threaded pipe about 2" long that threads in through the bottom of the flange. Thanks for tuning in! Cheers, Jesse
How many flanges did you require to complete the installation? Did you install flanges on both the inside and outside of the trailer on both the exhaust and air intake?
I guess that's possible but I think it's better to pull the air from outside of the trailer. Probably not required but that's how I did it. Might save you drilling another hole. Mike
This is a good idea !!! I got one of these heaters for Xmas I’m gonna be installing in my trailer this summer just looking for tips and tricks before tackling it . This idea def makes sense
@@sledaddicz According to the guys that use these in extreme cold, recycling the air inside the heated space saves about 50% in fuel when it's not heating cold air constantly. The most important thing of course, is proper venting of the exhaust.
The air intake you see in this video is strictly for the combustion chamber. It then gets exhausted right back outside. The air for the heater is drawn from the rear of the unit, and blown across the heat exchanger, and then out the heating ducts. This heater is setup correctly for the most efficiency. 👌
I haven't simply because I don't expect it to work well. It's not insulated and not sealed up perfectly around the roof vent, so doubt it would do much while moving. Mike
@@MLSPlatforms nice!! Check out our NB video for help planning your trip. I go through a day by day of out trip, where we stay, what trails we take etc. Cheers, Jesse
Hey Scott! When you first get the machine it takes a few cycles to get the fuel pump full. What I do is turn on the heater, let it pump until it stops, turn off the heater, restart and repeat.. until the heater actually kicks in. Cheers, Jesse
I wouldn't suggest it. They need a bit of power to start up and I don't think that battery would suffice. I also think those should be dedicated to the brakes just for safety concerns. Mike
Anyone info on well they hold up ?? I was trying to compare them to the two name brand companies that build them in Canada, but they are a lot pricier like a grand to $1500
We have only had it for this season and so we need to use it more to see how it holds up. Mike did a bunch of research and very few people had negative things to say.. Hope that helps! Cheers, Jesse
Not really. That's what the aluminum flashing is for and if done properly, keeps it clean. Get a piece of venting about a foot long and stick the intake into it about halfway down so it's positioned in the middle. Good to go 👍. Cheers, Mike
Hey David. I ran it every night on a four day sled trip and still had plenty of battery. That's probably 24hrs straight without an issue. The reality is most motels you can plug the trailer in outside but last season on a 4 day trip I didn't and just ran off the deep cycle. Cheers, Jesse
I had it running the other day in -35 overnight. When I went to the trailer the next morning at 7 am it was -30 outside and the trailer was at +10! As Mike said, they really work awesome. Just can't expect room temperature inside as the trailer isn't insulated. Cheers, Jesse
I did the same unit... best money spent for sure! Happy I did it as my sled sleeps in the trailer and I don't have a heated garage.

I was thinking the same thing. Mount in an exterior box on outside of V nose, may also add a small fuel tank above heater

I use a small electric in my hybrid and it’s a game changer
Yup. Makes life more simple when u start the day with a thawed out sled!
what kind of electric heater are you running?
Did you drill a 1” hole in the plywood and mounted the flange? I’m just worried about burning the plywood on my trailer.
Yes that's exactly what we did. Works great
What flange did you use to run the exhaust through the floor ? I've been looking but can't find one.

How come you didn't have the air intake sucking from the heated trailer instead of cold outside air?

the way the heaters exhaust & intake is built, I would not advise running it while in motion

Yup you definitely could! We decided not to but its always an option. Cheers, Jesse

@@MLSPlatforms that's awesome man!
Could the 12 volt it needs be wired to run off of a battery jump pack?
hmm doubt it. It needs continuous power. We recommend a deep cycle marine battery. Cheers, Jesse
What do you do to charge the battery
I have a Noco charger wired in. When I plug my trailer in using an extension cord, the plugs activate the charger. Very easy. Cheers, Mike
Hi, do you still recommend this heater after having used it for a while?
Yup! We have them in both our trailers and love them. Cheers, Jesse

Did the unit come with enough exhaust/vent pipe to properly set up through the floor and outside the trailer?
Yup! The only thing I added was the flanges. Cheers, Jesse
how long does it take to heat
I usually let it run for around 20 mins or so and then it is comfortable to work in there. Cheers, Jesse
How did you hang your bags and tank in the background
Mike mounted linq brackets to the wall of the trailer. Genius idea. Thanks for tuning in!

There any chance of stuff getting in the intake and exhaust out the bottom like that?

If you had to guess how many hours do you think you could run that heater off of a deep Cell battery before the battery runs out of juice?
Meaning of fully charged battery without a backup tender or power connected

Also wondering if the LCD display is permanently mounted to the unit or can it be moved?
It is not permanently mounted. It can be moved - its just on a clip. Cheers, Jesse
Seems easy but as soon as I have to cut a hole in something like a truck or trailer I hesitate.
I used to be like that as well....got over it and certainly worth having heat in there. Cheers, Mike

link to product?
And how do you use it?
Hi Mike. Here is a link to the unit I installed - www.amazon.ca/dp/B07XYYQ4GK/ref=cm_sw_r_fm_apa_i_3Y6W55RYP8GYVP1Z50H4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Hook it up to a 12v switch and then fuse it to a decent sized 12v deep cycle battery. Flip the switch, hit the on button on the screen and thats it.
@@sledaddicz Thanks, are there any fumes?
@@raggdoll1977 No because all the exhaust is vented outside through the bottom of the trailer.
